FI wants to wear a kilt...ON THE BEACH!

Yeah - my fiance is scottish (parents are from/he was born in the states) wants to wear his kilt as well. the problem (other than the fact that it is a KILT ON A BEACH) is that it is hard to get rental kilts that are authentic in the US. So, while FI has his own kilt, it is nearly impossible to find ones for the groomsmen. Now, he wants the grooms men to be in suits and he in the kilt. I'm putting my foot down there. That will look ridiculous.
Also, you do need to be able to support the heritage part to wear a clan's tartan. From what I've been told (from my soon to be scottish relatives) is that you typically wear the clan from your mother's maiden name. Although, I do know that there are rentals that have some basic tartans - celtic pride and others.
I do think kilts look great on men, however - just not on the beach!

Good luck with this one! I would not be happy if Ryan said that he was going to wear a kilt. Maybe he is just messing with you?!?!?

My fiance suggested that he may want to wear a kilt too but he is only like 1/4 Scottish. I told him go for it.
I'm kind of partial - I swear - in my past life I think I was Irish! I LOVE bagpipes, kilts - the whole shebang!
Anyhow, I can empathize with you in the disagreement over what he will wear. My FI has threatened to wear some colors I absolutely disagree with.
So - on that note I would tell him what CarrieRN said - he has to be a certain percent Scottish and that wearing a Kilt on your wedding day would make him a fraud and people would be laughing at him.
Plus he would be sweating his balls off - literally!

you should make a pro/cons list for him...or tell him to make it...make sure he includes beach wedding, hot, sand, and sandy butt on the cons list.

however, i say give him a few weeks and if he brings it up again, tell him what jason said: the bride and groom cant both wear dresses.
i come from a heavily irish family, but beach and kilts just DONT mix.

But, I'd let him know that maybe you're not fully behind the kilt thing, and bring up a few reasons - heat, what plaid, the real significance of kilts (do some research first), etc.
Maybe you can dissuade him (because it sounds like its a bit of a random thought to him right now), but I'd act fast before the kilt thing takes hold.
