Hello all!  I am new to BDW.com and I'm so happy that i found this site!  I'm planning my wedding for October 2011 in Punta Cana. Can anyone who's traveled to DR in October, tell me what they thought of the weather? Thanks in advance for your time and help! :-)

Congrats! I haven't been in October but this is what these guys say:

      Punta Cana weather in October

During the month of October the temperature in the area starts to decrease. The temperature range from 31ºC (88ºF) in the middle of the day to 23ºC (73ºF) in the night time. While some tropical storms might hit the area is way less frequent than in September. Don’t forget that the very high humidity can make the temperature feel higher than it is. Similar to September the month of October is quite rainy with an average rainfall of 6.5 inches of rain. The UV index for this month lowers a bit (10) but is still quite elevated. The temperature of the surface of the sea is 28ºC (84ºF).

There's basically 2 seasons November - April (22 to 28 degrees, and not much rain) and then May - October (23 to 32 degrees and more rain).  My husband works at the Plaza near one of the resorts and he's had 3 days of rain since July 1st.  I was there for 3 weeks last October, and it was always the same - Sunny, partly cloudy, chance of showers (which is usually a 15 minute shower or down pour).  We had these 15 minute showers frequently, and I think only once did it pour all day.

There are times (usually May - Oct) where it rains all week.  No point stressing about it.  Nothing you can do about it either.  It's still warm out so I say jump in the pool anyway!

        Enjoy your time!

Michael and Phil Steingard are located in Ontario, but travel to Punta Cana quite often during the year. There is a good chance they will be down already during your wedding week, so this will cut travel costs

          Thanks Lyndsay!

Thanks Khomac!  The fact that you have first hand experience of weather there in October helps!  I am going to go with October and not worry!

          Thanks again for everyone's help!

Down pours can happen during any time of the year.

After doing a trash the dress session (submerging myself completely in the ocean and pool in my dress), getting caught in a down pour is actually quite fun now.  If I got married again and it started to rain, I would seriously dance in the rain (especially in Punta Cana where the weather is so warm and the cool showers are welcomed!)

How cool would it be to sit in your bathing suits under a Palapa, holding hands with your hubby, and listening to the rain?

I welcome the rain any time now!

Thanks for all the help in this thread. My date is October 10th and I sure hope it doesnt rain during my 10Am wedding! Any other time, I welcome the rain, just not for those 20 minutes!

              Thanks Lyndsay!

I'm glad this thread was helpful to you as well!  Are you getting married at a resort?  If so - do you mind sharing the name?  I'm doing it at Paradisus Punta Cana!   Congratulations on your upcoming marriage :-)

I've been to Punta Cana in October/November three times. Although it can be a bit humid (hence the tropics) Its beautiful weather. If it rains, its 15 mins and at night. Its a great place.
