Has anyone used Anna Gomes as their photographer? I love Amy Bennett's work and contacted her to shoot our wedding but she is moving back to the states. She recommended her second shooter, Anna, instead. I haven't been able to find any reviews and would love any and all feedback on her. Thanks!

Hi brides-to-be! I recently was married at Couples Negril in Negril, Jamaica (November) and couldn't be happier with our decision to do a Destination Wedding! It was simple, easy and down right fun! When my husband and I finally decided on our destination, the first thing I did was start my research. Being a photographer myself, getting the best (and affordable) photographer on the island of Jamaica was my mission. I believe that my mission was completed with the best possible results! I had researched so many, and while the Resort Photographer was perfectly fine, I wanted a little bit more to my photos. That's when I found Misha Earle Photography. I loved that her photos were fun, but simple, not too over edited in post production, and her prices were on point. I am so glad I emailed Misha and booked her. It was like having a friend at my wedding with me taking my picture! She's fun, friendly and really good at what she does! She's professional, but laid back and really made my husband and I feel really special and beautiful! Here is Misha's contact information: www.mishaearlephotography.com & mishaearle@@gmail.com Take a gander at her gallery and email her asap - she is totally worth it!!! I am in love with my photos! Here are a couple for example:

Hi! I'm planning a wedding in Mexico in July 2015. It will be held at a private villa in Puerto Aventuras. I'm currently looking for a wedding planner, along with details on great live bands, DJs, catering options and photographers from people who know the area. Any suggestions?

Ana and Jerome were AMAZING! I just used them on my 1/18/15 wedding and they were perfect. I actually had a hard time finding wedding photography I liked. I felt like a lot of the Cabo photographers had a very different style than what I was going for. A lot of the photographers I looked at had very dark, dramatic photos (not bad photography, just not what I was going for). I really wanted my photographs to turn out light, bright, and fun (which was the vibe I was going for through my whole wedding). I really liked Amy Abbott, but she was unavailable.... I was feeling very discouraged but then I came across Ana and Jerome and I loved their gallery. The photos were so beautiful and I loved their style - both in terms of the setup and positioning of the bride/groom/etc but also the editing. They were just as great in person! They were responsive to emails throughout the process and once they arrived at the wedding, everyone really loved them. They speak fluent English so they knew how to tell everyone what to do and where to go, and they struck a perfect balance between blending into the background, but also inserting themselves when necessary to tell us what looks best and to position us best for shots (for instance, Ana kept reminding me not to slouch, which I appreciated ). We have already received some photos and they are stunning! The lighting, the frames, and the editing is all done so well. I would highly recommend working with them! Not only do they capture beautiful moments and edit the pictures beautifully, but they are just a really nice, enjoyable, fun couple that was a pleasure to work with personally. If anyone would like a reference on them, I would be happy to speak with you offline! Ashley

We know, having your beach wedding ceremony at sunset seems like the most romantic wedding on earth. But at the Caribbean the sun does not set at the seaside and our experience throughout the years of taking artistique photographs learned that the sun is quickly blocked by surrounding clouds (even if they do create beautiful postcard skies before they take away the sun) or buildings (particularly in resorts), long before the actual sunset. The sun also goes down in a blink in tropical regions such as the Riviera Maya. This all together makes that you do not enjoy that magical moment very long and by the end of the ceremony it will be dark, disabling you to have those lifetime memory pictures of you and your freshly new husband. Therefore, instead of planning your ceremony right at sunset, schedule it one to two hours before. It will allow you to have wonderful shots with rays of a late afternoon sun and the ceremony will still be breathtaking! After the bridal session, the dark blue skies of entering night are the best backdrops for us photographers, to shoot the cocktail/reception set-ups. Shawna + Jerome Ashley + Scott If you really want to have the ceremony during sunset, the best thing to do is to preview a bridal/TTD session before the ceremony or another day later on, as explained in our article ‘Bride and Groom, a first sight story’.

This guide has been written to help couples planning a beach wedding to realize their dreams and preserve memories of these moments for a lifetime or more. Since arriving in Mexico little over 6 years ago, I have learned a lot about destination weddings, especially beach resort weddings in Mexico. In that time the various photography businesses under my direction have captured over 8,000 destination weddings. As a company director with a great passion and enthusiasm for photography, I have personally photographed over 150 weddings and continue to love to do so with much gumption. I feel truly blessed to have become friends and acquaintances with so many wonderful young couples and their families during this time. It’s an absolute pleasure to have played my part in their wedding day. Think about this…... Besides your fiancé you will probably spend more time with the photographer and / or videographer on your wedding day then you will with anyone else, so you better make sure that you get on, connect and trust them. The wonderful thing about event photography is that if you were to ask 2 photographers to cover the same event, they will always come back with different pictures. No 2 photographers are the same. They come in all shapes and sizes + photography styles, techniques, equipment and service can differ enormously. Here is a list of some of the different styles of wedding photography: Boudour Wedding Photography with a fashion sense Wedding photo journalism WOW posed pictures Tradition formal posed and group photos Lifestyle wedding photos Adventure Wedding Photos Party and event photography There are a lot of great photographers out there who are specialists in one or two of the above styles, but only few who can do it all. So be mindful of this. For example a wedding photojournalist photographer maybe able to WOW you with a portfolio of images that are packed full of emotion, but is he/she able or willing to direct a large group to capture a group photo or that family portrait your grand mother will so dearly appreciate ? Likewize a trendy superstar photographer with a great fashion sense maybe able to shoot some WOW photos of you and your fiancé, but do you really want to take a lot of time away from your guests on your wedding day to go on a location photo shoot and pose like a model? And is that same photographer happy to shoot event and party photos at your table or on the dance floor later on in the evening ? In my opinion different photography styles and skill sets are required throughout the wedding day. A good photographer must have the ability to deliver in each moment. So find a photographer who can perform well at the moments of your wedding that are most important to you. Here are some suggestions of skills a good photographer should have the ability to perform at different moments during a wedding day Getting ready: Photojournalism Boudair Fashion Couples or immediate wedding party photo shoot: Fashion, WOW, people control, fun. lifestyle posing, motion assisted posing, documentary Ceremony: Photojournalism Reception: Photojournalism Fun Event Fashion Hire a photographer who is based in the destination or past experience shooting in your chosen destination. Why? All photographers who enter Mexico or other countries should have a legal work permit. They are used to weather conditions. They speak the language. They are likely to be familiar with the hotel wedding co-ordinations and operations staff. You are not short of talent. Some of the best photographers in the world live in the most popular wedding destinations Look at photographers portfolios on the web, recommendations for friends or other wedding professionals and see which style of photos you like the most. If you can’t make a final selection at this point select your favorite 3. Contact all 3 photographers, find out their rates and try to get a telephone or Skype consultation. Hire a quality photographer that is local to the destination and /or has past experience shooting there. Look at the portfolios for photographers on the internet or who have been referred to you by friends or other wedding professionals. Make a list of 3 potential options. Reach out to them to request a free telephone, Skype or better still, an onsite consultation. Ask the photographer questions to make sure that they can deliver the style of photography that you like for each part of your wedding day. Listen to hear what the photographer has to say. Does he or she ask you questions to try to get to know you better, do they make an effort to find out who you are and what you are looking for? Do they sound genuinely interested in you? Make a Pintrest board with all your favorite wedding photos that you can find online and share it with the photographer. Hire the photographer who you connect with the most, who’s portfolio you like the best, who seemed most willing to collaborate with you and was most enthusiastic about learning more about you, your ideas and your wedding plans. Create a must-have shot list and confirm it with your photographer and / or videographer. If you desire professionals to capture both stills and motion pictures during your wedding its a good idea to hire one company that provides both services or at least 2 vendors who have experience working together and enjoyed the experience. At the very least it's a good idea to insist that the photographer and videographer talk to each other before the event Have your photographer and videographer provide you with a detailed service contract with clear expectations and dates for delivery of images and/or video. Hire a photographer that you have not had any contact with whatsoever before your wedding day Hire a photographer who attempts to desuade you from using a videographer or visa versa. Hire a photographer who has never shot or at least visited your wedding destination. Take a friend or family member with a DSLR up on their offer to shoot your wedding photos and video. At Pixan photography we offer free consultation because we believe that the best wedding photos are captured when we get to know my clients, the people we photograph and then bring that out in their images over a very short period of time. We want to connect so that your joy to becomes our joy, that way we see the details, the important things, we notice life, emotions, passions, feelings and the personal connections that make you and your loved ones so special. This is what makes really great photographs - and our jobs - so special. Learning about what makes you who you are, the people you love and the story you have to share. That's our favorite part of being a photographer. Pixan lead photographers are experienced photographers who can shoot in a variety of styles. Pixan assistant photographers are all specialist in at least 2 styles of photography. We love to listen to our clients and collaborate with their ideas as it helps us to define and ultimately exceed expectations. Pixan photography and video staff work together and actively assist each other throughout events. Pixan contracts present clearly stated expectations and dates for delivery. Work with your wedding planner, hotel coordinator, photographer and videographer to define a wedding day time line. Consider enough time to complete the shot list that you have defined with your photographer. I was once at a wedding where the bride fainted because of the heat. It was a british couple getting married in Cancun. They decided to get married at 12 noon because they wanted their wedding day to last all day. DO NOT GET MARRIED AT 12 NOON on a beach in the caribbean or anywhere in Mexico, it’s simply too hot and humid. It is best to choose a time in the late afternoon or evening. If you have a big shot list for your photo and video team to get through before the sun goes down, it might be an idea to organize a bride and groom’s "1st look” a couple of hours before the ceremony and get some of those photos done then. This also means that you will spend less time away from your family and friends during the event. I highly recommend it. Create a “Must Have Shot List" with your photographer and videographer team Define the length of time you will need to take your non-documentary or photo journalist photos. Plan your wedding day timeline with your photographer and videographer to ensure that you allow sufficient time to capture the images you have requested on your shot list. Get married outside on the beach under the mid day sun. Set your photographer up for failure by failing to plan the day with sufficient time to capture the photos that you requested. Every couple is unique, each wedding is different. During our pre-wedding consultation with our clients we work together to formulate a wedding day timeline or review an existing timeline to ensure that there is enough time to capture all the requested images. CLOTHING For the bride: Don't wear shoes with high heels. They don't work well on the sand. Wear a wedding gown that is suitable for the beach and is not designed to be worn with high heals. For the Bridesmaids and flower girls: Light summer dresses. No heavy garments or high heals. For the groom and grooms men. Light summer wear, do not rent heavily traditional hat top and tails from your local suit rental shop. It's simply way too hot for that on a beach in Mexico or the Caribbean. I’ve seen grooms faint during the ceremony due to being overdressed and thus overheating. Color design. Make sure colors don't clash! I find the easiest way of working out color is to look at a color wheel and remembering this simple rule: Colors next to each others are best friends and go well together. Colors directly opposite are “In Love” as they are in complete contrast with each other. Hair: While the sea breeze on a beach is both relaxing and refreshing, it can also seriously mess with your hair. The sun, heat, humidity and salt can easily combine to dramatically change your hairstyle in minutes. I've photographed many a ceremony where the bride had chosen to have her hair styled with a fringe or "bangs" as you say in America and the sea breeze just kept on blowing hair over the brides eyes and across her face, so she spent the whole ceremony pushing her hair out of her face with her fingers. The surefire best plan is to have your hair tied back and out of your face. Make up: I'm not a hair and makeup expert but experience has shown me that if you can afford it, hire a good makeup artists. Airbrush spray gun makeup is truly the secret weapon and the only style of makeup that is likely to last all night in hot humid conditions. So if you want to look amazing for your reception's party, airbrush spray gun makeup is the way to go. It certainly helps us photographers out. Check out these before and after photos from makeup artist Mildred Trevino Rodrigues email: [email protected] Tel: 0052 14765711 Wear cloths that you will feel comfortable in. Make sure that the colors that you decide work together, as well as with the colors of the natural environment. Hire a good makeup artist that used airbrush spray gun makeup. Style your hair so that it looks great in the sea breeze. Get married in the mid day sun Wear high healed shoes Buy a wedding dress that requires you to wear high healed shoes. Wear thick, heavy gowns or suits. Rent top hat and tales from your local suit rental company. Wear makeup that is not waterproof. Style you hair with a fringe, "Bangs" or in your face. The sea breeze is likely to ruin it. Most weddings last just one day, but your pictures should last for a lifetime or more. Make sure that you talk to your photographer about the final product. Be sure to find out when, where and how you will receive your images. In todays hi-tech, connected world, your photos should be safely secured in the cloud, on a disc and in print form. The latest printing and album making techniques promise better print quality then every before with high quality materials that should last 100 years or more. Ask your photographer for information about how your proof photos or digital negatives will be delivered and safely stored. View samples of photo books and albums. Check the quality. Inquire about the album design process. How does the process work? View print and canvas samples, check the quality. Ask for a copyright release form. Some photo labs in the US and Canada will not print professional photos without one. Forget to ask about delivery of your images Accept Low resolution images Accept low quality prints or albums from any professional photographer At Pixan Photography we own our very own professional photography lab which crafts arguable the finest photo books / albums and fine art prints in Mexico. Hello All!! I'm super excited to announce that I finally selected my destination!! Finest Resort in Playa Mujeres is my resort of choice. I'm super nervous since it will be opening in Feb 2015 and I'll hopefully be getting married there in July 2015. The great thing about this resort is that it's apart of the Excellence Group which I've heard nothing but great things. Now for all the fun and overwhelming things that come next! I don't even know where to get started. Does anybody have any insight they can share as far as photographers, cinematographers, etc?! XO, Sandy http://www.finestresorts.com/

I've noticed the review pages for photographers are full of one timer reviews. With similar grammatical mistakes and 5 stars no cons, always AMAZING!!... Very fishy and very unnerving. I'm looking for an affordable photographer in Cancun who doesn't pump up his/her own reviews. ... Please help!!

Hi! I'm still undecided about my photographer, I'm deciding between Estefania Flores and Photoshoots Vallarta. The reason is because photoshoots exceeds completely my budget and I like Estefania's work it's more in my price sheet area. I was wondering if anyone has actually booked her and what was their experience?

Hello Brides, I finally have a chance to review my wedding in April 2014! It's been a long journey, and I want to help out other brides as much as possible, so here it goes.... Here are some professional photos: https://plus.googleapis.com/105327139201478088186/posts/MBtt7kdttkR?pid=6013667542488420066&oid=105327139201478088186 WC: Illeana Reyes - A First off, I loved Illeana immediately. She was very sweet and honest, and talked me down a lot when i was freaking out. Second, sh'es not super-responsive, but I think the longest she ever took to respond to me was 5 days, and that was when i had months left until the wedding. The month of my wedding they were immediate, and she was almost always available to talk on the phone. From start to finish she helped me with every detail and helped me stay in budget as much as possible. I'd use her again in a heartbeat. Flowers: Sergio - Flowers and Events - A http://www.flowersandeventsloscabos.com/ Sergio was affordable and had AMAZING flowers. I loved everything he did, and he matched all my photos perfectly (I especially loved my arch). Warning: he is super unresponsive, but Illeana told me to trust him, and that he would do his job, and he certainly delivered. The day before the wedding he sent his asst to my hotel to show me the flowers he was going to use so that i could see the color pinky peach he was using, so there wouldn't be any mistake. I would use him again in a heartbeat. I also recommended him to 2 other brides and they loved him as well. Hair and Make-Up: Neysa Berman - C- and i asked for this I didn't like my hair and make-up. I regret hiring her and not speaking up more- It was partly my fault for not speaking up enough, but I know she knew i wasn't 100% happy with it, and didn't seem to care that much. She WAS nice and punctual and professional, though... I had the trial the day before my wedding for the rehearsal/welcome dinner, and a lot of people commented how dark my face looked, so i asked her when she started doing my make up for the wedding if she could lighten my foundation a couple of shades. Her response? "Oh, yeah i noticed that yesterday." Ok, thanks for letting me go to my rehearsal and welcome dinner looking like that. Then she put my hair up, and it didn't look like the trial from the day before or any of the photos i gave her (see above). When i told her that, she said she couldn't really change it b/c then it would ruin the s-shape she had made in my twist in the back. Who the hell cares about the twist in the back? I look like I have a wig or helmet on, AND my eyes look smaller... Like I said, I should have been a bridezilla but she didn't make me feel comfortable saying anything....but I wish I had. Oh, on top of that, in some of my wedding photos my face is like 3 shades darker than my body, so my photographer had to do some photo-shopping, which brings me to my next point- Photographer - Gilda Badillo - B+ I really liked Gilda, but I had to tell her my face was 3 times darker than my face in a lot of the photos. I mean, shouldn't she have seen that? Other than that, she was lovely and funny and energetic, and got everyone smiling. She even put up with my drunk friend who kept photo bombing all the pics. I'd hire her again, she gave me a great price and i wish i had booked her for more time. Hotel - Casa Dorada Resort - A+++++ God, I love this resort. I wish i could call every single person that wants to get married in cabo and tell them to get married here. They have the best staff, made us and all my guests feel like VIP, and were accommodating to everything. The only thing i would change was the lighting in the room. We need more light when we get our hair and make up done! Those windows aren't enough! The food at CD was AMAZING and CHEAP! Almost all my guests stayed there, we fulfilled our room block with no problem and everyone loved the location- you can walk easily to downtown. The WC, Jazmin, at CD is also great- sweet and awesome. Welcome Dinner - Baja Cantina - C+ I wouldn't do it here if i had to do it again. They were VERY unresponsive, mixed everything up, the night of we had to stand around while they brought 2 more tables even though we told them for weeks our final count, they served the wrong margarita, they would give me one price one week, then weeks later said they gave me the wrong price, the payment site didn't work....i could go on. They did however make a special plate for my vegan friends, which was very sweet, but that doesn't really make up for all the headaches they caused. And the food was just ok...the food and drinks were very different when we had dinner there on other occasions, definitely not as good. I'd have CD whip something up for me if i had to do it again, like a bonfire or a taco station at the firepits, b/c they're cool like that. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck all of you trying to plan your wedding around the hurricane aftermath.

Is there anyone bringing their own photographer for your wedding? We have a friend who we are thinking about asking to come but we are wondering what we should pay him? Obviously we would pay for his trip but how much extra would you recommend paying him? He has a girlfriend that we were going to invite as well. Do you give him money for her too? Do you bring them for the whole week or a shorter trip? He is a friend of the family so it is not like he wouldn't know anybody. We have to make a decision for this soon since our deposits are due right away. Any insight would help!

Hello Cabo brides- I was planning my wedding in Cabo on October 18th- but we had to move the location to Scottsdale which turned out amazing considering the quick switch. About 1/3 of our vendors in Cabo did not give our deposits back- which is somewhat understandable given the contracts we signed and the expenses they are incurring. Our photographer, Tomas Barron who does amazing work (http://tomasbarron.com/) offered a compromise to give our deposit of $1835 to another bride who would book with him. We are willing to give this $1835 credit to a Cabo wedding couple for $1250 (over $550 discount) to make this a win win situation. We would wait to get funds from you or we can work to get them through Tomas once you sign up with him. Our Cabo wedding planner (Christina Mattos- who is amazing) can verify all information if needed. If you are looking for a great photographer in Cabo with an amazing discount please PM me- Thanks and happy wedding planning. Tiffany

FH and I are trying to cut down some costs so that we can splurge on the photographer and videographer for the wedding (among other things). We live in Canada so really the person taking our engagement pictures would not be the same as the one taking our wedding ones. What do you ladies think, are engagement sessions completely necessary or should we just skip that and pocket that money for more necessary expenses on the wedding day? The only use I thought we could give them was to put them on our wedding website but really that's it. We don't like STD or invitations with our picture on it. Thanks for your opinions!

Hi everyone. I am Elle and I got engaged in April of 2014, I chose a wedding date of Nov 1, 2014 in Ocho Rios at the RUI hotel. I am somewhat regretting the decision based on some of the photos of the hotel I have seen. I made a rushed decision due to my travel agent pressing me to hurry and pick a location, and I had to think about accomodating kids, which would be harder. I feel like i was pressured and now I regret it. A lot of family have their flights, and some have even booked the room so I doubt I can change it now. But I want to know if anyone used this hotel and they were happy with it. Also, my hair and make up girls can't make it so I am concerned that I won't get the look I want to have. And I am freaking about a photographer. I like the guy on the site because he is very helpful with planning, though I should have spoken to my planner by now and I have not! He gave me a lot of good pointers on how the sun sets in Ocho Rios and when the best time to have the wedding would be. But I should probably get other quotes. I say this because most of his photos are on the resort and I am not impressed with that location anymore, now that I have had time to see other locations. That bring me to my last point, I have been so busy at work that I have barely had time to find a gown! I happen to be very tall (6'0) so I had to get a gown that didn't require extra length. That was a TASK. I found one but it is late. I don't have it yet. I am 3 months away from my wedding date. I am so busy at work, with travel and getting promotions that I am afraid I am going to fall apart at the seams! I will stop rambling now. I just needed to vent and get some suggestions or help or advice or some tranquilizers! Geez!!

Our resort, EPM has an in house photographer we can use, Beach Studios. I've looked at their packages and they are RIDICULOUSLY high for what they offer (range from $500-$4,800, with the $500 option only getting you 24 images). We can bring in a photographer for a $500 fee, which might be worth it if they have a more robust and reasonable package. Have any of you found an amazing photographer with excellence packages for reasonable prices??

Hello other engaged people! Congratulations. I've searched some and haven't seen any posts on weddings held at Verana, in the town of Yelapa (not too far from Puerto Vallarta, MX). Anyway, I'd love insight from other people who have or will be getting married at that location. I'll be looking for someone do do makeup and hair, and we are also going to need a photographer and DJ. I'd love to hire someone local for photography, since it should be cheaper than flying in someone from the U.S., but we're open. I look forward to hearing from someone/anyone, and to sharing what I find out. Thanks! Jolene

Hello everyone, We are looking to get married at the Hard Rock Punta Cana in July 2015.. We have Never been to this resort or Punta Cana. We are having a small wedding (about 12 adults, 4 children total) The questions I have: Are these wedding packages such as the "insignia" package customizable? Like not using the blue they have and substitute it for another color? Is it expensive to change this if at all possible? Do they have there own photographer? What are the packages they have and how much? This is all very new to all involved.. How long is the ceremony? Options for what to do after with such a small group. I appreciate any and ALL advice, input etc. Scott from Boston
