The cost depends on where you have it, the policies are the same no matter whether it's your reception dinner or welcome dinner or any other group dinner. The only free option is the buffet (your group will be aside in one section). All the other restaurants you have to pay 20$ per person (regular restaurant menu) or 55$ per person (silver menu) or 65$ per person (gold menu) plus you have to pay the 700$ fee if you want them to close the restaurant down for a private event (and this is only allowed depending on the resort capacity).

Most people who have had a welcome dinner have done it at the buffet.

There are very few past brides still on the forum, pretty much just me and a few brides who got married in the past couple months. I recommend you read the reviews to see what people did for welcome dinners (focus on the most recent reviews, i.e. the past 6 months or the past year). I know there are a few brides who talked about their welcome dinner in their reviews.

we were going to do this and Landy let me know we could do it at Portofino if we had less than 40 people. The charge was $20/per person and she set it up for me. You have to do a set menu for it and she was going to allow me to pick 2 entrees.
Here is the menu for the Portofino restaurant-we ate there one night and the food was so good! The Tiramsu for desert was AMAZING

If you're planning on doing a welcome dinner, there are two fiesta nights in the week - Tuesday and Friday. I recommend doing your dinner on one of these nights as the tables are set up in either 10 or 12 seats. If you get there right at 6pm you can take as many tables as you want and it's free!

Hi Jenny,
This is true. I had originally asked for all different coloured Calalillies. Apparently they only grow white calas in Mexico and the florist explained that they could import the colour ones from Holland $$$$$. So I then switched to all different colour lilies with white calalillies mixed in. My bridesmaids each had a small bouquet of whitel calas for $35 each. Here is what the florist told me they had available in terms of flowers and colours as the standard:

WE HAVE ROSES, YELLOW, ORANGE, WHITE, PURPLE, IVORY, PINK, RED.
LISIANTUS, WHITE, PURPLE AND PINK.
IRIS, WHITE AND PURPLE.
GERBER DAYSIS, YELLOW, ORANGE, WHITE, PURPLE, IVORY, PINK, RED.
LILIES, WHITE, YELLOW, ORANGE, PINK.
ALSTROMERIAS, RED, ORANGE, WHITE, PINK, YELLOW, DEPHINIUMS, WHITE AND BLUE.
BIRD OF PARADISE, ORANGE.
GINGERS, RED AND PINK.
MINI-ROSES, WHITE, RED, YELLOW, ORANGE, PINK, IVORY.
WHITE CALAS,

Wow, that is great info about the flowers they have available, a lot of girls have asked about that but we've never had such a complete answer before, thanks! I'll post this on page 1.

It's good to know that white callas are part of the package but that colored callas have a high extra cost, it helps to clarify some of the confusion about this.

I know for one of the first brides married on this forum, they died the callas and the color leaked! I guess they learned their lesson and don't do that anymore.

I used the resort DJ. We reserved him for 2 hours. Our dinner started at 6:30 and we had him reserved from 7:30 - 9:30. When we showed up at the reception he was set up already and played casual muic through dinner. Then we danced after dinner about 8-8:30 and danced until after 10. We were only charged for 2 hours too! We sent a playlist ahead of time and he played most of the songs. We had our first dance on the beach, people gave toasts, it was great.

We also had the mariachi band play at our cockatil hour that went from 5:30- 6:30. It was perfect! Our cocktail hour was at the lobby bar terrace. They played a special song for me and my now husband and we had to dance to it. It was really a great little piece of Mexico.

Hope this helps!

Katie

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
