I hear you!! I have been looking around at places and it is so overwhelming!

Where are you based out of? My family is from PA/NYC and my Fiance's is from UT! Its hard to not consider everyone...

Where have you looked thus far? I have looked at Zoetry and Dreams...I suppose I am focused on Mexico but who the HECK knows! lol

Our Save the Dates also have to go out soon too- part of the reason we went with  a DW is low stress....hmmmm.....lol

talk soon, ! keep us posted where you choose!!

Picking you resort is by FAR the hardest part of planning and destination wedding!  Once that's done, its like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders!  I'm sure wherever you pick will be fabulous!  I don't think you can go too far wrong!

Having been to Jamaica 4 times already, I would highly recommend it! Its usually more expensive than DR, but I think its worth it!  There's such an interesting rasta culture which is really fun, plus all the bob marley stuff.  Also everyone is English speaking, so you don't have to worry about the spanish component or translating your wedding certificate. Plus Dunn's River Falls makes a great TTD location!  I can't say too much about DR...I was there once, and had an awful experience at a 5 star where we all got food poisoning and the resort security pulled a gun on a friend's head and asked for money.  That being said, it was only ONE experience, and I'm sure others have had positive experience. I would not base your decision on one person's individual experience.  Do some research and you will find the best option for you! Good luck!

Any advice, or suggestions on choosing a resort would be so great! I am getting pretty stressed out about it because the save the dates have to go out soon!

Hi Ladies,

I'm new to the site but have already found so much information! I'm getting married June 2012 in the Bahamas and can't wait to start talking to TA's this month.

I have lived in the DR, working at Club Med and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking. I had family who recently got married in the Breezes in Runaway Bay, Jamaica and they loved it. They had a very small wedding with only parents and siblings attend and did not upgrade for any extras but they all had a wonderful time and loved Dunn's River!

Looking forward to hearing all the good advice you have to give.

I think we are now looking at Mexico. Maybe NOW Jade or one of the Azul resorts. We are from Texas, so going to Mexico is cheap and easy because it is so close. At first my family was reluctant because of the violence in Mexico, but the Riviera Maya is safe so they finally agreed. I too thought this would be low stress, but it is totally worth it! :)

JenniferLeigh77- I love Zoetry too! We might honeymoon there. It is too chill for our rowdy wedding group though!

Deesanders33- Thanks! I am really considering using destinationsweddings.com too. Glad you are having a good experience! Jamaica looks great, we can't find a resort that really fits all our needs. For example- having several children under 4, and 2 17 year olds coming. Plus every other age range you can think of! hard to meet everyone's needs and ours!

BusyBee123- You are right about reviews of places, it seems everyone has had bad experiences everywhere, so which to listen too and which are flukes. Sounds like a crazy trip to DR you had!! Flying from Texas the DR is at least 7 hours, where Jamaica and Mexico are much much shorter. That is one big reason we decided not to go to DR. The Gran Bahia Prinicpe looks awesome! I hope your wedding is amazing there!

We originally started witht the NOW Jade, which we were in LOVE with. My family was saying NO to Riveria Maya because of people getting robbed at the airport and the taxi drivers getting shot. My FI and I weren't too worried about it because we honestly think it isn't as bad as everyone is saying but we would def have a different turn out so that is why we decided on Punta Cana. We just want our guests to come and celebrate this day with us and now they are so excited we switched it to Punta Cana.

Good luck with you hunt MrsO! I'm sure in the end you will find a resort that is perfect for you and your group! As stressful as it is at times, in the end it will all come together and you're wedding with be gorgeous! You just have to focus on that during the chaotic times....or at least that's what I keep telling myself! :)

Have you looked into the Riu hotels at all??? there are three different ones... My fiance and I got engaged at the Riu Caribe so there was no question of where to go for our wedding... But All the Rius in Mexico are very nice I really suggest taking a look plus all of them are all inclusive!  Helps with costs!

Just a warning that I received from my TA today. Riu's have a horrible reputation for groups and have a tendency to change everything for the group with no notice. My TA requires a waiver to be signed if we were to go to a Riu incase they change any of our groups plans throughout our stay.

Last year's group's dates were changed by 4 days thus altering their entire vacation and almost jeopardizing the wedding!!!

So make sure you do your research!!!!!

Good Luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
