dress shopping issues

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I am having such a hard time finding a wedding dress. I have been to six stores now and still have not found "the dress". Anyone else having this problem? I am getting married in PV in 2009 so I have plenty of time, but I am getting really frustrated. Any suggestions? I live in MN and a lot of the designers dresses I find online I can't find in store. Help! I am petite with a small figure no real shape so I need a dress that fits to the body and gives me hips and a bust (which I don't have). Most dresses just hang on me.

Thanks for your suggestions!

This may sound rediculous but, Before you try wedding dresses first make sure:

  • You've Eaten a good meal
  • Have had plenty of sleep
  • Are having a very low-stress day
  • Aren't on your period
  • Have PLENTY of time
  • Are ready to make it a fun experience!

If you go when you are not having a very good day, or you are an emotional mess from your period, or are rushed, hungry, or tired DON'T GO WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING! If these things are taken care of and you still can't find a dress then I say it hasn't been the right time yet. The Universe is funny how it works, and there is indeed a "Perfect" dress for you and your body type, you just have to go at the right time. Think positive and your dress will find you :)

Have you tried on different style dresses? A-line, mermaid, sheath, princess, etc? If there is a style you like, it helps to narrow down THE dress, and it may not be what you first thought you'd like. Then I'd just say go to every store in your area and try on anything you think you might like. If you still haven't found something perfect, custom is definitely an option!

I would say to go dress shopping without having something specific in mind. Try things on that you might not like on the hanger. You'll be surprised at how different things look when you put them on and may wind up with something that is the exact opposite as what you thought you would get.

I'm from MN and had the same issues. Have you been to Brides of France? Both of their locations (Edina and Uptown) have different selections. They have some unique and amazing dresses! That's where I bought my veil and it's so simple and gorgeous! It's actually my favorite part of my wedding attire. I also found great shoes there. How about Glenrose Florals to Formals in Plymouth? Glenrose isn't the greatest as far as interior decor, could be cleaned up a bit, but they have a big selection of dresses at reasonable prices.

I had the same problem. I went dress shopping... hmm.. probably 20 times. No joke.

I started in MN (Macy's and some place down town that was horrid) then moved to AZ, and I had decided that all of the AZ bridal stores didn't have anything I wanted. I went to them all, and they all had the same dresses.

I went home for easter, and my mom thought we should go out shopping again. We went to a store in Stillwater, called Raffine Bridal. I would HIGHLY suggest you go there. They have all sorts of dresses. Simple, intricate, mermaid, strapless, etc.

They will also pin the dresses for you so you can get a really good idea of what it really looks like.

Thanks. I will check them out for sure. The problem is, is that I have a vision in my mind. I might even do a dress on loan from Winnie Couture just b/c no stores carry this line in MN. I want something that is elegant but not a lot of beading and I don't want a train. But not finding it.... I'll keep looking.

Thanks for all the input.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
