ROYAL PLAYA DEL CARMEN BRIDES: were kids allowed for the day? ...and other questions

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone! We are having a reception on the beach at 7 pm at The Royal and we are paying $50.00 per person. That gets you a plated meal, dance floor, and personal bartender. We initially did not plan on doing this but we decided it would be a nice surprise for our guests and that it would be worth it. You get a private spot on the beach until midnight.

MY WC said they have up to 4 weddings a day - but i don't think they ever do that many. I don't think its an issue - i was concerned about that too at first. But i have sent in my booking form for May 2nd, 2009! I am so excited!

I am still searching to find the right place! We have guests with kids, and a lot of resorts I liked won't allow kids. Royal seems to let kids in for the wedding, so I have contacted them for available dates in Dec.

Does anyone have any suggestions to which resorts would be a good choice that allows kids to attend the wedding and reception other than Royal?

I had the exact same problem w/ a lot of the resorts I liked. In the end, I decided on the Royal b/c they allow children for the wedding day and children can stay right next door at their sister property, the Gran Porto Real (and I love the property and its location right off 5th ave).

You could also check into Dreams Cancun and Dreams Tulum, which allow children.

Thanks Heidi! That is very helpful. I have contacted them via e-mail, but haven't had the response on available dates yet. How did you contact them? phone? Do you have a wedding coordinator you are working with?

Also, I think I read one of your posts saying that you are coming from Toronto... I have family members coming from Toronto, and I was wondering how you booked everything... did you use a travel agent?

THANKS!

Hi Anna,

Initially we spoke to the WC at the Royal over the phone, but then moved to email. I started out talking w/ Paty (the old WC), but am now emailing w/ Zulma, the current WC at the Royal. Her email address is [email protected]

We didn't use a travel agent to book, but did our own booking online. We did talk to a few travel agents, but were able to find better prices ourselves online.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm leaving two weeks today for my wedding (yikes!) so let me know if you or any of the other girls need me to look into anything. I'll also be sure to post a review and pics when we get back.

Heidi! Congratulation! you are getting married in two weeks!!!!! Thank you so much for all the info. I really appreciate it, and I am looking forward to your review after the wedding!

If you don't mind me asking, I was wondering what other resorts that allows kids, have you considered, and why you decided to go with the Royal... Did you do a site visit? In your opinion do you think it is a necessary step to take?

Thanks and Congratulations again!!!

Hi Anna,

I looked at pretty much every 4 1/2 - 5 star in the area through TripAdvisor. I looked at Dreams Cancun and a few others in Cancun, but my preference was for a smaller place like Playa del Carmen. I know a lot of girls have done site visits and have found them really helpful. I personally didn't do a site visit nor have I been to Playa del Carmen (although I have been to Mexico and have travelled a lot). To me it's more exciting this way, but that's just a personal preference. A lot of girls prefer going and checking into a few properties.

I would suggest emailing Zulma again to see about the date you are interested in or perhaps phoning. The communication hasn't been the best and I find you do have to persist a bit w/ emails or be quite patient.

The main reason I decided on the Royal was that it was a five star that I loved the look of and had excellent reviews, and w/ the option of kids being next door. I loved the look of a few other properties, but they were mostly adults only, which didn't work for me. Having the sister property next door that allows children (and children for the wedding day at the Royal) was a big draw for me. Another big plus for me was the location right by 5th ave and the fact that the beach doesn't seem to have the erosion problems that I read about for some others.

Hope that helps!

Heidi

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
