coloured dress panic

Recommended Posts

Ok, so this is my second marriage, my fiance's first. I got married really young the first time around, and did the whole big wedding, white dress thing. I knew that this time, i wanted to get a colored dress (i just feel something colorful suits me better!), but what i initially had in mind was something very pale blue or aqua in a light flowy chiffon.

what i bought is this...

Blue Long Gowns by BCBG MAXAZRIA

i tried it on and fell in love with it. i swear it is the only article of clothing i have ever tried on that looked better on me than on the model! (Usually i just feel like a sausage...This was very obviously designed for a busty girl such as myself!!!) The fabric is a really nice, cool jersey, and it just feels so good against my skin. The color looks great with my blue eyes and made me immediately think of the ocean. And even though i am working out like a fiend trying to get in shape for the wedding, it makes me feel beautiful and slim!

Anyway, the problem is, now i am starting to panic because i am afraid the color is too dark for a wedding. crybaby2.gif

So what do you ladies think? Should i look for a different - more "wedding appropriate" dress?

My MOH and family say it is fine and if i love it, i should wear it. But are they just telling me that because they don't want to upset me?

It's absolutely beautiful!!! I personally think it's perfect & that you should wear it!!!

If you are happy with how it looks and how it feels, then go for it!!! No matter how many people tell you it looks great it doesn't matter unless you feel amazing in it! I don't think they're trying to spare your feelings, I think they honestly like it & want you to be happy in what you wear!!

PS - if you have a pic of yourself in the dress I'd love to see it!

I think it is a beautiful dress. If you feel good in it, it will translate into every other area of your wedding. You will be smiling in all of the pictures, not tugging at straps, etc.

The thing to remind yourself is that there really are no rules or traditions for destination weddings. I will say (based on my own opinions only) that most of us chose DWs because we wanted something that was more relaxes and personal than the "big white wedding".

I think #1 priority should be doing what is best for you and your FI, no one else.

Are you worried your FI won't like the dress? Can you casually ask him how he feels about a "non-traditional, colored gown"?

I think you can make it look very "bridal" with a bouquet of white flowers, a pretty hair flower or sparkly clip, and some jeweled shoes.

thanks... i just joined, and i guess i was starting to feel a bitsmile41.gif after seeing all the threads with everyone having very light, more "appropriate" looking dresses! i started thinking "what have i done? should i go for the white eyelet look, and at least TRY to look like a bride?"

I don't actually have the dress in my possession yet - but will post pics as soon as it arrives! They did not have the colour i wanted in stock in my size, so i ordered it on-line. Just as well, because i got it for half of what i would have paid in the BCBG store in Vancouver! And it ended up being less than 10% of what i had originally budgeted for my outfit... my fiance loved that part, until i told him now i could just spend more on shoes! cheer2.gif

btw - you guys are awesome... i am so glad i joined here!

thanks everybody - i guess i just needed some unbiased opinions. You know how it is, sometimes you need to hear from people who don't know you - because they aren't as concerned about hurting your feelings, or telling you what they think you want to hear!

As soon as the dress arrives, i will post some pics of me in it.

Oh- i forgot to respond to the question about what my FI will think... i actually think he will love it too, so that is definitely not a concern. I guess i was just more worried about what the "wedding" pics will look like... but i think you are all right - If i FEEL good in it, that is the most important thing.

Thanks, i feel better now. smile03.gif
