Finleys7 (Shannon)'s Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar Review: 5-1-2010

I should also mention that on top of the $300, the resort makes you purchase a guest pass (think they're $60 each) for each person, so if the photographer brings an assistant that would be another 120.

Ya know, I can't remember who, because I looked at so many, but only one photographer I spoke with offered a $300 credit towards their services to compensate for the $300 penalty.

I know it was not Ivan Luckie -- that's who we are using -- but his costs are lower than most others I've found. For a full day of photography, no photo limit, it's $1800. I'm meeting with him on our site visit July 28th, so I'm going to just mention all the additional costs the resort charges and see if he'll throw us a bone, hahaha

I had originally planned to just go with the resort's vendors for everything, but I've seen some not so good reviews on this forum. So even though it's a lot more expensive, I'm willing to spend the money, because I know we'll be happier in the long run. I'm using outside vendors for hair & makeup, photographer, DJ, & possibly our table centerpieces for the reception. (though hair & makeup is the only one that's actually cheaper than the resort)[/quote

I'm considering going with the outside photography and DJ so far. I never even thought about hair and make up. How does that work? Do you go to them or do they come to you? How are the prices compared to to resort?

For clarification the Day Passes were $50 and we had the DJ, Claudia, her assistant and the videographer - Alex. That was $200 in day passes and $300 in penalty. Claudia gave us $150 towards the penalty. We paid $5,100 total for 8 hours of photo and 5 of video. That includes our prints and album too that was $650...TOTALLY worth EVERY penny!!!!

Just wanted to say everything looks great again!  I have a question for everyone who got married at the Del Mar or are getting married there...Did the resort do anything for you for bringing a certain amount of guests/having your wedding there/paying extra for a recpetion when the resort is all inclusive??  Just wondering??

In the very beginning stages of research....Wondering what the approximate cost was for your wedding...We are planning to have about the same number of people (70).  Also I was wondering how long in advance you booked the wedding along with the average cost per guest for a 4 day stay?

Hello. I was also starting to wonder how much this was going to cost me. We are getting married at the Maya and having around 64-67 people. I have opted for the Dream package which costs 5,000 but everything is adding up! The additional per person charge over 10 people, round table chair fees, per person charge for cocktail hour!

Also, what did they supply without charge (included in package) for private dinner? Did they supply tableclothes and decorations?

Thanks.

I'm as new as you can get on this forum but I haven been reading people's reviews about various resorts along the riviera maya...your breakdown was so helpful to read through - thank you! Would you mind if I asked you a couple questions? I'd love to know what your budget was seeing as your wedding had some of the same characteristics I'd like mine to have...about 70-80 people, all inclusive resort, 4 hour reception w/ dj, full day of photography. I'm guessing it could easily add up to 20k with travel and all the added elements. Also, what kind of room rate did you get? Did your TA help with that? And would you suggest working with a TA immediately (do they charge $$$)?

Thanks a million!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
