Why I hate when it rains in Los Angeles

That's because they have a monsoon season in AZ! Like it will be completely dry & then these big clouds will swoop in, dump some rain & POOF! Everything is flooded & roads turn into rivers. It's crazy!

Welcome to the wild wild west! LOL When you don't get regular rain you don't know how to act when you get some. Some people drive really fast and dangerously, and some people drive really slow and dangerously. I feel your pain, I was raised in the rain so it irks me to no end!

I know, it's like people have never seen water falling from the sky before! I live in the same neighborhood as you so you know I feel your pain! It's actually really weird to me that no one remembers how to drive in rain. It seems like the vast majority of people who move to LA are from other (read: colder and wetter) places, like me and you. We still remember how to drive in rain... why don't they?

Tara another thing about the desert is that the ground literally cannot accept the water, it just flows on top of it. I have always tried to explain this to my students here and they just don't get it. That is part of the reason for floods.

 

Jamy and other LA girls, do you remember the El Nino year, it was my senior year 1999 we had so much rain that year, there was constant flooding. LA and all of So Cal was drenched for the entire winter and no one knew what to do with it. I had just moved there and I thought it was funny that so many people didn't know what to do in weather because I lived in snow my whole life.

When I first moved here in 1997 it was during El Nino, and it was crazy hot well into October then it rained for months, it was the weirdest thing ever. There was almost a hurricane bit it didn't hit the shore! I thought it was normal but it didn't really rain again until 1999. That was when there would be multi-car accidents on the freeways almost daily, I remember it well. It hasn't rained like that since, just spurts here and there.

Isn't that the truth! Our backyard is currently flooded! It's like we have mini rivers and lakes in our backyard. The water is starting to creep up towards the sliding glass door.... lets hope it doesn't make it that far!!! On an up note, our dogs think it's the greatest thing ever, they are having a ball tromping through the water.

sandbags are a good trick, I hope your house doesn't flood. Glad the dogs are enjoying it though.

I totally remember El Nino. Everyone thought it was a joke since they talked about it so much and then whammo it hit. I lived in Newport (no drainage) and the streets totally flooded...it was insane.
