Bringing your fiance dress shopping?

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I do everything together as well, but we both wanted the dress to be a surprise for him. I just showed him some magazines before I went shopping to get some ideas of what he liked.

I personally don't want my FI seeing my wedding dress before the wedding day but it all depends on the relationship of the bride & groom. If it's important he be part of the special decision making process, then definitely go for it and enjoy that special moment - it's all part of the wedding planning process and once in a lifetime thing! :)

My fiancé was there for the dress .. and for all the fittings... it didn't bother me at all .. I wanted his opinion because it's the only one that matters, he was still surprised the day of .. with the hair makeup and accessories ... it didn't stop him from shedding a tear when he saw me come down the aisle.. actually more like a few tears :o)

It really is different for everyone. Some brides love the "reveal" to most of the guests and especially to the FI. Some brides don't need that. I'm definitely in the former category =D I don't think there is really a wrong answer

It's different for everyone, but I think you should let your own feelings and beliefs decide for you, not cultural expectations. Just because some don't like the idea does not mean it's wrong to do it, as is the case with most things in life. I love the idea of shopping for my dress with my fiancé, because I shop all the time with my friends and want this experience to be different and more about us as a couple. I haven't purchased it yet, but I am set on a particular dress, and Amy has seen it. She's happy to know what it looks like, but says she prefers not to see me in it till the wedding day. There's a big difference between seeing it in an ad on a stranger or empty on a hanger, versus seeing me, the person she loves, in it with my hair and make-up done, ready to get married. She has not shopped for a dress yet, but says she definitely wants me there, despite some friends telling her she should keep it a surprise. She hates shopping for dresses/anything other than super casual clothing, and she wants me there to make her feel comfortable and keep her from getting too moody when she's sick of trying things on and frustrated, should that happen. She also trusts me more than anyone else to give her my opinion honestly, without trying to control what she ends up with or recommend what I really want for myself. It is up to her whether or not she tells me outright which dress she chooses, or whether she narrows it down to a few and then has me walk away. I'm sure it will come down to how she feels in the moment and how many/few dresses she likes. If she only loves one, of course I'll know. Either way, we're both happy with the decision to shop together. We plan to have friends along, too, but more so because it'll be fun rather than for their approval of our choices.

I like hearing all the different takes on this issue....to each their own.  This is such a personal experience for everyone, and it really is best to go with your gut and do it your own way :)

    • we ended up using Facebook messenger when we were in Mexico - the hotel had free wifi and at least 1 person from each family/couple had FB on their phone already - it was pretty easy to communicate among guests "hey, we're heading to the beach bbq for lunch." or "everyone is hanging at the small pool today".  a plus was that some people tried to get a hold of me via FB on the day of the wedding and I was totally not checking my phone - they were asking if the wedding was outside given the rain forecast, thankful my mom, MOH and a few other friends were on the group and could respond for me :)

    • Hi Everyone, So, I was cleaning out my closet and realized that I never sold off my extra wedding OOT bag stuff from our wonderful DW.   46 Daily Spanish for Dummies 30 Pool colored OOT fabric bags - approximately 13in x 13in. They lay flat.  I used them for our wedding and they were perfect for everything we needed to fit in each bag. There’s a slight shade variation in the group; I’m guessing some were cut from a different bolt of fabric.  They are also a little wrinkled from storage and will probably be wrinkled from shipping. I have three additional ones, but they somehow got something on them (likely toddler related). If needed, I can try to wash it out and send those as well.
    • I’m getting married in six months to my foreign girlfriend. I was advised by a friend that one of the things I need to do before saying I do is to get a prenuptial agreement. Basically it’s supposed to protect my assets and properties in case my relationship with my future wife goes down the drain. I don’t know though if this is an acceptable practice when marrying Kiev ladies. I don’t want to do it if it would be insulting on her end. I need advice on this. Please help me.
