January 2012 Brides!

Recommended Posts

There are two options when it comes to changing your name. You can legally change your name, which is the whole name change process and your birth certificate will be changed too. Or there is option two where you assume your married name. You can start using your married name as soon as you are legally married, you do however have to wait until your marriage is registered (2 weeks), then send away for the marriage certificate (this takes 12 weeks), then you can change your name on all your id and such, just not your birth certificate. But you can legally start signing your married name as soon as it's legal.

We did the legal ceremoney at home before we left and have started to process of assuming my husbands name. I was not about to change my birth certificate as that is what I was born. I am sure you can go online to research name changes in your province. :)

Avens,

If you want to keep yoour maiden name (like a middle name) you should be able to assume your married name without hyphenating.

I too was not planning on changing my name, but when I returned, I changed my mind. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me (but it's definatley taking some getting used to! I am the butt of many jokes lately!

Professionally I will be Jamie Wilkie-Brain (So that I don't have any issues with ppl not knowing who I am) but legally I'm going Jamie Brain.

In general - are any of you changing your name?  Initially I wasn't, and hubby was cool.  Now that we're "officially" married, I get the feeling he really wants me to.  I like his last name, and it wasn't ever out of the question, moreso for convenience that I wouldn't change it, and I really like my name.  It reflects my heritage, and I just like it. :)

For professional purposes, I would like to stay Jaimee "Smith", but legally be Jaimee "Jones".  Has anyone ever thought of making their maiden name a middle name?

So my new name would be Jaimee Anne Smith Jones. For all intents and purposes I would be Jaimee Jones legally, but then Smith is still a part of my name.  (PS. I made up middle and last names)

What are your thoughts January ladies? What are you doing?

Kya,

Your wedding looks beautiful!

I like that your dress was long but short enough to show off your beautiful barefoot sandels!

I too am feeling the post wedding sadness. It feel like so long ago now! And we didn't have great weather or very much time to ourselves, so I'm dying for a Honeymoon! Just trying to convince DH that it is required!

Luckily, I still have our AHR to plan.... and I guess it will be babies after that to keep me busy!

Jamie

I have started to change my name on some things.  Like someone else said there is a different between legally changing your name and assuming your married name.  If you change your birth certificate you are legally changing your name, otherwise you are just assuming your married name.  I'm not sure how it works in other provinces, but in Alberta when you change your drivers license they take the old one away and give you a peice of paper for at least two weeks until your new one comes in the mail.  I changed my name at the banks, credit card companies, SIN number, and a bunch of other places with just my paper from Jamaica and a birth certificate.  They never once asked for a drivers license.  I changed that today and at the same time they automatically change your vehicle registration.  So far it has been fairly easy to change it.

Hi Jaimee,

So I haven't yet researched it either but need to. If both of your last names go well together, you could keep both maybe? As my maiden name and husband's last name both end in son, it would be really cheesy for me to hyphenate mine. I am having a hard time deciding if I want to change all of my documents. It is weird signing a new last name. Let me know what you decide to do and if you find out exactly how the process works here in Alberta.

Take Care!

You just click on the button that says 'start a new thread'.  There are tons of different places to start a new thread, so try to find one that is pertinent to what question/help/concern you are going to post about.  Hope that helps!

    • The cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer,  a rotisserie , a slow cooker , a pressure cooker, a grill. Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.
    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
