Rashedah and Torry's Wedding at Iberostar Rosehall Beach Resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica Bride and Groom were wed on October 8, 2011. Rashedah, futuremrstgun, used the BDW Community to bring her destination wedding to life. Rashedah gives back to the BDW Community as she kindly shares the details of her perfect day in an interview below. Wedding Profile The Bride Rashedah The Groom Torry Hometown San Antonio, TX Wedding Date October 8, 2011 Wedding Location Iberostar Rosehall Beach resort, Montego Bay, Jamaica Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? When my honey and I started dating, he'd told me that if we ever got married, it would be in Jamaica...so, after he put a ring on it...I started planning!!! Why did you choose your location? Torry and I visit Jamaica every Fall so we're very familiar with the island's hotel offerings. I chose Iberostar Rosehall Beach resort because it afforded our guests luxury accommodations, great food and the opportunity to experience the island's premier resort. What were your wedding colors and/or theme? Our colors were purple, platinum, black and white which just so happen to be the colors of my honey's favorite NFL team (shout out to the B'more Ravens). Our theme was sea life including shells, starfish and sea lions. I also incorporated my honey's love of paisley and my love of Scrabble into our stationery suite and decor. Every wedding is special in its own right. What made your wedding unique? This was a second wedding for my honey and I but the first time around, my father didn't give me away so this time, I was determined to have "Daddy" walk me down the aisle, which he did. At almost 40 years old, I felt like his little girl all over again. Walking arm and arm with my Dad ranks among the most defining moments of my life. The other thing that made our wedding special was that I DIY'd everything from invitations to decor. It seemed the more I got into planning, the more my "inner-Martha Stewart" took over. One of the major challenges of putting together a destination wedding is finding and working with your ideal vendors from afar. What wedding vendors did you use to put together this spectacular wedding? Photographer -- Marcia E. Roberts Wedding Coordinator -- Silvia (former) Iberostar Rosehall Beach WC Wedding Dress --Mori Lee Invitations --I DIY'd everything myself! Janette & Colin's Grand Sirenis Resort Akumel Wedding Bride and Groom were wed on April 16, 2012. Janette, username [janette34], used the BDW Community to bring her destination wedding to life. Janette gives back to the BDW Community as she kindly shares the details of her perfect day in an interview below. Wedding Profile The Bride Janette The Groom Colin Hometown Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, Canada Wedding Date April 16, 2012 Wedding Location Grand Sirenis Resort, Akumel, Mexico Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? For us this was fairly simple, neither of us are overly religious and growing up by the ocean we are both beach lovers. Colin had never travelled outside of the country when we first met and shortly after we had started dating he moved to the other side of the country for work for a few months, part of the agreement was we had to go on vacation when he came home so we found a great deal to Mexico and have been going every year for the past 8 years. We wanted to share our love of Mexico with our friends and family and at the same time give them an excuse to take a vacation. Why did you choose your location? We had stayed there in the past and enjoyed the resort but mostly we choose the Grand Sirenis for their private wedding/reception location. The Grand Sirenis met all our needs for our group, family friendly, lots of restaurants and most of all the price we got fit into eveyone's budget. What were your wedding colors and/or theme? Pink & Orange with lots of starfish! Every wedding is special in its own right. What made your wedding unique? Our relationship is special because it was never supposed to be a relationship. For Colin it was love at first sight, but I was already in a relationship. After meeting at an Oktoberfest gathering in 2004 he just started showing up at places I would be. For awhile I really thought this guy has issues and even thought he might be a stalker. His persistance paid off and after many months of trying to get my attention I gave him a chance. He proposed on my birthday in 2010 to which I responded "Maybe if I thought you were serious", I never noticed the ring in his hand and it wasn't until I looked at him that I realized he was in fact serious. One of the major challenges of putting together a destination wedding is finding and working with your ideal vendors from afar. What wedding vendors did you use to put together this spectacular wedding? Dress - Pronovias, Alfil Photographer(s) - My sister in law for the ceremony, Juan Navarro for the TTD Florist - Bloom Bridal for my real touch bouquet Wedding coordinator - Elizabeth at the Grand Sirenis Initation company - DIY Boarding Passes You were an active member of BDW and created some great content. Mission Wedding in San Jose del Cabo February 1, 2011. Stephanie, username LeeLee, used the BDW Community to bring her destination wedding to life. Stephanie gives back to the BDW Community as she kindly shares the details of her perfect day in an interview below. Wedding Profile The Bride Stephanie The Groom Keith Hometown Andover, Minnesota Wedding Date February 1, 2011 Wedding Location Ceremony at Mission de San Jose del Cabo Anuniti Vacation Stay and Reception at Melia Cabo Real Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? ?Keith and I decided to tie to knot in Mexico for a handful of reasons. #1: We met in Cabo, while on vacation in 2008. We wanted to seal the deal where it all began! #2: Keith's Grandma (no longer with us) was born and lived in Mexico prior to moving to the US. Keith knew his Grandma would be so proud that we married in her country, which made the decision extra special! #3: WHY NOT? The stress of a 250+ guest list/at home wedding was daunting and we wanted to actually enjoy our special day with a small group of our immediate family and closest friends! We wanted an intimate and memorable celebration that we'd reminisce about for years to come! Why did you choose your location? In addition to meeting one another in Mexico and many, many, many hours researching on BDW--we knew Cabo was the location, we just had to narrow down to the exact resort. We traveled to Mexico for a site visit--we stayed at MCR and visited the Mission. It was our #1 priority to get married in the Catholic Church and La Mission de San Jose del Cabo was exactly what we were looking for. We met all the requirements to wed in the Mission and worked with Padre Juevincio on the details. A classic church ceremony, followed by a beautiful sunset celebration--the perfect combo! We also fell in love with the Melia Cabo Real. It had everything we were looking for--a mix of festive, yet chill atmosphere, numerous gorgeous reception locations to choose from! Affordable accommodations and wedding packages made the decision to select MCR very easy! Plus it is in a great location--in the corridor, which made traveling to the Mission for the ceremony rather convenient! What were your wedding colors and/or theme? Colors: Festive Red/Deep Coral with accents of turquoise and gold. Theme: Classic, chic and fresh! Every wedding is special in its own right. What made your wedding unique? What made our wedding so special was the memories we made! Long after the wedding cake was eaten, the first dance sparklers faded, or the tequila buzz wore off, we will forever have memories of our union shared with 30 of our closest family and friends. The entire week spent with our loved ones can never be duplicated. The guy's fishing trip, the girls' mani/pedi spa soiree, what felt like hurricane grade wind during our Groom's dinner, down to the most magical and perfect wedding day a Bride and Groom could ask for will forever be cherished. In addition to the amazing memories and marrying the man of my dreams, I do have to plug the actual event details! Our wedding was truly a show-stopper. Every detail thought of, every detail executed by the awesome resort staff, every detail enjoyed by our guests. Guests raved about the 10 man Mariachi band, our 'signature cocktail'--Sol Beer (Keith's favorite, not served at MCR, but brought in special for our wedding, yeah!), the personalized place card/menu selection (votive candles with guest's name and dinner selection), delicious dinner followed by tasty dessert and cake! All mouth watering! Our first dance was surrounded by sparklers that created a romantic glow and a dance party that kept on going...right to the hotel bar! A serious commitment followed by a true party! It was everything we dreamed it would be--and more! One of the major challenges of putting together a destination wedding is finding and working with your ideal vendors from afar. What wedding vendors did you use to put together this spectacular wedding? Photographer: Captured Moments by Candice (MN vendor) Officiant/Priest: Padre Juevinicio Wedding Coordinators provided by resort: Vanessa and Nubia. Resort also sourced the florist, 10 piece mariachi band, 2 piece ceremony talent--soloist/guitarist and harpist, round trip transportation for wedding day and rehearsal, and DJ Edwin Wedding Gown: Casa Blanca. Custom invitations: MN artist-Katrien Leys Welcome Gift: insulated tumbler from Imprint4less.com Hair and makeup: Neysa Berman Spa Soiree at Cabo Surf (mani/pedi for my bridesmaids, mother and mother-in-laws) Bridesmaid dresses: Belsoie/B2 Groom/Groomsmen suits: BOGO from Men's Warehouse You were an active member of BDW and created some great content. Cortney & Michael's Paradisus Punta Cana Wedding Bride and Groom were wed on April 21, 2012. Cortney, username cdc150, used the BDW Community to bring her destination wedding to life. Cortney gives back to the BDW Community as she kindly shares the details of her perfect day in an interview below. Wedding Profile The Bride Cortney Cutler The Groom Michael Ruzzi Hometown Phoenixwille, PA Wedding Date April 21, 2012 Wedding Location Paradisus Punta Cana, Dominican Republic Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? Mike and I are both beach lovers. His parents have a house at the Jersey Shore where we go regularly every summer. Our first vacation together was to Jamaica, and our most recent being to Cancun. In Cancun we saw a DW occur and Mike was sold on the relaxed vibe, intimate reception and the general fun it looked the group had the whole time we were there. A few months after our trip he proposed to me at sunset on the beach of North Wildwood. It was such a romantic moment with the sun setting as he got on one knee, we couldn't think of anything more special than saying I do the same way! Besides that ideal reason, we are also building a house as we plan our wedding. Much of our money is going to our investment of our future home, so we wanted a wedding that would be beautiful, yet cost effective. Mike has a large family and with step-family I do as well. With getting married in the DR, we knew we could keep it much more affordable and the people we were closest to would come. We have 51 guests booked and couldn’t be happier! J Why did you choose your location? After speaking to our travel agent, we found Jamaica, Mexico and the Domincan Republic most affordable for our guests. We went to Jamaica in 2009, and although we had a great time, we didn’t see it as a place we wanted to get married. We were just in Mexico in February and weren’t ready to go back. I went to Punta Cana with my girlfriends before I met Mike, and every time we went away I compared our trips to that one. I loved the beaches, the resorts, even the airport. Since Mike trusts my impeccable tastes, he agreed that was the place we should get married. When doing our research, I came across the Paradisus PC’s site and with looking at the pics I fell in love with it. The natural rain forest, the large property, it was just beautiful! After reading extensive reviews of the resorts and emailing brides who had gotten married there, we decided that was the place to get married! Since then I have seen more and more positive reviews of the resort and cannot wait to get there in April. What were your wedding colors and/or theme? Our theme is beach chic and our colors are coral, aqua and white. I want everyone to be comfortable and relaxed for our big day. Every wedding is special in its own right. What made your wedding unique? I think what makes our relationship amazing is that we have been through a lot together in the past 3 years that would normally break up most couples. The two of us grew stronger because of it. We were going to move in together in 2009, and we were meeting with a realtor on a Saturday in July to go look at houses. That Friday Mike got laid off from his job. 2 months later I got laid off from my job. The two of us were out of work in a very tough market. Luckily 2010 brought both of us good jobs and a home we rent together. Those 6-9 months we so hard on us financially and emotionally, but luckily we had each other to get through it. In October of this year we were in Florida visiting Mike’s parent when we hydroplaned across the highway and got t-boned by a car at 70 mph. It was probably the scariest night of our lives. Luckily parties in both vehicles were okay. The fact that we are alive and relatively unharmed makes me know that our marriage is meant to be. Our wedding to us it just a big party to celebrate our commitment to each other. By the time we get married we would have been living together for 2 years and together for 4 years. We have a dog, we’re building a house and our friends and family always joke that it’s like we’ve been married for the past 2 years. We don’t expect our relationship to change much after the big day, we are just happy we get to share the rest of our lives together! One of the major challenges of putting together a destination wedding is finding and working with your ideal vendors from afar. Shawn Trisha Gran Bahia Principe Akumal Wedding In Riviera Maya
TammyWright posted a article in Real Weddings
Shawn & Trisha's wedding at Gran Bahia Principe Akumal Shawn & Trisha were Married on April 11, 2008 Trisha, Tlseege, used the BDW Community to bring her destination wedding to life. Trishagives back to the BDW Community as she kindly shares the details of her perfect day in an interview below. Wedding Profile The Bride Trisha Seegert The Groom Shawn Faber Hometown West Bend, WI (Just north of Milwaukee) Wedding Date April 11, 2008 Wedding Location Gran Bahia Principe Akumel Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? I absolutely love to travel. I have been traveling since I was a very small girl. I would always tell my parents that I would get married on the beach some day. In fact, I was a BDW bride BEFORE I was engaged! (You can read my engagement story here!) Shawn came into the picture in 2004 and we were inseparable. He loved traveling too, so a destination wedding just seemed natural. In our minds, there was nothing better than getting married with our toes in the sand, the waves crashing behind us, and our closest family and friends there to support us. Why did you choose your location? Oh my! What a hard question! I'm extremely type A. I have spreadsheets for my spreadsheets! So when it came down to choosing a wedding location it was very hard for me. I had spreadsheets with wedding offerings, prices for accommodations, and prices for airfare. I made a list of the things that were most important to me: Must be affordable so as many of our friends and family can come as possible Must allow children Big enough that our group doesn't HAVE to be on top of each other, yet close enough we can find each other I HAD to get married with the sand beneath my toes and waves crashing I wanted an outdoor wedding reception In a location that offers excursions for my guests When I combined all the things that I wanted the Gran Bahia Principe Akumal turned out to be perfect! It's an extremely affordable, highly rated hotel. It was very child friendly with children buffets, play areas, and shallow pools. It's a very large complex, but has three smaller sections within it, so finding each other was easy. The ceremony site was on the sand with a rocky area in front of it, meaning I'd get my waves crashing! I was able to have a poolside reception. The Riviera Maya is FULL of amazing excursions that we all took part in! What were your wedding colors and/or theme? My theme was tropical paradise. So our colors were bright blue and pink with touches of green. We had palm trees, hibiscus flowers, and star fish as small touches throughout the event. But mostly, we relied on the gorgeous scenery to provide our theme Every wedding is special in its own right. What made your wedding unique? It's what makes every wedding special, the love between my husband, myself, and our families. Having our family and friends there to support us was amazing and truly showed how much they cared for us. But just looking into my husband's eyes while we said our vows, that was about as special as it gets. The Mini Wedding At Aventura Spa Palace Riviera Maya Mexico

The Mini Wedding Salvatore Mini and Jessica Snyder were wed on June 25, 2011. Jessica, username Jszy10, used the BDW Community to bring her destination wedding to life. Jessica gives back to the BDW Community as she kindly shares the details of her perfect day in an interview below. The Mini’s Wedding Profile The Bride Jessica Snyder / BDW member: Jszy10 The Groom Salvatore Mini Hometown Philadelphia, PA Wedding Date 6/25/2011 Wedding Location Aventura Spa Palace, Riviera Maya, Mexico Why did you choose to have a destination wedding? My husband and I knew before we were even engaged that we would want a destination wedding. Neither of us were interested in the idea of having 100+ people watching us get married and loved the idea of going somewhere gorgeous with our closest family and friends. Some of our guests had never left the country, so we knew it would just as special for them as it was for us. Why did you choose your location? I chose Riviera Maya based on its affordability and beauty, and chose our resort specifically because of the perks it offered us for our wedding and our guests for their stay. What were your wedding colors and/or theme? We chose a Tangerine orange and Glacier (Tiffany) blue for our colors based mostly on the fact that we both love tiger lilies (our orange inspiration) and the glaicer blue really matched with the tropical feel of the location. Every wedding is special in its own right. What made your wedding unique? Just having the opportunity to spend 10 days in paradise celebrating with our closest family and friends was more than either of us could have ever asked for. We had the most supportive parents and bridal party that helped us really make our wedding personal. Real Wedding in Udaipur A destination wedding in India means a combination of colours, fun, emotions, rituals, ceremonies and 2-3 days of celebrations of pre and post wedding events. It all started with Mehndi Evening where guests were welcomed with garlands, entertained with folk dancers and pupeet show, served Rajasthani food, got heena applied and more at the terrace of Sheraton Raputana Palace, Udaipur from where you can overlook the Fatehsagar Lake. Next morning started with Pitthi ceremony which entails rubbing paste of rose water, turmeric, chickpea flower. This ceremony happens for bride and groom both. In the evening the guests were ready to rock the dance floor in traditional style with Dandiya Sticks and Raas Garba. Here arrives the D day, a specific request from the bride was to walk down a white aisle and get married under white mandap. The groom arrived on an Elephant, with traditions Shaadi Band, welcomed with Shenai Player and the bride and groom tied the knot in spacious lawns of Sheraton palace Udaipur under white mandap on a beautiful cloudy morning. The colours of an Indian wedding stood out in this white wedding ceremony set up. Here comes the newly wedded couple for the cake cutting and first dance during their Reception Dinner. All this ends (or it really started) with a farewell brunch which was again a cloudy and nice morning. This destination wedding in Udaipur was organized by Memorable Indian Weddings. Sunaina Sharma is a destination wedding planner for India based in New Delhi. She is the co-founder of Memorable Indian Weddings, a destination wedding planning company famous for personalizing every element of the wedding as per couple’s requirement. http://www.memorableindianweddings.com

Should you have Judge or Minister? In Mexico Cancun-Riviera Maya you can have either Legal or Symbolic, unfortunately in many resorts does´t give the opportunity to meet your minister or judge and personalize the ceremony , please ask your coordinator the name of your minister and many of them are open to you for contacting them and make something very personal. I have the pleasure to meet and work with very flexible and experienced Ministers that are always responsive and very professional, for religious christian ceremonies I recommend Mr. Enrique or Adrian Monroy , they are english speaking, affordable and very formal . If you are looking for something more symbolic less religious Miss Roxana Fernandez is the option , she is great and sweet many resorts book her with anticipation and you can email her special moments or scripts. Finally the best judge for legal ceremonies in the area is Estela Sanchez she is great and easy to work for the paperwork and flexible ...she is open to make some adjustments in the actual speech always keeping the "legal" part.Just remember that for legal ceremony paperwork will be requested: Passports , tourist card , divorce decree(if apply), blood test and Judge payment .Symbolic or Religious ceremonies: NO paper work at all The ceremony is the whole reason because it is the actual "wedding moment" it should be beautiful and emotive...See the pictures below of some of them... . For many brides the question whether or not to allow their fiancé to take a look at her before the ceremony is a difficult decision. My experience is that you might loose the tradition and magic of the first glance down the aisle, but a previous encounter allows a more spontaneous and affectionate expression of your feelings which are running wild at the precious moment! Having the possibility to shoot a Bridal Session before the ceremony also suits particularly Winter Weddings because often the ceremony is planned just before sunset (especially at Xcaret), and if the couple decides not to see each other before the ceremony, there is no other possibility for daylight pictures than to preview a bridal or TTD session the next day. For Jewish couples planning a session the next day could be a solution since they might not be allowed to have the ceremony before sunset. Examples of nice pre-ceremony meetings and pictures: Lindsay + Josh April + Adam Trash the Dress sessions are becoming very popular, but some brides just don’t feel like ruining their bridal gown, (rather keep it and secretly put it on again from time to time to feel like a princess once again!). Therefore Zasil Studio also offers the possibility to have a photo shoot during the days following the wedding, in a relaxed atmosphere. Because, even if everything is organized to make the day run smooth and perfect, some times things get behind on schedule and the bridal session has to be, unfortunately, skipped. Sometimes you can even hardly notice the pictures weren’t taken the same day and they fuse perfectly into your wedding storytelling. Ashley + Scott Lindsey + Eric
