We wrote our own vows & also provided the minister with the wording for the sand ceremony. You can provide wording for any parts of the ceremony that you want. Our minister did an excellent job of incorporating his own wording into what we provided.
I know there are explanations of the differences btwn civil/religious/legal lurking around somewhere. I did a search & found some info in the threads below:
"...at ROR, all ceremonies are performed by a minister, but if you're having a civil ceremony, the minister will not mention God. If you're having a renewal, its performed by a minister too, but has no legal bearing."
