Just a quick question for you about your quote.  I just got mine from Mayte and we're super happy with it, but I noticed that transportation was $7 instead of the $6 that I thought it was going to be and I remembered your note about that.  It's totally not a big deal because our quote was actually lower than expected, but I just wondered if your quote ended up staying at $7 or if it was changed at all.

So excited for november!!

Hi!  It stayed at the $7... but I didn't question her on it.  It seems like a lot of the recent brides have been quoted $7.  I was able to work with Mayte to make different choices on food and so forth to cut the cost a bit... Plus we ended up having a few less people than originally expected so that lowered the cost.  Mayte will be arranging 2 bus trips back to the hotel (one about and hour after dinner and another when everyone else wants to leave) so I figured the $7 was worth it and left it alone.

Thanks Venus!  That's what I figured as well, but I just thought I'd check.  And you were able to arrange two bus trips at different times, that's great.  We will likely do the same.

Thanks again,

Mimi

Hello everyone!  After reading everyone great reviews of Jellyfish I decided to change my whole wedding/reception from the resort to the restaurant.  I'm really happy and excited with that decision!  :-)  Mayte seems like a real genius and every picture I have seen is amazing.  I did, however have a few questions I was hoping someone could answer (Mayte's answers are a bit confusing)....

  • Does the $500 for a ceremony set on the beach include decorations (chairs, chair bows, gazebo, etc)  If not, is there a price list for these things?  What about music for walking down the aisle?
  • We would like a religious ceremony, would that cost extra?
  • What would the $500 for the Decoration place & tables include (table linens, center pieces?)?
  • I had read on the resorts page that we had to be on the island 3 business days (not counting Sunday, the day we arrive, or wedding day) prior to the ceremony.  Is this true for all legal DR weddings?

I'm sorry to be a pain and ask so many questions!  You all are too knowledgeable for your own good!  It feels so good to have a place to go to ask these questions....major weight lifted off finding this website!

Hi April!

I think I can answer a couple of the questions at least!  The $500 for the ceremony includes all the decorations that you listed, for a maximum of 50 people.  For more than 50 it's about $10 extra per person or so.  It's basically the same for the reception decorations (up to 50 people).  I don't believe that number includes fresh flower centrepieces - I think they're silk at that price.

I'm not 100% positive about music for the ceremony... I guess that's something I'd like to know too!  I think that if you're getting the sound system for the reception it includes the ceremony too - can anyone confirm that?

I believe a legal ceremony involves a $580 fee for the judge, not sure about the requirements/costs for a religious ceremony though and if you need a judge for that as well.

From what I've heard/read, the 3 business days is not a legal requirement (like it is in places like Mexico), it's just put in place by the resorts so that they can be sure that they have enough time before the wedding day to meet with the bride and groom and make sure everything is set up properly.  And sundays are the day off for the coordinators.

Hope that's a start!

I heard from her over the weekend!  It took about 3-4 weeks for her to reply because she's just so crazy busy.

As a side note, a few people have been concerned about getting their deposit in in order to be sure their date is confirmed.  My experience has been that you don't need a deposit in order for your date to be yours.  Once Mayte emails you to tell you it's available and you say yes, it's yours!  For example, I emailed her last October to check if our date was available, it was, we decided to take it, but didn't really start any planning or make an attempt to do a pre-invoice for months (busy with school :).  Back in February, Mayte had another bride enquire about our date and she told the other bride that I had reserved it, but she hadn't heard from me in a bit, so she would confirm with me that we still wanted it.  She sent me an email and we replied with an emphatic yes!  we still wanted the date! and she offered an alternate date to the other bride.  We're just working on our pre-invoice now because I wanted to get a clearer idea of costs.  So, for those who are concerned, don't worry about not having put down a deposit - your date will be reserved for you!

I got quoted $600 for the ceremony. :(

Same for the reception decorations.

For the brides that have already gotten married at the jellyfish what did you walk down the aisle too? Did mayte take care of the music for your walk down the aisle? It looks like a short aisle but I really wanted to walk down the aisle to iz somewhere over the rainbow.... 2 week countdown is on :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
