Dress Sizing for BM dresses

Recommended Posts

Bridal wear is ridiculously TINY! I have some vent thread somewhere about that.

The first time I tried on wedding dresses I was a tad heavier than I am now. My street clothes were a 12-14. I am extremely busty, no matter how fat or thin I am. Some of the dresses I had to try on to get them to zip were 20 and 22! I honestly think was why I waited to long to buy a dress! I was terrified of the number! I ended up ordering a 16 but the last time I went to the store to try on the sample the 14 zipped! I'm sure I'll have to drop another grand on alterations! I think I've blow my budget on this dress!

Honestly Glenda, I stop looking at labels. They just depres me. Just tear if off when it comes in! Its so funny, when I was trying on Bridal dresses, all these skinny girls had to get pinned in their dress. Since sample dresses are ordered "big" if fit into most, lol. The dress I bought was a 12, I'm a street size 8.

Yeah I was a 12-14 in street clothes at the time I ordered the dress. They ended up ordering an 18 for me. It just made me really depressed. That's awesome that the 14 zipped I would have been deliriously happy!

Normally I don't care about sizes. I'm fat so I'm used to not being a small size. I think it upest me more b/c for whatever reason the bride (NEMESIS) wants all of us to do the first fitting together. Most of the BM's are zero's or two's and I know my dress will look ginormous next to theirs'. I want to at least be smaller than the size they ordered for me. Uggh I am not looking forward to this at all!

When you guys go in for the dresses, wont they be in plastic dress bags? Inside the bag, they will all look the same, right? Then you can go into the dressing room, get the dress on, and look just as stunning, if not more stunning than some size 0 sticks. Let them be jealous of your curves!punk.gif

No offense to size 0's, just the ones that are making her nervous!

Jamie thanks for the confidence boost! That was super nice of you. hug2.gif I hope they come in those plastic dress bags and they call them out by name and not size! Okay now I feel much better. Thanks.

My BMs dresses just had a plastic bag over them- much like the dry cleaners. However, they did have their names on them- not their sizes. Could you imagine- "We got a size 18 dress. Who's the 18?" I would seriously hide in the corner.

No worries Glenda. I had to order my dress in a 16. I wanted to cry myself to sleep every night. It came in and it was too big. The day of the wedding I had a hard time getting it to fit on the top since it was a corset back. My sister had to lace me up so the sides touched eachother. If I had lost more weight there would have been no way to make it fit since it was as tight as it could go!

Fortunately (ha!) I gained four pounds on the honeymoon. It probably fits perfect now.

You know people want to look perfect on their wedding day? Well my sick in the head dream is to be so emaciated (we're talking Mary-Kate Olsen skinny) that the dress just drapes on me like I'm a hanger. I would love for it to be so huge that it looks like a tent. Yes I am demented but when your fat these are the things you think about. LOL.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
