Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

wow! so much to review!! miss a few days and you're way behind!

first Val - you looked STUPENDOUS!!!! absolutely gorgeous!! if that's the sneek peek of your pics, I can't wait to see what's to come!!! congrats on finally getting the big day done!

I'm really getting nervous about the posts I'm seeing. our day is 4 weeks from tomorrow and we leave in 3 weeks. bugs???  roaches??? yuck!! some of what I'm hearing really worries me since we're only 2 and don't have any friends to back us up with help!!  we're doing a sand ceremony too but I'm going to have the big guy take care of that. Donnalee ain't gettin anywhere near it!!!  lol

and I've had completely different stuff given to me in terms of what cake design options I have, what flower design options I have. cupcake - where the heck did you get those pics of the cake options?? I got nothing like those sent to me!!!  unfortunately I'm at work and what I do have is on my home puter but tonight I will post what I have for flowers and cake. they are nothing like what everyone else seems to have and I was told I couldn't change any designs or colours. you get what you pick and that's it.

flower selections from Tai I'm really pleased with if it helps anyone. she gave me about 15 choices but since we're just 2 I opted for something a bit bigger so we're getting a nice bouquet (I hope) a bout, and a really nice centerpiece for our table for $200. given what the costs are here, I'm fine with that. it's the jamaican tax that kills you!!!  17%! wow!!

plus someone here was asking about the 2012 package prices. I have those at home too so will post them.

hello to all the newbies!!  this is an awesome site. the ladies are wonderful with both advice and moral support!  I'm so going to miss it later on, but I'm going to stick around to check on some of the january weddings just to see how they turn out!!!

tekya - you still sound like you enjoyed everything in spite of the mishaps and that's all that counts. we do have to remember that it isn't home. it's a different country and they do things differently there. and you're doing it from a distance. they're a hotel chain. they do their best (most of them) but things will happen. if you don't find a way to laugh about it, you go crazy and life is just too short for that. I've learned that lesson BIG TIME over the last few months of being deserted for my wedding.

and lastly for anyone still looking for a photographer I can't say enough about ours even though we haven't used him yet. he has been a prince with all of our disappointments and upsets and I would recommend him just based on his attitude because he has been so great. if his pictures are half as good as his website and how he deals with things, I will truly have beautiful wedding photos.

ok. so for what I was given for info:

for cakes: I was told I have these 3 options attached to these mens and this is what we have to chose from for our dinner menu:

the Tai Flora document is too big to upload, but for anyone that got it from Jennivie, she told me the selections are any between 149 and 164 and the matching bout is free. if I can alter the catalogue to post here I will.

whoever was looking for the 2012 packages, this is it:

ACW: She sent me those as well!  I was really hoping that they would be able to make a standard fondant frosted cake, especially because the first option seems to be simple smooth fondant (minus the sand decor!).  That being said, every cake I have ever seen actual photos of has that thick swirly icing look.

Has anyone asked for any of these cakes specifically?  Its from 2010, so I'm wondering if they've switched bakers or something?

BEWARE ladies!  I sent an email to Chandlyn only (not Donnalee) on Sunday and I received an email response back today from Chandlyn's email, however it was signed at the end as Donnalee White for Chandlyn Edwards.  It appears that even if you want to deal only with Chandlyn now, you can't.  Donnalee appears to have found a way to cut us off at the knees  sad.gif  The other part that worries me is that she made a statement (see below) that makes it sound like they don't have a file for me even though I've emailed Chandlyn about a million times!

You are required to fill out the personal information sheet at the end of the wedding attachment and email it back to us, so we can create a file for you. Two months prior to the wedding, you are required to email me copies of your birth certificates, the credit card payment form and copies of your IDs(whether drivers licence or passport) and the IDs must be signed by a Notary Public or a Lawyer.

My wedding is still about 4 months away and now I'm worrying that all the arrangements I've previously negotiated with Chandlyn have not been documented.  Like seriously, what the heck does Donnalee mean she needs the personal information sheet so that they can create a file for me?!  I've already sent that in for one, and for two I've sent emails about every single detail for my wedding that Chandlyn said she would put a note in my file about.  Why does everything have to be so complicated with these darn wedding planners?

Ashley,

Just remember to stay on top of them and continuously remind them of your requests.  Before my wedding, I had a difficult time receiving any response at one time and started to panic.  I eventually got a returned call after my husband spoke to a front desk Supervisor.  The contact was not consistent, but I was able to express my vision to Chandlyn.  You have the most contact with her once you arrive at the resort.  Besides doing a wedding rehearsal, do a walk through with Chandlyn to see the distance from your room location, check out restaurant for reception to check for issues about bugs or A/C and express any other concerns about the wedding.  Everything will be fine and continue to advocate for what you want.  In the end, it all works out.

I got a similar email telling me I needed to fill out that form so they could create a file.  I was a little shocked, thinking that I have been planning my wedding for many months just to find out I didn't already have a file.  Once I clarified this with Chandlyn things were fine.  Its just there way of saying things, probably not the best wording to use, as like you, it made me a little nervous!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
