Leaving for DW in Cancun next Sunday; Swine Flu

Recommended Posts

So I've been planning my destination wedding for over a year, and its finally here. We have 40 guests coming with us, and we fly out May 10 (next Sunday). Unfortunately, my guests are very worried about the swine flu situation and some have started to cancel. I don't know what to do. I've advised them about tamiflu (which my dr already prescribed to me), but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I know the swine flu problem is much bigger than me or my wedding, but its hard to accept that things are falling apart with a week left. Its killing me.

So sorry hun. My wedding was supposed to be in Cancun on the 6th and with less than a week to go we decided to move everything- we're going to the Bahamas instead. (what a pain in the ass that was!) It was a good thing we decided when we did too becuase resorts everywhere are filling up with people that are changing their mexico trips we almost didn't get enough rooms!

I know exactly how you feel and good luck with whatever you decide. Everything happens for a reason (that's what i keep telling myself!)

It really seems that the media has dramatized the situation. This morning they said that it isn't as bad as originally thought and there were actually far less deaths in Mexico than originally reported. When you think about it, statistically, the spread of the flu isn't that bad. If there are 20m people in Mexico City and less than 1,000 have it and 320m people in the US and only 250 cases reported, I think we are ok. There still are no confirmed cases in Cancun and another bride on this forum got married last week and everyone was fine. She said that she didn't even know it was all going on until she was leaving. Keep your head up...I think there is a light at the end of this tunnel:)

I'm so sorry!

The media seems to be backing down a bit today, admitting that things are dying down in Mexico with the flu and even admitting that it has been blown a bit out of proportion.

Hopefully the next few days will continue to look up and your guests will reconsider and be more comfortable.

Keeping you in my thoughts and I'm sure things will work out in the end!

We got married on April 23rd and I have been thinking about the future cancun brides. The "swine flu" talk did not start till after our wedding! We stayed in Cancun and the hotel occupancy was like 50% without the word of the "swine flu". We went downtown and it was a ghost town. I can only imagine what it's like now. I'm in the medical industry and I think that this has been spun out of control!

No one in my group got gotten sick to date! Before we left Mexico, they closed all the tourist attractions. Not sure if they have been reopened.

Make the best of your wedding day! I know that it's bumming you out that your guests are cancelling, but it's about you and your husband starting your life together. Good luck with everything!

There are no reported cases in the state that Cancun is in. I am getting married at Moon Palace in July and have been watching the Moon Palace thread closely. One of the MP brides got married last Saturday and said everything is fine. We have another one getting married this Friday and is there now. There was also another bride that has been there on her honeymoon and reported the same.

I hope everything works out for you! I know how you feel! We started out with over 60 people and are down to high 30s now.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
