Hi Katrina,

I am getting married at the Riu in Nov. I loved your posts and they are like my bible. Can you tell me how much your welcome dinner cost you and also the marachi band.

Also, you said you had vows for Las Calatas would you share them with me? I am very nervous about planning this. I want it to be different and memorable for both of us and our families and friends.

What kinds of things did you put on your tables and in your loot bags?

Anything you would change or that I should watch out for at the Yucatan?

Thanks again for your great advise,

Tamasin

hi tamasin,

the welcome dinner was free. we just ate at the main buffet but had the restaurant reserve a section for us. the mariachi cost $559. expensive but i thought it was worth it and our guests loved it. we had centerpieces made from a vendor who makes fake real-touch flowers. if you send me your email address, i'll send you all of my wedding info.

1. We need a list with your guests names, arrival days and Hotel where they have their room reservations.

There are 24 people plus us. I've attached the list. OK 26 TOTAL

2. Which restaurant do you prefer Steak House 6:45 pm or 8:45pm or Mexicano 8:45pm?

(I have attached the menus)

Steakhouse at 6:45. What are the side dishes with the meals? Do you have pictures? WE DO NOT HAVE PICTURES AVAILABLE, YOU COULD FIND SOME AT Riu Hotels & Resorts

3: Cake : (Classic 10 included Royal 10 included and Caprice 15 included WP)

flavor: vanilla

Filling: strawberry

How big do you want the cake? please make the cake for 30 total people. we will pay for 20 extra slices. can you send a picture of the cake? do we have the cake at the dinner or at the ceremony? the cake is normally cut and served at dinner, you will be able to see pictures upon arrival at your wedding meeting. 20 extras x 6usd = 120 usd.

4. which wedding spot do you prefer?

For Riu Yucatán the options are:

Garden area - secluded, quiet and little bite private (until 25pax). OK

Hi Edith,

How will the tables be set up for dinner?

Also, I will need a small table for the guestbook.

What are the drinks served with dinner?

Dear Katrina,

1.- we have square tables 80 x 80 cm and we put them together to do rectangular tables of 10 people, no more.

2.- ok we will set an extra table for the guest book, please request it to your wedding coordinator at your wedding meeting upon arrival.

3.- Beer, wine and sodas.

Katrina to Weddings

Ok, so if there are 27 people how will the table be set up? will it be three long tables next to each other? can the tables be shaped like a "U"?

also, what is the actual name of the steakhouse?

Dear Katrina,

the name of the restaurant is La Margarita, and we could do a U shape.

Kind regards,

Edith*

Thanks Edith.

Can I hook up my Ipod to play music during dinner? It won't be loud.

Can we have a welcome party at one of the bars the night before the wedding?

Dear Katrina,

we do not have sound system at dinners, if you would like you could bring your IPOD nd speakers and try to deal directly with the Hotel since it is a Hotel policy and for us it is not possible to allowed you to do that.

In regards of the welcome cocktail you could check upon arrival where i the best place to have it and arrange i directly with the Hotel public relation Erik, if you would like we could arrange you a rehearsal dinner the night before of the wedding at the main restaurant 7pm buffet service.

Can I use artificial petals during the ceremony? You could use them at dinner but not at the open areas.

Can you send me the vows for the symbolic ceremony? You will be able to read them upon arrival during your wedding meting, this information can not be send by e mail.

Can you send me a song list for the mariachi band? they play mexican music, do you want an special song?, They could play a lot of mexican songs.

Thanks Edith.

We'd like to have a cocktail hour after the ceremony. What do you recommend for this?

Is there a certain bar that this is good for?

How much are hor'dourves? Can we do something simple like chips and salsa?

Dear Katrina,

We are going to arrange a cocktail time for you from 3:30 to 6.45 pm, at the lobby bar area, I have attached a list of the hor'dourves.

Or if you want I can offer you a big plate with Guacamole, chips and pico de gallo with an extra cost of 50 usd.

The cocktail time will be at El Patio is an are located in the lobby area beside the main restaurant La Hacienda.

Hi Edith,

If we are just doing the symbolic ceremony, can I see the vows before hand? I want to make sure that I agree with them. If there is something I don't agree with, can it be changed?

Also, do the wristbands come off easily for the photos?

Dear Katrina,

In the symbolic ceremony, you don´t exchange vows you just said I do, if you want to exchange vows, I recommend you to bring you owns and is not possible to change things for the ceremony.

If you want to exchange vows I recommend you the Religious ceremony, I have attached it.

The day of the wedding you two, your bridesmaids and groomsmen area allow to take off your wristbands.

Edith or Cynthia,

I hope you can help us and recommend the best ceremony. When we come to Mexico we will already be married but our guests do not know that and we have many people flying to Mexico to watch our ceremony. We want our ceremony to appear to be a real civil wedding but we do not need the legal paperwork. We also do not want anything too religious.

Is there anyway that we can have the same vows as the legal ceremony? We do not need the blood test or anything like that, but we do want the civil vows. We will be having 26 guests with us and we all want to hear those vows.

Please give me your best recommendation.

Dear Katrina,

In this case I recommend you to stay with the Religious ceremony cause for the symbolic the Judge does not speak English and they don´t allow us to do changes in the ceremony.

I recommend to stay with the Religious and if you want something especial just send me your program and I will pass it to the Minister so he can make changes or add things to the ceremony.

Hello!

Hope everything is going well!

1- We would like to have a rehearsal dinner the night before. There will be 25 of us. Which restaurant will this be in? What time?

2- For the ceremony, I would really like to have our guests toss something in the air as we walk down the aisle. Are fake petals allowed in the garden?

Or, we could use eco-fetti. It is biodegradable and will dissolve. It will not leave a mess. What do you think?

3- For the reception dinner, I have special name cards for the table. Am I able to give you a seating chart for the name cards? It will be very easy to understand.

Thanks!

Katrina

Edith,

One more question- we have one guest who will be coming from off the resort for the wedding. How much is a day pass? Do we just buy them at the front desk?

Dear Katrina,

The weddings pass has an extra cost of 45 usd he or she will be allow to come to the hotel one hour before the wedding until midnight a regular day pass will need to be arrange directly with the front desk upon arrival. A regular day pass is 80usd.

Thanks Katrina, my email address is [email protected]. Can you discuss flowers also. Do you have a wide variety. I was hoping for gerbia daisy but not sure if they offer them. I have been hesitant about the Yucatan and the reason is the beach. I have always wanted a beach wedding but reading your info I am changing the plans. Is the beach nice enough to enjoy as a guest? I see some pictures which I think might be dated were the beach is a mess. I am hoping no one is disappointed in our choice of locations.

thanks again,

Tamasin

i don't recommend this resort for a beach wedding. others may disagree with me, but it was too public and open. i like the privacy and lushness of a tropical garden. but the beach is great for lounging and swimming. our guests had no complaints.

Kara,

Hi, I am getting married at the Riu Yucatan in Nov. could you update me on any info you have for your wedding so far. I have not got anything from the hotel except the date and time. Where in the resort are you getting married? How many people are coming to your wedding? There seems to be very few of us at the Yucatan.

Thanks,

Tamasin

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
