do they have problems with bringing wedding dresses? how did that part go?

I THINK that the 300 limit is per person and it's not for personal items for your use.  So your wedding dress should be fine. I've taken plenty of personal items that were worth more than that.

Hola Amigas!

It's time for me to finish packing and closing up the suitcases for Mexico. We leave in 4 weeks. I cannot believe the time is here!

I probably have a total of 4 suitcases of OOT Bags/Goodies/Favors/Mugs, puzzle books, survuval kits, maracas, etc as well as wedding decor. So do I have to account (receipt wise) for EVERYTHING? Or can I leave out stuff like the cake topper, chair sashes, table runners, picture frames for display things, baskets, straws, cocktail napkins, etc?

I understand I should be able to account for stuff in mass volume, i.e., bags, mug, koozies, survivial kits, maracas, bottle openers, etc...but the wedding decor too?

With each packed bag, I plan to enclose a list of what is inside with their value and receipts for each. Most importantly, make sure it's $300 or less.  We will split them up between the 7 of us traveling down there that day.

I have receipts for everything, I was just not sure how specific I needed to be.

Any insight you ladie could give would be SO AWESOME!

Gracias! xoxo

It specifically does relate to the items which will be gifts (ie. stuff you will not be taking home with you). What customs is worried about is that you are bringing items into the country to sell....so if you have a lot of wedding decor they might question it. So I would have the reciepts for the items you have multiples of...such as the OOT bag items, photo frames, chair sashes, etc. But if you happen to get searched, be very specific, that these supplies are for your wedding! Not to be sold, and will be taken home with you again. I think it's a great idea to have a list with the reciepts in each bag...very organized!

Hope that helps. Good luck with your packing and have a beautiful wedding.

We luckily did not get searched going into Mexico- we got the green light yay!  I only had my suitcase and one additional suitcase full of wedding stuff- the leftovers got shoved into other people's suitcases, lol.

But I did get searched when I came home to ST Louis- so weird- they were questioing our sand ceremony and all we had to say was that we were married in Mexico and that we bought the sand from Hobby Lobby (after they shook it up mind you) and they let us go..ugh we were so irritated with them lol.

Thank you for putting me at ease.  I am making my lists per suitcase with receipts now.  Making sure each suitcase is under $300.00  I will be sure to keep saying it is all wedding favors/gifts that are not to be sold and not coming home with me!

Thank you for the well wishes!  xoxo

Searcged on the way home?  WOW!  I think these days sand may be a speculation....they are so tough now, but come on?  In a decorative vase I am sure!  I am debating whether or not to do the sand ceremony...I bought the supplies.....just a matter of transporting safely...maybe on my person instead of the extra suitcases.  Thanks for sharing!

A few more questions:

Regarding Customs Declaration Form provided on the link below

http://www.aduanas.gob.mx/aduana_mexico/Descargas/DECLARACION_ADUANAS_(INGLES)_final_191005_check_211005.pdf

1.  When filling out the Customs Declaration form for the arrival into Mexico, do I need to declare the additional suitcases somewhere separately or just include them with the # of pieces of luggage I am bringing with me (section 3)?

2.  For items that were purchased online, do I need to include shipping & tax as part of the item cost or just the actual cost of the item?

Thanks for your help!  :-)

Ya our flight was delayed and we just wanted to get home- but thank you for customs in the US for holding us up!! Ugh-  they were in Mason jars with our initials etched in them in the suitcase with all the OTHER wedding decorations...  At least they let us go when we said we bought it all at Hobby Lobby lol.

You just have to claim the number of suitcases as your luggage(whether it be 2 or 7). But if you have someone else taking a bag for you-they claim that bag on their custom form. Don't claim shipping/handling or taxes -just the actual cost of the items. As for the sand ceremony...I think I can shed some light on why customs stopped shan. Sand from a beach, is technically illegal to bring into the US or Canada(from anywhere in the world). It falls under the same category as fresh fruits/veggies...odd I know, but they are worried about local bacteria/diseases being transferred. So should you do the sand ceremony, they want to know it's sand that has been purchased, and hence cleaned commercially. As well, to keep the sand from shifting, consider taking a sponge along. You stuff it into the top of the vase to keep the sand tight.

The funny part was that it was blue and yellow sand...didn't know you could get that from the beach, lol.  I just packed a plastic grocery bag in the top of our jar and it keep it from moving- until customs shook the whole jar of course.......

    • Just finished building and was lost on heating... this site helped a lot with practical examples.
• Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
