Traveling with the Wedding Gown

Recommended Posts

Just got back from Jamaica and I laid my flat (along with 3 other brides) in one of the overhead bins.. No one else was allowed to put their stuff in the bin where our dresses and the mens suits were laying. This was a Transat flight from Halifax - Jamaica and it was awesome! Great service!!

This was something that I stressed about too before flying and I didn't have to at all! I flew American Airlines with my bright pink wedding dress bag and everyone was more than helpful to accomodate the garment bag. I had 4 flights (total round trip) and each time the flight attendant checking tickets noticed the dress and pointed me to the closet right when you get on the plane.

Also for those ladies looking for a garment bag for wedding dresses, I got mine on Amazon. They have a number of different colors!

You can store your wedding dress in the overhead bin provided it is within our carry-on baggage size restrictions (23 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm – 9 in x 15.5 in x 21.5 in). The dress should be stored in a garment bag and should be folded in half to reduce wrinkling. Please note that carry-on items can shift during the flight, possibly causing delicate items to be wrinkled, crushed or torn, and that items placed in overhead bins may have other items placed on top of them by other passengers.

You could always phone them just to double check.

I am also flying Air Canada and like the idea that you can have 1 carry on bag and 1 personal item to carry on. I plan on my wedding dress being the personal item, but I am also going to phone just to clarify.

Thanks Sunstarsmoon!  I appreciate it!  I wasn't sure if the same applied to us as its a Jazz flight and is a charter!  I contacted my TA just to make sure this is correct, and will keep you posted as well! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi ladies,

I flew with Air Canada earlier this month and they were very accommodating with my wedding dress. I had my purse and my wedding dress was my other personal item.

They let me lay it flat in one of the overhead compartments in first class, even though we were stuck in 'steerage' :) - my mom had been upgraded to first class, so as a worst case scenario we had already decided that we would have had her take it on as her carry-on item.

There were 2 other brides on the flight and I shared the compartment with one of them, while the other bride hung her dress upright in the closet.

Hope this helps!
J

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
