How to help yellow nails

Recommended Posts

SUP YO!

I take care of my nails, always file them, give myself mani's, take care of cuticles, etc. I love doing my nails ;o) But for some reason, they have a yellowish tint to them and I can't go without nail polish. In fact, that might be WHY they are yellow b/c I have always had them painted sine I was a kid. I tried to help this years ago by using a clear base coat underneath b/c I heard that would help, but it didn't. I even tried letting them "air out" for months but it didnt work and I can't stand being without nail polish for too long. I even went as far as putting bleach and alil water in a bowl and dipping my hands in, umm not a good idea.

Do you go to the tanning bed? Often the lights will react with polish, even clear and make them yellow. If you use a bronzing lotion that can tint them as well.

My tanning bed sells this little things that look like rubber thimbles that go over your nails to keep them from turning.

Ahhh I didnt even think of that. I have gone tanning since HS (11 years ago) during the summer months. This year I went a few times before Carly's wedding for a base but have not gone since and am completely banning them. So maybe I will see a difference soon, ? And I do use self tanning lotions too! I wash my hands right after applying though, ?

I heard before that using denture cleaners would work. I even went so far as to buy a pepsodent (is that the right name brand??) package, but never actually used them. I think that best thing for yellow nails is to late them breath and they will grow out. And the clear base coat should help the color to not seep into your nails, but I don't think that will keep the yellow out.

You mean soaking my hands in denture cleaner? I'll try it.
How long should I let them breath, I dont have the patience.

Honestly, I have no clue! I would follow the directions for dentures and see how it goes from there. I also heard something about whitening toothpaste would work. But then again, I also heard bleach would work and it didn't for you! I don't even know where I heard all this crap!

Do you always use dark polish? Maybe try using a light colour polish and it would cover up your nails, but wouldn't stain them which is what dark polish can do...The other thing I was thinking, and this is kinda gross, but they say that sometimes if your nails are discoloured that you may have a fungus growing in your nailbed...but if it's all your nails I'm sure that wouldn't be the case...

I used to have this problem as well since I always had my nails polished and would change the color weekly. I haven't had the problem so much now as I usually leave my polish on for two weeks or until it is really starting to chip. If I do my own nails I always buff them with that nile flile block and they use a similar one at the salon, but theirs seems to work better. There is also a clear polish that you can use called Yellow Out. It makes your nails look really white. I don't know what brand it is by though. I used to put that on before having a french manicure or if I didn't have time to polish with a color since that is really the only time I go without. Soaking them in lemon juice is supposed to help too, but that never worked for mine.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
