Anyone getting legally hitched before Mexican wedding?

Recommended Posts

We have decided to get married a few days before we leave for Mexico. I have told my parents and my MOH. My mom was ok with it, but feels the wedding and AHR is all fake. I am worried about saying my vows when we do it here. I don't want to say my vows twice. All I basically want to do is sign the certificate and that is all...not sure if our city hall will allow that though. I also thought of my MOH becoming an ordained minister online and doing it for us, that way we don't have to say the vows or do a ring exchange.

I have been considering the same thing, if I decide to get wed in Mexico over TX, then my FI and I will most likely get legally married in NJ and then have the wedding in Mexico. I just thought it would be easier and less of a hassle, but now that I am reading about the cost and the length of time to actually get a copy of the license, I'm thinking it is the right choice.

We have just recently started to seriously consider getting married right before we leave just so we don't have to jump through all the hoops that Mexico requires. We would not tell anyone but our witnesses and actually my FI's best friend is unable to attend the wedding because his wife is expecting their first child the week after our wedding, so we thought about having them be our witness for the legal cermony. And we thought about doing it the Saturday before we fly out, which would be tight, we fly out Sunday at 6am. But our original wedding date was that Saturday, we had the date set 2 years before we got engaged! Yes, he was a little slow to get the ring! :) Anyway, that way we could kind of keep that date a special date as well. Although we would still consider our wedding date the date in Mexico since that is the ceremony with the vows and what we will be announcing as our wedding date on our AHR invites.

This is a great idea! How difficult is it to become ordained? We thought we would make an appointment with a judge that performs weekend wedding, wasn't sure how much that might cost.

We have a similar situation with a close friend not attending because a baby is on the way, we think it will also be very special to have them apart of it in that way. How can you make the date you're out of the country your legal wedding date? This is legal to falsify the legal documents? I have no judgement, this is a nice option. I'm thinking we might need to find a friend who can marry us! :)

I have a good friend who is unable to attend our destination wedding because she is pregnant, and her and her husband will come over to be our witnesses, which makes us both very happy. I am a little afraid the Mexican wedding won't feel "legal", but I think I would be more unhappy doing it ahead of time, and then feeling like "we just did this a few days ago" when we are standing before our friends and family in Mexico. I was completely against getting married in the states until I figured out it was going to cost $600+++ in just legal fees to do it in Mexico...I would rather spend that money on our vacation! I still have some question in my mind that we may do the legal ceremony the night before we leave...I'm just not 100% certain yet...but either way, the date on the marriage license will be the date of the wedding in Mexico, so we will not have to worry about 2 anniversary dates. I also do not think we are going to tell our family about this plan because I don't want them to feel like they are attending a "fake" ceremony. I know this is probably not how they would feel, but I don't want to let anyone down after spending the time and money to come away with us to celebrate our day!

We just decided that we will be getting "legally" married on April 17th by my Fi's uncle who is a minister. My fi's side of the family is throwing us a "couples" shower where the men attend as well sort of as a send off since much of his family won't be attending the wedding (mainly grandparents). I am going to wear my ttd and have a little ceremony at his aunt's house. My grandpa will be there as well. I am trying to look at it as something more for my future grandparents and my grandpa to be a part of and witness. I want to think of it as a way to include the family that cannot attend and Mexico will be much more intimate and all about S and I....its hard not to feel like Mexico won't be a little cheated, but we are writing our own vows for Mexico and won't be saying them at the legal day so I'm hoping that keeps things very special for our REAL day in Mexico...I'll keep you all posted on my afterthoughts...

Good luck ladies!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
