Oh no!! :o(  I would def call your TA and tell her she is going to lose a LOT of business if she doesn't adjust the rate.  If you are planning on a lot of guests, this could be a big deal to her!  I know that them booking elsewhere isn't helping you AT ALL, but the "threat" in general may force your TA to change her rates?  Good luck!! Let us know how you make out!

I know exactly how you feel! I spent a TON of time researching to try and find the best rate and finally went just went directly through the resort. I talked to a travel agent who didnt quote me anything better. I did see some deals on orbitz including flight and room that were slightly cheaper but when you figured in the airport to hotel transfers it ended up being about the same, maybe like $30 difference depending on the number of nights. My guests are staying different numbers of nights so it was hard to figure out what was best for everyone and then I wouldnt have got the group benefits. Anyway, after all that I still had people complain that it was too expensive and that they could get it cheaper on their own. My FI lied to some of his family and told them they only got the vacation dollars if they booked through our link haha. So far I think I have managed to convince everyone except one couple and Im not even sure if they will come at all. Hope it works out for you!

I actually only had one couple that mentioned the possibility of booking on their own because they are travel "deal seekers".  I was honest with them and told them if they really wanted to book on their own that it would be no problem for them, but that we get benefits for our group booking based on how many people book with our TA -- like the free cocktail hour -- and after explaining that she didn't mind at all booking with my TA.  I know it is easier said than done in some cases, but it might be worth a shot?

Thanks ladies.  You helped calm me down a bit.  I sent the package example to my TA and she said that they will try to match any package deal that any of my guests find.  So hopefully it all works out and my guests still try to book thru her.  I even realized that fiance and I can save a good amount of money doing it ($1000+)....that is crazy.

The one girl who brought this to my attention happens to be a bridesmaid and is a travel deal seeker just like me.  Well it didn't go over too well when we were discussing it yesterday and now there is some tension between us.  She also decided to vent and tried to make me feel bad saying she is putting off having a baby because of my wedding and she cant believe that I am asking her to pay more when I know funds are tight right now.  Ugghh  drama already LOL!!

I am so thankful I have you ladies to come talk to.  XOXO

Yuck!  I am so sorry.  I am hoping that I don't have any guests do that.  So far, it is all good and everyone is booking throught the TA.  That is good that your TA will adjust the prices for anything that is found on-line, it only makes sense.  :)

Your travel agent should DEFINITELY match any price your guests find...we had people book 9 months prior and we had 1 guest book 3 days prior, it didnt matter when they booked, whatever the best deal was at that time of them booking, my travel agent matched it...b/c she knew how much business she was getting...also, not sure if you guys are aware of this, but i read in fine print somewhere that travel agents get 20% if you book a wedding package through ASP...i didnt book a package, i did everything seperate...but if you are booking one, she will also be making $ off of that, so again, she should def accomodate you...Im definitely a deal seeker too, ill spend hours online looking for the best price for something, so I understand when other ppl do it too, we did have some guests think that they found a better deal but then once it was explained about the transportation being included and all taxes, they understood...as far as your bridesmaid drama, try to just let it pass...with time, things cool down...she shouldnt have stressed u at all, this is your time, not hers...as far as waiting to be pregnant..thats ridiculous...my cousin, and bridesmaid, was going to wait just so she could drink and have a good time, but she wound up getting preganant...yet, at 5 months pregnant, she still traveled to Mexico for me and still had a great time...if someone wants to be there for you then they will be...good luck with everything! :)

Wow!!!  That is just awful :o(  I can't believe she would push that on you!!  One of my bridesmaids (my sister-in-law) is due about a month before we leave, and I have another girl who was going to be a bridesmaid who can't come because she found out she is due like the week of our wedding.  If she wants to get pregnant, GET PREGNANT! lol  You CAN be pregnant in Mexico!  :o)  haha

I'm thankful I have you all too!!

Yea I couldn't believe she went that far to put that on me.  I told her the same thing..."if you want to get pregnant go for it...dont push that off for me".  I told her we will have other pregnant woman and guests with small children so its not a big deal but she seems to think it would be unsafe or would be putting her baby in danger by going to a foreign country.  I laughed at that comment and just moved on.

Thanks for all the support girls.

So....I joined the bandwagon and I am hiring an outside photographer. I just dont get a good vibe from the photography department at our resort. I have been dealing with them for the past few days and they are rude and completely unproffessional. i have decided to cancel my wedding package and buy everything that I want separately (ie fireworks, horse carriage ride, soloist). Is everyone else just buying their photographer a day pass? Anyone worried about it?

Yep, I'm just putting them on my outside guest list.  I'm not even going to tell them I'm hiring an outside photographer, I'm just going to add him to the list and pay for his day pass.  I've heard they don't ask any questions, so I'm going with that.  Did you decide who you are going with yet!?

I'm going with the a la carte option with my wedding as well.  We are just paying for the carriage and harpist!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
