I have the same problem with my nails--- (and I crack my knuckles too)... Then, add in really dry hands and mis-shapen index finger nails (they curl under on one side only), and you have the mental image of my hands...

Pre-natal vitamins are great too for hair and nails....

I'll probably go with fake nails for the wedding and then cut them off afterward. I hate the idea of spending the money for bi-weekly manicures if I'm not certain it's going to work and then wind up having to get fakes anyways....

How funny....my left thumb nail curves in on both sides.....When I wear acrylics, they start to lift (I think because of this)....Drives me crazy!

I know the feeling. I really think that you should start no later than April. I'd start with bi-weekly manicures and then increase to weekly.

I started a while ago and definately saw a difference. I suffer from really dry hands so I even had to mosturize with olive oil. I have seen then stopped my regimine but I plan to start in April as well.

I am keeping my nails short, but I really want them to look nice and healthy. I also think that I am forgoing the traditional french manicure and just opting for a blush pink color (i.e. Essie brand or OPI bridal collection)

tammy - the more i learn about you the more i really think we are related! i have awful nails, just awful, they're thin and flakey - they don't break, they bend and peel - and they're flat. and when they grow even as long so they reach the end of my finger, they kind of bend and curve. it's ugly. and a couple of them have a permanent ridge in them.

my mom and sis have perfect nails (and teeth!), but not dad and i.

i plan on getting acrylics - i've done it before (my 1st wedding) and it worked. i won't maintain them, but there's no way i will have nice looking hands on my own. and i know they're not good for your nails - but there's really not much you can do to harm these nail.

oh yea, i have super dry skin too. i don't bite my nails (unless they're peeling already and bugging me), but the stupid cuticles are always flaking and driving me insane!

tammy, go for a good manicure every 2 weeks

it will strengthen your nails and having them regularly filed will keep them looking nice instead of having them grow all wonky on you

it doesn't take long to grow your nails to a decent length and regular manicures will keep your nails nice and healthy

Try Nailtiques (sp?). It's just a clear coat but it makes nails so strong. It's expensive ($18 a bottle) but it really works. They sell it at beauty supply places for sure. Our Walgreens has it too. There are different numbered formulas - one for repair, one to maintain once you get them strong. I've been using it for over 10 years.

Here is some info. The logo at the top is what the package looks like.

Hey Tammy!

I agree, start going to get your manicures now and go about every two weeks. I am not going to do acrylics for the wedding, but want to have healthy looking not too long nails. I'm starting now, I figure that by the time June rolls around, I should be in pretty good shape.

Also, you might want to pick up some cuticle conditioner - it's usually just a little tube and if you put it on daily you should see some great results.

Stop cracking your knuckles - I know easier said that done. :-)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
