I know my wedding is far off, but I do not know when is appropriate to send STDs. We have tenatively decided May 2009 but still havent picked the particulal day. Our plan is to get married in Cancun and then have a reception back home a few weeks later. Do I send out a STD for both events? If so, are they sent together or separately? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the help!!! :)

prices for May of 2009 won't be out until around then in 2008. I would wait until about a year and then send them.

As far as the at home reception goes, I think including an enclosure card in your actual invite with information on that would be the best idea.

That's what we did! Worked out great. Then on the response card instead of just putting "decline", we put something like:Will be unable to make it to Mexico, but with STD for the AHR. I felt that gave people an easier out...so they (and we) wouldn't feel like they were rejecting us, but opting to come to the AHR instead
As far as sending out the STD, I'd wait until you have a date confirmed and closer to a year beforehand. I find that if I have too much time, I tend to put things on the backburner and forget about them. Just my humble opinion.

I started with a website to announce the info. I wanted to do that so people were not shocked by a postcard in the mail & not really know what it was all about. I sent out the website url by email almost a year in advance. I will send out the save the dates sometime around september. I'm waiting until we've taken our engagement pictures because I want to put them on the save the date.

  • 2 weeks later...

we are having a dilema because we want to send out our STD's around Labor Day so that we can give all of our guests 1 year notice and time to plan but we have yet to book our location!

is it a big deal to send them out with just the date confirmed and no location?

I would wait until you have the location picked out. But the sooner the better in giving people a heads up for your wedding. How much longer do you think for figuring out the location?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
