Same!!!  I'm getting the best of both worlds.  Neither me or my FI could imagine getting married anywhere but where we are, but we also want to celebrate with everyone.  My reception will be as if we just left the wedding.  The guests are going to see video/pictures from the wedding ceremony and then we are coming in and being introduced.  We are having butlered hors'dourves followed by a sit-down appetizer, salad and entree!

Wow jszy! Your AHR sounds very similar to mine. Our reception will be seven weeks after we return. And just like you, we'll have a slide show of the wedding, the event staff will be serving hors d'ourves as guest arrive, they will introduce us and we will come from the bridal room.

I haven't picked my menu yet, but it'll probably be salad, two different types of pasta, grilled chicken and veggies and I'm not sure what else. I can't wait! You said it best, we get the best of both worlds!

Hi ladies! I'm getting really excited about my AHR--even though it's not until April! I've decided to get a photo booth and was able to negotiate a really good price! (The guy is giving it to me for $600.) I sent the email below to five different vendors and I'm so glad that I was able to get one for less than the going rate ($875-$1200).

This is the email that I sent:

Hi Colby,

I am having a destination wedding in Turks & Caicos, and a few weeks later we're having a reception in Dallas on April 30, 2011. I am very interested in renting a photo booth for our four hour event.  Unfortunately, my budget is extremely tight and I was hoping that maybe you're currently offering some type of special.

I'd also like to mention that having your photo booth at our reception will be a great marketing tool considering there will be exactly four other couples at the reception who will be marrying in 2011 as well. I will be extremely willing to recommend your service.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,

Misti Buard

Very nice!

Our reception is actually 1 week after we get back from Mexico -- yes, I might be crazy haha.  I'm really looking forward having a full reception with ALL of my friends and family!!   I honestly did think at first from time to time how much cheaper it would have been to just have something informal, but them I remind myself that this is my ONLY wedding celebration, so I want to make it everything I have ever hoped for!

I don't have pics yet or anything . we are getting married next month. Just thought i would let you know i kinda feel the same way but am really happy with the choices we have made so far. here is kinda what we are doing....

We are taking 10 ppl with us to Jamaica. All those ppl we invited by word of mouth right after the engagement. We had everything booked within a week. I am doing OOT bags per cpl.

Three days after we get back we will be having a formal AHR with almost 200 ppl. We hired a photographer for jamaica and home. We ar spending so much money for the AHR but i really think it will be worth it. All the ppl that cant come will still feel like they got to come to our wedding. I dont want to leave ppl out beacuse they were not invvited to the DW even if they did have the money to go. We have a different suit and dress for AHR. Buffet style dinner for everyone. All the DW guests will be at AHR. The linens alone are over 1,500. I didnt want to do it half assed but i am still trying to do alot of things myself and limit how much i spend. It is hard tho. There will be a full bar open the whole time.

If you have any questions or want any other advice please feel free to ask. I know sometimes we all just want some reassurance!

Ahh thank you! Yes you are right.. Sometimes its just nice to have reassurance.. I was in a panic about it thinking it was too much but then I thought about our grandparents and uncles and aunts that couldnt make it.. I want to have family photographs with them and celebrate with them so I am going all out on the AHR and really having another wedding at home without the ceremony!!

Hope everything goes great for your wedding! Not long now!! Are you all organised and ready to go? xxxx

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
