Advice from fellow Calgary/Alberta Brides!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

I am having a really hard time trying to find a bridal place here in Calgary that will have good affordable dresses... I used to be engaged years ago... and i went to Ethos Bridal and bought my dress, however they are all so expensive there. I don't want to spend 1000.00 on a dress.. infact below 4 or 500 would be ideal... Bridal centre i heard is also very expensive... Does anyone have any good suggestions? my wedding is 7.5 months away and i have not even started!! i am starting to get antsy about it, as everyone is telling me i should go immediately! ( however like most brides i am sure, i am trying to hold off as i have been losing weight, and will continue to do so.. ) as i don't want to have to get it completely re altered and changed, when i lose more weight..

*sigh* any help/advise would be appreciated!!

Thanks Ladies!

I am not from Calgary, nor did I buy my wedding dress from there, but I did go wedding dress shopping with my best friend from Calgary who did buy her wedding dress at a store there.  I can't remember the name of the place, but it was a smaller bridal store.  It had many dresses that were cheaper, but im not sure many there were manyb elow 400-500. Maybe you could find one at a smaller store, and perhaps maybe one on sale would be cheaper, or a sample gown.

I was going to order my dress online, after I found one in a store I loved just to save some money.  But I didnt think it would be worth the stress of wondering if it would even look the same, feel the same, if the beading would look as nice, ect.  I thought it was better to pay the money and have a dress I knew I loved and was constructed good then worry constantly until a dress from online came.

That is kind of how i was thinking too JayKay... I am getting a bit of push back from my Mom on this whole thing though, as we are going dress shopping next weekend.. and she wants to buy my dress, but then keeps making comments like " i thought you were ordering it online where it will be so much cheaper?!.. i am not spending 1000.00 on a dress .. etc.. " so to make her happy i am trying to keep the costs down as much as possible and even offered to pay the difference... I guess we will just see what happens!! hahaha she also wants me to get basically a white sundress.. *eye roll* i like the dresses.. but it is just not what i want for me hahah.. I guess we will see how it goes!!

My mom payed for my dress to and she also wanted me to get a little simple white sundress.  But after she saw me in bridal dresses and I explained to her that just because I was getting married on a beach in Jamaica didnt mean I didnt want my dream wedding dress.  She finally understood.  My dress ended up being just around $900, which I didn't think was to bad, compared to what it could have cost.

Hey, I am from Edmonton, but my girlfriend got married last August. She found a dress she loved in a wedding boutique that was $1300. She decided to sleep on it. The next day, we checked out the kijiji classifieds and no word of a lie, the exact dress was for sale from a previous bride for $500. She tried it on and bought it. I'm not sure how you feel about buying second hand, but if you really think about it, It was only worn once and most of the girls get them dry cleaned immediately after. Just a thought. I have looked on the kijiji ads before at wedding dresses, and there are always lots to choose from. I'm sure the same would be true of Calgary.

I went to sunshine bridal(i think thats the name). its kinda by sunridge mall(behind the husky), Its a hole in the wall but they had tons of cute dresses, and the one I fell in love with was only 290. I have also heard if you look for a bridesmaids dress in white you can get them way cheaper(like 200-400, the one I found was an actual bridal dress though).
