This was such a great, romantic idea.... that David and I decided to write letters to each other, seal them up and add a bottle of our favorite wine to be opened at al later day... possibly our 5th year anniversary!

So glad that I found this site.... There are a ton of great ideas! Thanks!

What a great new tradition! It's probably going to catch on like wildfire. The only thing I would be worried about is the fact that if you don't store wine properly, it spoils. But there's nothing stopping you from writing the letters and putting them alone in a special box. It's definitely very romantic. If I had known about this when I was planning my wedding, I would have added it, for sure. Well, then again, who says you can only do this on your wedding day? Hmmmm. Gotta go write a letter!

I have found one that just loooks sooooo perffect, but it is out of stock. I have lots of time before my wedding (over a year and a half) so I'm sure I can get it when it comes in.

Here is some wording that I tweaked...what do you think?

Love Letter and Wine Box Ceremony –

Officiant (ADDRESSING GUESTS): Jennifer and Laurthel as a couple, have chosen to perform a Love Letter & Wine Box ceremony.

This box will contain a bottle of wine, two glasses, and a love letter from each to the other. The letters describe the good qualities they find in one another, the reasons they fell in love, and their reasons for choosing to marry. The letters are sealed in individual envelopes and they have not seen what the other has written.

Officiant (ADDRESSING COUPLE): Jennifer and Laurthel, should you ever find your marriage enduring insurmountable hardships, you are to as a couple, open this box, sit and drink the wine together, then separate and read the letters you wrote to one another when you were united as a couple in marriage. By reading these love letters you will reflect upon the reasons you fell in love and chose to marry each other here today in front of the most cherished people in your lives.

The hope is, however, that you will never have a reason to open this box. If this is the case, upon your 5th wedding anniversary you are to open this box to share, enjoy and celebrate your love and dedication to one another.

With that being said, Jennifer and Laurthel please place the bottle of wine, two glasses and letters into the box and seal it.

Officiant (ONCE ITEMS HAVE BEEN PLACED IN BOX AND SEALED): I recommend that you keep the box in a place of honor, prominently displayed in your home as a constant reminder of your commitment to each other and your vows.

I'm adding this to my wish list. We love wine and this just is such a nice romantic idea :) And i like that it adds a bit more the ceremony. I don't want a long ceremony, but some that are over in 10 mins, it's like, geez that was it?!!!

I totally agree. Unless you're having some sort of religious ceremony with a service then its over in 15 minutes or less. What I like about this addition to the ceremony is that it will allow us to incorporate other loved ones to play a part in the ceremony. So for example, since both my parents (who are divorced) are walking me down the aisle, I wanted to have his mom (his dad is deceased) present us with the wine glasses and my step dad present us with the letters and bottle of wine. Basically, they will come up, present us with the items, give hugs and kisses, and together we put them into the box.

Yay...Crystal I'm glad you are doing this too. Be sure to update me when you get back with the responses from your guests. I am sure its going to cause a lot of questions and comments as most people have never heard of or seen this.

My only fear is that I will be an emotional wreck when trying to write his letter. The closer we get to the date the more "unwrapped" I seem to be becoming..LOL

I love the wine box idea. I came across this a few months ago, FI and I have decided we are going to do this ourselves by just putting the wine and our letters in it before we leave for Mexico. I just don't want to travel with it. World market definitely has great wine boxes.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
