lol, we do have a rehearsal at the Mass but not a full on Rehearsal Dinner with invites and we go to a restaurant afterwards and so on. The closest thing to this was when my Bro and SIL got married, we went to their house to discuss little details for the wedding an hung out, but not a full blown RD.

well I am happy for you and James. Yes have something lite at the in laws or even in the church if possible. If the family wants to do something later then they can you and James would not be obligated (I dont think) to host anything else.

Good luck let me know if I can do something. You can use my dress if you wish I wont need it any time soon

Oh Glenda I am so happy you are getting married! I wish I had something to offer you but sadly I'm way too far away from my own wedding to do that. I definitely think your FIL's are expecting WAY too much for what they're offering $$ wise. Why don't you just do the luncheon reception after the church (especially if you can agree on a cheaper restaurant!). I think that would be great :)

Regardless, I know everything will work out and of course you know we all heart you!!!! You have been there for all of us and I hope I can return the favor somewhat - so, if there's anything I can do please let me know.

I say you borrow all the dresses offered to you & do multiple outfit changes. We should send you all the starfishes too. With all that craziness no one will notice they weren't fed :)

I vote for this 2!! Cheeky buggers you've changed your plans for them, don't bend anymore or you will never end up having a life.

Mind don't do a me!! I go the opposite way now and I can't bear to be in the same room as them lol

You'll get it sorted you're resourceful - look at it in a different perspective. If this was one of your PI cases you would be logic, methodical, and ruthless - it works for me lol

Hi Glenda!!! This is so exciting!

Okay, so you've got about 15 offers of dresses, a couple of veils, music, and even a groom.

I don't have much more to offer, but I am in the area and can make a mean cocktail or carry a tray of hors d'oeuvres! So if you need a bartender and/or wait staff, I'm your girl.

I'm also a very good cook, so if you decide you want to go the DIY meal route, count me in to serve as soux chef!

            Happily married since 2008

I hope im not too late in this discussion. My family is huge and when someone gets married (at home in a catholic church) everyone gets together and help out in someway. Largely they help out with the reception. When my aunt got married, after the wedding everyone went to the church's hall and ate and danced. The food was catered by the family and served buffet style (it was yummy of course because it was "Family" cooking). There was a cake cutting, people danced and everyone went home.
Since your family and FI family was influential in your decision to cancel the DW, I would certainly hope that they would be willing to throw the reception for you in lieu of showers, brunches, and other stuff.

              What do you think?

I think this is a great idea. I have heard of a couple of weddings just recently where the food was 'pot luck' style. I spoke with a couple of people who were guests at weddings like this and they all thought it was a great idea rather than anyone going into debt to host a wedding. I understand that this might not be a popular idea, or a traditional one, but I think it could be considered?

A solution to the cost of rentals which can be very costly is to use disposable plates and cutlery, which is cheaper.
