We get married the same day as you 7.23. 2010 in Aruba, we fly back gome on the 27th our AHR is 7.30. It does seem overwhelming but i thik i rather get it all out of the way while we are still on our wedding high. Because once we come down our next focus is a house. Some people do like to spread it out.

I think everyone situation is different. I am from New Orleans but don't live there. My FI is from another part of Indiana that we do not live in. My family is huge in NO. My dad really wanted me to have something in NO for the family. I really didn't care as long as someone else planned but me. So as long as I am not involved than they can do their thing. We will fly from JA to NO and stay ther a few days and fly home and be off a few more days. I know it is intense but I am a daddy's girl and want him to be happy. Also the only person from my FI familt coming to wedding is his mom(his second marriage my first). We are inviting him to them to NO party.

First of all, I do not think you are being unreasonable as it is YOUR wedding and YOUR event regardless of who is paying for it. If you need time to unwind, there is no reason why your FMIL should push you. End of story.

With that said, my personal preference would be to have the AHR as close to returning as possible so that the people who missed out on the actual reception would still feel like part of the wedding "buzz" and I would still be in the wedding mind-set.

I would want more than a week! DH and I returned from Mexico on July 22nd and had scheduled our AHR for August 1st. The wedding was so easy, but the AHR was SO STRESSFUL. It probably didn't help that we bought a house 3 days before leaving for Mexico and the wedding, so when we got back we were moving. We rented a place, but did everything else ourselves. The only way I would agree is if FMIL was doing all the planning. Otherwise, it's way too much. You need time to unwind!
