Congrats Maureen! I am planning a wedding at the Riu Ocho Rios in March of '09 and have the need to plan, plan, plan too! Did you consider getting married at the resort and if so what made you not choose that route? Also (assuming you will have guests in attendence) what about getting your self and guets to the location? How close to the resort is it? Sorry for all the questions, just curious! In any case it looks beautiful and I'm sure your wedding will be just as nice!

I'm getting married May 3 in Ocho Rios (by way of cruise ship). I'm also using Tropical Weddings Jamaica. Almarie has been awesome!!!! She offers "packages" but I went with the very basic and added on items individually depending on what I wanted. She has been extremely helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I'm getting married on the private beach, but she can arrange several beautiful locations for both the ceremony and reception (I sound like her personal PR assistant!).

Let me know if I can help and I'll post a review of the wedding, so you'll have lots of time to decide if it's the route for you

Hi Amy84Lynn. I did consider the resort for our wedding but decided against it. I wanted a more exotic location. FH and I didn't want to get married on the beach. Also we wanted something a bit more private. I don't want resort guests gathering to watch and getting in our pictures. Also I didn't want to be rushed or known as the 2pm bride... I guess I just want a more personal experience. Also Almarie of Tropical Weddings helped win me over to have my wedding offsite. She is awesome. She answers all her emails quickly and with tons of information. I would feel so much more comfortable with her planning my wedding. The package that I am booking with Tropical weddings will include transportation roundtrip for my guests, FH and I to the ceremony location. I don't think it's too far from the resort. I'm not sure as to the exact distance from the resort. I also chose to go off the resort because I feel like I'm getting more for my money with Tropical Weddings. The package we are choosing will include more than what the Riu offers us for about the same price. I also think it will be nice to get our guests off the resort for a little while. Although if plans happen to change for some reason I wouldn't mind getting married at the resort. I've spoken to several people who have had their wedding there and were very pleased.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
