We are going with the Blueberry package and adding on the beach reception/dinner because we don't really need all the extra stuff in the Strawberry Package.  I asked my WC (Xhail) what happens when the weather turns and if we can be put somewhere under shelter outside instead of the banquet room, and she replied no...that the back-up is a banquet room and the extra cost of the beach dinner in NON-refundable.  This is a bummer.... sad.gif

Also - she forwarded me the "Banquet Room Menu" and I'm not exactly sure if there is a "Beach Reception Menu"?? Does anyone know if this is there are different menus?

Hey ladies, so I got an answer as to why we were not offered playa azul for our ceremony. Here is what I was told " Yes it is available, the thing is that we are redesigning the maya beach hotel where playa azul is and the bus is not able to take you to the beach, the bus can leave at the Caribe hotel and then you should walk to get to playa azul, if this is fine for you; you can have the ceremony at playa azul, it is like less than 10 minutes walking. " So my question for y'all is, is the walk from the caribe too far to have my guests walk or not really? It had been years since we were there so I don't really remember just how far it was. Also, recent brides. Was the "construction" at the maya beach hotel something that would get in the way of pictures or be noisy?? Thank you!

Congrats on your wedding!! What location did you get married at?? We're set to get married and have our reception at Playa Azul in 2 weeks, and there has been lots of confusion on whether or not the Palapa was still standing-- do you happen to know if it is or not?

Thank you! I don't think the Palapa is there anymore... we got married at playa azul and paid for an arch there.

I believe that the menu is set for the package you pay for but if you can upgrade to a beach reception I don't know if you get a different menu with that.

I would say the walk is likely much less than 10 minutes, if you are up along the front walkway where the beach is, from the far back rooms it may be a bit of a walk but entirely do-able. I guess it depends on ages of guests and health. I seem to be opposite of everyone on here as I didn't want my reception at Playa Azul because it was so far away from the Palace and I didn't care to have myself or my guests bussed around.

Hey ladies!

Forgive me if I am bringing up questions that have recently been discussed; I checked 10 or so pages back for some of this info, but couldn't quite figure it all out :)

Hubby to be and I have been trying to narrow resorts down, and although Barcelo maya tropical is gorgeous, I am seeing quite high prices for packages, even  though they only include like 20 people for the most part!

Questions/Reflections are as follows:

1. Anyone have a barcelo maya tropical (or barcelo location in MR/playa) wedding for around 40-50 people? And if so, what pckg did you go with?

- We likely have 40 (at least) coming to ours in early 2014. Right now, even the strawberry package ($3675!!?) includes a reception for only 20 guests.

2. What additional costs are associated with guests over the # included in the package? E.g. Take the Mint Breeze - 20 guests, $2310...

3. Has anyone taken the FREE (includes NO COCKTAIL OR DINNER) OR BLUEBERRY DREAM PACKAGE (includes ONLY cocktail hour) AND ADDED A RECEPTION TO IT?

- Often taking a cheaper package means having less "extras" that we don't really care to have. Sometimes adding things "a la carte" can save overall costs. Any thoughts on this?

4. What has been anyone's experience with having an outdoors reception rather than in a ballroom? I personally don't want to be completely indoors during my DW, but inside venues seem most popular offers on their packages.

Any and all advice for looking into Barcelo maya tropical would be SO appreciated ladies!

Hey MrsShoreytobe! I was married at the Barcelo, most of our guests stayed at the Tropical and a few stayed at the Palace where we did, we loved this option to stay at different priced resorts. What I found when looking at packages and resorts was that Barcelos packages are a little bit more money but the cost for a trip there was much cheaper than say something like the Now resorts or other beautiful resorts. Our guests paid $1483 (tropical) and $1719 for the palace for a week, prices at other resorts were over $1800-$2500 per person. These more expensive resorts seemed to have wedding packages that were much cheaper. My hubby and I chose to pay more for our package and let people have to pay less for their trips. We figured that we wanted more people to join us instead of people not coming because the price was too high and as it was our wedding we would pay the cost associated with the wedding package and dinner, etc. we would have had to pay for our reception in Calgary anyways. We had to pay $64 or so per person over the 15 people included in the Strawbery package. I went with that package because of the outdoor reception and it was AMAZING and I think worth every penny. I refused to be put in a banquet hall even when it threatened rain, lol! I know it may sound like a lot of money for a meal but I didn't think $64 per person was bad for a private dinner on the beach that included surf and turf (that was what we chose for our entree) This was what we went with but I know other brides have gone with other packages and done adjustments to them. The good options are also different for the different packages as well. I have the strawberry menu options if you want to see them. Let me know if you want more info on anything else!

Thanks

It is a 2 night stay during some times of the year and 3 nights at other times (which is what I had to do this May). It was still cheaper for us than the $500. :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
