Hey lmarie, The lobby bar is completely open and everyone is allowed there. I have attached two pictures of the outside lobby bar. There is one bar outside and tons of table/chairs all along the balcony. There is another bar inside, directly behind the balcony / in the white doors that you can see in pic #2. You can also see part of the bar to the left in that picture. Pic #1 gives you an idea of how much space there is. The main lobby is also right inside the doorway thats to the left in this pix.  PS. the stairs that you can see are really annoying and I would suggest telling everyone to be super careful on them and maybe try to avoid them when drinking!! They are an awkward size ...it feels weird to take normal steps on them, but there not actually big enough for two steps!   Pic 1 149901_501863951802_517301802_7226785_2617139_n.jpg Pic 2 balcony.jpg Were there other brides around??

Hi Ali, I had it at the Pisces restaurant which is a outside patio, I am so glad I had it there, it was perfect! It was 1700.00 to close it down and have a private party for 4 hrs but the manager let us go for about an hour longer! Food was awesome! Can't say one bad thing about it! Angela
Hi Angela. I am getting married there this fall. I am also hoping to get the piscis restaurant. What did you do for decorations? Brought your own? I have seem those paper lanterns on some people's pictures. Thanks Ang

Hi Angela,

I am also hoping to use the Piscis Restaurant, I keep asking the planner what the $1700 includes but her responses are short and hasn't answered that. I know it includes decorations, but did you have to pay extra for bar service and/or food?? I saw a few threads on here that seemed that they paid $20/person for bar service, but I think that was when they rented out the gazebo. Any help would be much appreciated :)  thanks. Ang

There's another GBP Runaway Bay thread on this site that's a lot more active that this one. I'm getting married there next Jan 2014 and am also choosing the Pisces.

According to the wedding planner the 1700 dinner reception which includes bar service (during dinner) and DJ service for 4 hours. I asked about bar service after dinner and she said the waiters usually stop serving since dinner is done but she can ask the restuarant owner to have them servce a little longer...

Other than that, bar service is about 23 bucks per person. Maybe people have bought their own drinks down from their room, or bought a bunch to serve during the reception. You can get juices and pops for free to use as mix.

One bride mentioned she asked nicely for a couple bottles of booze and the wedding planner gave her a couple at no extra charge. It seem like there's a lot of negotiating that can be done.

Your wedding photos look stunning and you and your groom look so happy :) My fiance and I are looking to get married there, we were wondering whether they have some sort of a arch or something the can set up to stand under should we choose to get married on the beach like yourselves?

Thanks,

Christine

Hi! My husband and got married at the Gran Bahia in JA this past November 15, 2012. I have to say that our experience was amazing. The resort has 3 weddings that day alone, and our wedding happened to be last. Our families are Guyanese, so we are very aware of the Caribbean culture, as we are West Indians as well. We were lucky, and had 45 guests come with us. Because of costs, we opted to not close down the restaurant, and we had a semi-private dinner. It wasn't bad, and there was actually another wedding party at the restaurant that night. We chose the steakhouse (forget the actual name), but the food was delicious. We got to choose the menu. Our cake was beautiful and nicer than I expected for the Caribbean. For our reception, we rented the Gazebo after dinner for two hours for $500 US. This allowed us to have a little dancing. The DJ;s were polite, and stayed a little later than they were supposed to. We didn't pay for a bartender for the gazebo, because it was a ridiculous cost of $20-30/ person. Instead, I bought bottles of alcohol in town, and soda, and we mixed our own drinks. It cost me about $50 US, and my guests were happy pouring their own drinks. The DJ's didn't say anything, and security didn't come around. We had Aricliffe (resort photography) do our pictures. Chris Lee was our photographer and he was amazing. He is such a nice person, not to mention very talented and good at what he does. I was really scared about our photographs going into this, because the resort charges you a surcharge for using an off resort photographer. We are very happy with our photographs. I can post a more detailed description at a later date, as I am currently at work. But the only advice that I can give you is this: Remember, Jamaica is not the US or Canada, so don't go in with the expectations that your wedding and reception will be like one planned here in a huge banquet hall. Those cost $30,000 +, and that won't happen at this resort or any other, unless you have the coin to make it happen. If you want decor and you are very particular about your decor, then take it down with you and the Wedding coordinator and her team will put them up for you. Let me know if you would like a detailed description.

We are currently waiting to hear back from our TA to see if we can get our date booked for April 2014.  I had read on another forum that the GBP didn't charge for bringing in an outside vendor, but now I am seeing that they do.  Does anyone know how much they charge to bring in your own photographer?  Or are the photographers at the resort worth the risk of not seeing their work before hand?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
