We've been to Riviera Maya area several times. My favorite area is south of Playa De Carmen - the Akumal / Tulum area. Many of these beaches are on coral reefs so you might not have all the nice white sand, but it is beautiful and you can snorkel, etc. There are white sandy beaches in the area, don't get me wrong, but you just need to check out the resort to be sure. I also like to stay further south because it is less touristy. We stayed at the Grand Palladium a couple years ago and LOVED it!!

However, for our son's DW, we are staying in the Cancun area, for several reasons. Cancun is very close to the airport, versus going south which could be an hour or so ride. Also, the Cancun area is in general a little more affordable. This is allowing more of our family to join in the celebration. We are having the wedding at the Gran Caribe Real Cancun. And lastly, the Cancun area is in the middle of the action so we don't have to worry about anyone running out of stuff to do! We plan to use the public transportation for some day trips to Playa and maybe even head down to Akumal for some snorkeling.

Why not start with a search of resorts in a search engine such as Expedia or Funjet then check out reviews in say TripAdvisor. Then pick the place that best fits your budget and style.

Oh, and one more thing, do you want a huge mega resort, such as the Palladium or a smaller, more intimate hotel/resort? There are pros and cons to each. Happy planning!

However, I do love Cancun! I also needed a hotel that allowed kids. If I were you, I narrow it down to a few hotels and then brose their particular threads on here. Good luck!
She is right!! Make a list of "must haves" for your wedding. I would definitely enlist the help of a travel agent. Once you do, give your agent your list of "must haves" and she will help you come up with some resorts. I would also look at trip advisor and this forum to come up with additional resorts. It's completely what vibe you are going for. Originally. I was against Cancun, because we wanted to be in the "jungle" like she said. However, once I came across "Le Blanc," I was sold! Let us know if you need any help! Good luck!

If you want white sand and crystal clear blue water, you'll have to go as far south as you can. Think southern Tulum. Further north and the water has a lot of coral (which is NOT a bad thing) but the sand isn't nice powder.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
