El Dorado Royale (EDR) Brides - POST HERE!

Jill - that's true. As long as 80% of the guests are staying at EDR. I have it in my emails from Natalia.

I know I read somewhere that if you have outside guests but are holding a private event that their fee to get into EDR is waived but now I can't find it. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I'm just talking about the day of the wedding itself.

I did my fitting for my dress yesterday and also found my jewelry. I decided to ditch my sash & matching flower I bought - it didn't work as well once I had the dress on. I also found out my lovely turquoise wedges aren't as comfortable as I thought they would be. UGH. I'm going to hem the dress to flats anyway, so I might wear them just for the ceremony & pictures, then switch to sandals for dinner/reception. So the plan is I go back for a fitting in a month to see the changes to the bodice (soft sweetheart, adding gel cups to hold up the girls and fitting it to me). She'll wait to do the hem until later in the year.

And my friend who went with me to the fitting offered to throw me a shower. I was shocked, and delighted!

My 2nd errand yesterday was hitting the paper store to find paper for the sash for our invitations. Found a perfect match in a handmade Japanese paper, and then ordered paper to make the envelope liners. Now I need to find some perfect patterned paper for the pinwheels for our centerpieces.

Checked a couple of items off of my list anyway!!

Stina - are you back? Have you recovered?

Hi Ladies,

I'm new to the forum, but have tried to read through some of hte past posts to get as many of my questions answered as possible! We're been using beach bum vacations to plan everything, and our coordinator, Sarah, very highly reccomended El Dorado and feels strongly this will be the perfect place for us! We're just going to be getting down to planning the details, and I hope everything goes smoothly! It's kind of scary planning everything from afar and trusting a travel agent with EVERYTHING! Looks like things have gone well for all of you so far, though!

Chris

Allie you are so much more motivated than I am! I had my original dress fitting in March but I cancelled it because I wasn't sure if my body would be the same closer to the date. Granted my body type hasn't really change in the last 8 years but I was still too afraid. I have been taking Zumba classes like a mad woman! I have it set for sometime in August. I'm taking it to David's Bridal. All I need is for it to have a bustle put in and some gel pads for the girls too. I want to see pictures of your jewelry! I still can't decide what type of jewelry I want. And score for getting it at such a discount! I emailed Natalia today to inquire about the outside guests. I'm just wondering since we aren't really having a full on dinner for our reception, just the white glove cocktail so I wonder if that will be considered a private dinner event.

It was all about the accessories trunk show and finding the jewelry lol otherwise I would have waited until July or August I think. Even then I was willing to hold off on starting the alterations, but she was happy to move forward. She said my dress will be fine if I lose up to 20lbs - I still can go down 2 sizes with the corset back. She said if I drop 50lbs or something, then we'd have to make more alterations which would cost more. Yeah - I don't think I'll lose the 20...much less the 50!!!!

I will take some pics of the jewelry tomorrow when the lighting is better.

I think the cocktail should count as a private event. Let me go through my emails and see what her exact wording was when I asked the question (it was before we confirmed we wanted a private dinner).

well crap - Idunno Jill. here's what Natalia told me:

The cost of a day pass to attend the Wedding has a price of 72.00usd per person, This day pass has an 8 hrs lasting. In case this is not the wedding, the price of this day pass is 80 usd. Please note that the day passes must be 18 years or older, with ID presented at the front desk.

In case you host a Private dinner reception ( for a minimum of 4 hrs) and you pay for the outsider guests to have dinner, the day pass is waived.  Please note at least 80% of the total of the wedding group must stay at the resort in which the wedding is being held.

---

So it is specifically a private dinner reception, or maybe if you do the "4 hour event" it will work? I'd still ask!!!

I asked and they said no because of liablilty. They didn't even offer them at 20 a piece :(.

Allie she was very quick to respond to that question but that question only. And you are right. They will have to pay $72/ea. Oh well! But my other two big emails from two weeks ago have no response yet. Stina- how did it go? Can't wait to hear all the details! I'm getting te feeling from what Allie has also told me that EDR is one of the places they don't like open flame anywhere!

We ended up having 2 guests cancel last minute so they said they wouldnt refund us the money we already paid on their rehearsal dinners, cocktail party or reception dinners, but they would give us credit towards other things. Since we are less than a week out and have already included all of the things we really wanted in the wedding, we decided to upgrade our cake to a carrot cake (my fav) and we are upgrading our gazebo flowers to include a bit more lilies and less foliage. We are also able to get my dress steamed and my fiance's suit pressed at the resort.

We would still have about $9 left over credit, but I am so glad that we were able to at least receive credit with our guests canceling so last minute.

Oh btw, she said that the upgrade to carrot cake or red velvet is an additional 20% the cost of the cake. We are getting the $80 round cutting cake, so the additional cost was just $16.

I'm so glad they were willing to at least credit you for that and it sounds like you were able to do some pretty great things with that. That's awesome! Thanks for the price quote on the cake. We are only doing the $35 one so $7 bucks doesn't seem so bad for that red velvet!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
