Why did you choose Riu?

As I have been searching the forum, it seems so many brides have chosen to be wed at Riu? And I was wondering why?

Is it because of costs, scenery, location?

Because so many brides have chosen Riu as there destinantion, I am sure it is beautiful, but I was wondering is there one deciding factor over another that aided you in you decision.

We were originally booked at the Grand Lido Negril but switched to the Riu Ocho Rios 4 months before the wedding. We chose the Riu for several reasons including:

-Children and singles friendly (we had a 16 year old cousin and single brother in law travelling with us)

-Price, great value compared to many other Jamaican resorts

-Size, more stuff to do to keep 30 people occupied and more space to lose 30 people if required ;-)

-Free wedding package offered, i couldn't fathom paying extra to feed guests at an all-inclusive resort

-Looked modern and luxurious

-Nice looking (huge) beach

-No nudie beaches

-Availability, they had an opening!!

It'll be interesting to see other's responses!

We picked it b/c

My FI loves to stay at RIU's. (they always went on family vacays there)

The food and accomodations are always great

They had availability for my date

The service is top notch

It is an All Inclusive Resort

I love the gazebo-it looks beautiful in pictures w/the beach in the background

I honestly don't even remember why I initially chose ROR. I think I just started reading reviews of resorts in Jamaica & it seemed like this one had some good reviews at the time plus the property itself was just beautiful. Also, it was fairly new & we like to visit resorts that are new.

Once I joined BDW & began doing research & was able to see pics & read wedding reviews, that ultimately sealed the deal.

Then I realized how economical it was going to be for the wedding itself (the free package was rare as compared to most of the other resorts) & for my guests so the value was a definite plus.

After being there I know I made the right decision & wouldn't have done anything differently!

My FI and I knew that we were going to have a beautiful beach destination wedding but just were unsure as to what resort.Originally we had wanted Sunset Jamaica Grande because one of my friends had gotten married there and had nuthing but good things to say. I had emailed them initially to inquire about prices and such and was a little taken aback as to how much it would cost us when the sole purpose of a DW was to have it a little easier on our wallet.

After doing research online and joining the forum we decided the Riu Ocho Rios. We are still currently waiting for the 2010 packages but from what I have heard/read about the Riu I am pretty sure this is the spot!

Everyone who has gotten married at the Riu has such wonderful photos and the reviews are pretty impressive. All of the people that I have spoken to have had wonderful vacations at Riu Resorts at other locations. Fortunately for me I have found a TA that has been to the ROR just recently too!

Well thats my novel! OH and the pics of the liquor dispensers had nothing at all to do with our choice! shots.gif =)

We picked it for the following reasons

no translation and ceremony would be in english

free wedding package

known for its weddings and had a good reputation

had several items we were looking for aka ..swim up bar and golf

fairly large resort so guests wouldn't be obliged to be together if they didn't wanna be

value for the price we paid

Why I decided on the ROR. First of all I had my heart set on getting married in the Dominican. I chose the resort and then I decided having to change all that paperwork into Spanish etc was not a cost I wanted. So I then checked other countries and what the requirements were. Jamaica seemed the easiest. I then started my search. I fell in love with the rui, the resort to me looks so beautiful. I must say it sure helped having all the pics of past brides etc and the reviews.

I booked my wedding at the RIU Ocho Rios for a few reasons:

-location-Jamaica is beautiful and wanted to visit

-the free wedding included in the entire package

-good reviews and past brides seemed happy with their wedding result

-accommodating for singles, children and couples and I will be traveling with a 10 month old

All in all it satisfied several things we needed for our beach wedding! :)

We ultimately picked the Riu Palace Riviera Maya because it was one of the only resorts that had a set wedding package for 50 people. Alot of the other resorts only had them for up to 20 people then you had to pay per person after that. We knew we would have alot more than 20 so that was a deal breaker for us. My fiance has been to Mexico several times and I have never been. Hes neen to Cancun and other palces but never to Riviera MAya so thats another reason why we picked our location.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
