Ok, so FI and I watch National Geographic a lot. I've been seeing commercials for this new show they have, it's called "Locked Up Abroad". It's a whole show dedicated to people who get locked up in other countries. They even say that it may keep you from traveling.

NOT a show I plan to watch - EVER!

ha ha. I also watch a lot of Nat Geo and have seen the show a few times. Actually, I was dumb enough to watch the locked up abroad:mexico! the night before we took the flight for our site visit. Fi was laughing at me as he sat on the computer.

The reality is that the show is about people that made really dumb choices such as smuggling drugs. Prison anywhere is scary- but each one that I have watched is about 2 buddies that decided to take $30,000 and a free vacation in paradise to bring back a "package". They are all remorseful and are talking about their experience prior and during their prison time. It's more sad than scary I guess.

actually this show is really interesting.. i've seen mexico, peru, colombia and venezuela. and just like what was said above- it's not like these people are being arrested for shoplifting or something. it's serious cocaine smuggling. but it's interesting nonetheless because it's usually americans and brits that they document who started out on a nice vaca and were somehow manipulated into doing something illegal.

Have you seen Broken Down Palace? Same idea- they were convicted (if that's what you want to call it since I don't think a trial was involved) of smuggling some drugs as well. They were "innocently" duped though. The bellboy stuffed it in their luggage. Anyways- the movie scared the CRAP out of me.

My FI loves Nat Geo and we have watched Locked Up Abroad a couple of times. Its not really scary if you consider that these people make a rational decision to bring "packages" back with them. Its not really like Bridget Jones' Diary where its someone you know or someone puts it in your luggage like Rachel said, mostly its just kids trying to make some money, they should just know better, no one is going to pay you money to do something innocent.

I did see broken down palace and it made me paranoid!! I think that's why this show on Nat. Geo is bugging me...but, as everyone said it's not really innocent people...so maybe I'll check it out. I was just afraid I might start picturing my aunt Mary all locked up in a jail in cancun LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
