@DANITREE-  DO NOT USE THE RESORT PHOTOGRAPHER!!!!!!!!  Please go back and read the horrific posts on the resorts photographer.  THey are horrible. SImply put- horrible and you WILL regret it.

@ANAS- I am soooooo excited for you ! It looks like you are our next OCT bride on this forum!!!!!  It will be here before you know it.  My work bridal shower was yesterday and tomorrow is my family and friends bridal shower and it is really starting to hit me!

Regarding the photographer, I totally agree with Sandy.  If you go with the resort you're literally getting Iguana Man to take your photo (i.e. the guy that runs around the resort putting an iguana on your shoulder and then takes your picture).

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here :)

My fiancee and I are in the process of choosing a place for our destination wedding and I can't thank you enough for all the good information in here. At this point, after reading the posts, I feel pretty confident that Ocean Coral is the perfect place for us so we have contacted Ana and other management people in regards of some concerns we had and were very impressed with how helpful they were.

Can't wait to set up a date!

We are thinking about June 2013. Anyone planning to get married in June as well?

Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for the feedback tropic lover and sandi! Can anyone recommend a photographer in the area? Also how will it work I will pay a resort day pass for photographer? The OCT is pretty cooperative with outside photographers? Or should I prepare myself? Thanks again! So glad I stumbled across this forum in all my googling about the Ocean Coral and Turquesa, sooooo helpfull!

@JCP62212 -- We are thinking about June 16 or 23 :)

It's awesome that you're going there to check out the place. Unfortunately I can't do it right now so I'm totally relying on the info here in order to make a decision. I would love to hear about your trip and see your pictures if you don't mind sharing. It would certainly help me A LOT!

Have a safe trip and enjoy as much as you can.

@Danitree, there are a lot of great photographers in the Cancun area, it just takes a bit research to find one that matches whar you're looking for.  Take a scroll through the review section of BDW to see what other brides had to say about certain photographers.  I used Sascha Gluck (Cancun Photos) and although I haven't seen any of my photos yet, I'm confident they will be great!  Sascha's such a nice man, totally professional and made us feel comfortable throughout the 8 hours we had him.  Once I receive my pictures I'll be posting a review.  In the meantime I must confess I'm a blog-stalker of his (lol) and he just posted another wedding he did earlier this month at the OCT.  Check it out: http://cancunphotosblog.com/  I'm not sure if the bride is on this forum, but she does look lovely, congratulations.

With that all said the hotel is fairly reasonable when it comes to outside photographers.  To be safe I suggest to tell Ana/Karen (the wedding coordinators) that you already have one booked.  Like most hotels you will need to pay a $300 Vendor Fee, plus an $80 day pass per person (so $460 for the photographer and his assistant).  Trust me it's worth it!  Factor it into your photog budget early....also remember this price is negotiable ;-)

Happy Planning!

@TropicLover- I was thinking of booking the photographers a room. It would come out less expensive than $460. Can we do that?

@CamilaS- Of coarse I will post all my pics on here when I return! It's so exciting we will be planning for the same time frame!

@JCP62212, I think you could do that and just say they are a guest.  If the hotel knows they are a pro photographer in the area they will most likely charge you.  I would check with the photographer to see what they feel comfortable with.  Most of them are familiar with the hotels so I would think they wouldn't want to jeopardize that relationship (in case they get banned or something).  Also most of the photographers live in the area so they don't require a room, but I see where you're coming from on the cost savings aspect.

Hey girls, I just wanted to add a little bit regarding the cost of the wedding.  I'm starting to get a little bit annoyed with the way things are adding up.  I asked for the Paradise package which basically is supposed to include just about everything, from hair and makeup, to the ceremony, to the reception dinner for 40 people.

For starters, the wedding coordinators send me all the information piecemill, several days apart.  Their brochures are so disorganized, it's so frustrating. Some are in spanish, some in English.  The Spanish brochures have slightly different information than the English brochures.

Also, if you want anything personalized for the wedding, such as votive candles on the reception tables, they will charge you.  $3/votive.  It doesn't sound like much but they seriously charge you for every stinking thing! I wanted to have my bouquet out of ranunculus and they said it would cost me $250!

Anything else you want to personalize, they referred me to Event 1 Planners.

Also, I asked for the wedding to be held at sunset (before I realized the sun sets behind the resort.) Initially, that's what I thought I was getting but instead they are now telling me that the wedding is at 4pm-4:30pm. 4:30-5pm pictures, 5-6 champagne toast, 6-9 reception. Not horrible, but not what I really wanted.

I'm just bringing up these points because you should ask lots and lots of questions and get lots and lots of cost information before you agree to put down your deposit.  You should also expect that becuase there is a language barrier, they often do not answer the question you asked.  I have had to get my spanish speaking co-worker to call them for me so I can get the answer I really want!

GOOD LUCK!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
