  1. @@TinkerSofi i found bandages for $1 (variety pack of 100) at Staples yesterday. I think they'll be useful, especially for ladies wearing newer shoes! As far as first aid I'm just doing those and Advil. Maybe tums if I can find a good deal.
  2. I think they are a nice add....if you can get them for a good price. I got mine from Target in the $1 spot - they were reduced to .30 at the end of the summer so I went a little crazy and probably purchased more than necessary : ) I'm sure people will lose them or toss them, but for 30 pennies you can't go wrong!
  3. If anyone is putting band aids in their bags, Staples has a box of 100 (variety pack) for $1. I wasn't planning on it originally, but for $1....why not!
  4. I'm thinking Canon in D for the bridal party and I Choose You by Sara Bareilles for me. Our first dance will likely be Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran. I haven't really pinned down the other songs, but you guys all have such great options. I love this thread!
  5. I don't have any to sell, but this site has some fan options: http://www.destinationweddingfavors.com/home.php?cat=318
  6. I ended up sending my invites mid-October and matched the RSVP date to the booking deadline. We only received 54 out of 150 rsvp cards back (both regrets and accepts), but we did have about 90 people booked by the deadline. I guess I'll have to call people and ask them their meal preference since they can't seem to return an already stamped envelope! That was a nice waste of money/time.
  7. Congrats on your engagement and deciding to do a destination wedding! There's a thread for Barcelo Bavaro Beach....it's listed as Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe because the resort is split into two, Barcelo Bavaro Beach is the adults side and Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe is the family side (where the ceremony typically takes place). There are lots of reviews, one as recent as November, that you can take a look at. I'm getting married there in April and took a site visit in September. I'm happy with our selection since it's big enough and has enough amenities for people of all ages and the rates weren't as high as some of the other resorts. I'll post a review after the wedding, but as far as the resort itself, it's beautiful and was perfect for what we needed for our guests! Here's a link to the page: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/57862-barcelo-bavaro-palace-deluxe/page-251 Good luck & happy planning!!
  8. yayyy congrats!! When we went for our site visit to BBPD in September we spoke to some people that attended a wedding their a few years ago and they said it was absolutely beautiful. Now the fun begins.....happy planning!! : )
  9. Our deadline is today at 3pm est and I had a cousin text me asking if she could just give me her credit card information so I can book for her. How annoying is that?! I would never contact the bride or groom the day of a deadline and ask them to book a room for me. I could understand if she wasn't computer savvy, but she is on a computer everyday and to ask a few hours before the deadline is just rude. In addition, my fiance's sister told him this morning that she can't make her deposit now because she found out about the deadline at the last minute! He's been calling her for weeks about it! We told our families in February this was happening, save the dates went out in May and invites went out in October and the invites clearly state the booking and final payment deadlinees. So infuriating! My assumption is if she doesn't have $100 for a deposit now she isn't going to be able to go. Sorry, had to vent!
  10. I definitely shouldn't have put "and guest" for the singles. I really just didn't think they'd bring a random friend, especially without asking. I would never do that, especially if the couple didn't know them.
  11. My deadline was last Friday (our service has been horrible so I complained and managed to get it extended). We've actually been calling people and basically walking them throught the booking site. I found sending emails/group texts wasn't really helping because people didn't get the sense of urgency. Try calling a few people and just say you are confiming if they are attending or not and wanted to see if they needed help reserving their room. Good luck...it's more of a headache than I thought it would be!
  12. I just encountered a strange situation. Being that the wedding is a vacation for our guests, we addressed our invitations with a guest for our friends that are in and out of relationships being that I wouldn't really know what their status will be when the wedding comes around. If my friends/family members have been in relationships I addressed the invite with their SO's name. Now we have guests bringing random friends we've never met or even heard of. Our one friend who is single did ask before he invited his buddy after trying to figure out who was already invited that he could room with. I was obviously okay with him bringing his friend since he plans to stay for 6 nights and none of our other friends that are going are able to stay that long. I wouldn't want him to shorten his trip because I said no. I still kind of wondered in my head if he was joining at the ceremony/reception, but figured he would be as opposed to sitting around the resort by himself for several hours. My fiance has two female friends that were invited and are also on and off in relationships. They decided to come and room together, which is great, but they also told us they are bringing a random friend we don't know. I think the issue I have with them is that they didn't ask us about it first (they booked and then told us). I know it comes with the territory of having a "guest", but if I received the invite I would have assumed it was for a boyfriend/girlfriend and not just any friend I'd want to bring. I'm just sucking it up and trying to convince myself that not everyone will do this (I just don't want 30 guests I don't even know at my wedding since I wanted it to be intimate).
  13. @@hsocorso I do! Let me know how many you'd like and which colors. Feel free to message me.
  14. Hi @@flaca313! I'm getting married at Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe. We didn't take a trip and visit a bunch of resorts, but if you can afford it you may want to - even if it's just an excuse to take a vacation! I'm very happy with my choice as it has something for everyone. We have a lot of people of all ages (my niece will turn 1 the day after we arrive and some of my older aunts/uncles are coming) so we needed something family friendly with lots to do and at a reasonable price. Initially we were in talks with Paradisus Palma Real but found it was too expensive for our guests. Our travel agent helped break down a few resorts and we decided based on costs and amenities. As far as the water - we are advised not to drink it! Only use bottled water. They say you can brush your teeth with it, but my fiance decided to stay safe and use bottled water for that too....kind of a pain but it's not the end of the world. Good luck making your decision!!
  15. @@tricia-m thanks for sharing your special day with us! Everyone looked great and it looked like you had an amazing time and I'm so glad everything went smoothly for you! A few questions: Were you charged a fee to bring your own photographer and videographer? Since your ceremony was at 3 and was only about 25 minutes, did you all go straight to the reception or did you have a cocktail hour while you guys did pictures? I don't want to pay for a cocktail hour but thinking of sending my guests Bar Carey - wondering how seamless that will be. How much extra was the 2 hours (I've heard different feedback on this). My ceremony is at 5 and I'm guessing we'll take some pictures after and the reception will start at 6 and it will end at 9 (which is pretty early for my family and the disco doesn't open until 11 I think). I also have a full on bridal gown...do you regret it? Would you suggest a lighter dress to change into at some point? Did you do any of the reception add-ons? When did you start planning everything out? I've been in touch with my WC and she doesn't seem to be too concerned about me making any decisions yet (my wedding is in April). Sorry for all of the questions, but some more may come to mind!
  16. I'm using weddingwindow.com. I actually don't think it's the best and wish I would have known about this forum before doing a lot of my initial planning.
  17. Hi ladies! I've been reading a lot of the reviews on here and I'm freaking out about the ceremony since there's not much detail in the reviews I've read. My WC, Elizabeth, said that an officiant is included in the tangerine package, but we won't meet with him prior to the ceremony and that he has a speech already established. My wedding is symbolic, but I'd still like it to be personal since we aren't having a ceremony at home. Can anyone give some information about the officiant (whoever he is). @missyanachka I haven't heard about things needing to end by 11pm but if that's the case, your party can head over to the disco.
  18. It's about 11 inches high. When open the bottom of the bag is about 8 by 5 and the top of the bag is about 7 by 12 inches. Does that help? I posted a pic with a newspaper next to it so you can try to get a general idea.
  19. I'm getting married at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe (I think Barcelo Punta Cana is smaller). I went for a site visit in September and loved it. We also are expecting a lot of guests of all ages, including toddlers, and they really do have something for everyone and lots of restaurants to choose from. They have a kids play area with water slides and fountains for the little ones as well as a small water park that my fiance and I even enjoyed. The resort is split into a family side and an adult side which is nice for those who want to lay on the beach or at the pool without kids being around. I haven't been to the other resorts you listed, so I can't say much about them, but I went with BBPD because it was reasonably priced and can accomodate all of my guests. I went to the Now Sapphire resort in Mexico a few years ago and loved it, so I'm sure Now Larimar will be just as great - just not sure if they are as kid friendly.
  20. If you'd like I can go to the post office to find out how much it will be. Just send me your info and how many bags you'd want.
  21. I'm getting married in April and am just waiting for Southwest to release their flight schedule (should be next week). Even if you don't want to fly with Southwest, my assumption is that overall prices will decrease with the increase in competition. Hopefully I'm not wrong, as this is what I've told my family! Also, I signed up for price alerts from skyscanner.com. All you need to do is provide your email address, traveling dates and where you are flying from and to. They'll send you email alerts when prices increase or decrease so you can find a trend to determine the best day of the week to purchase. For me, prices went down yesterday (Sunday) but increased by $18 today (Monday).
  22. I just found another bag of these under our guest bed with 5 additional in each color. So I have $15 with the aqua handle, 45 with the black handle and 22 with the white bottoms. You can buy all or a few. I purchased for $3 each, but I am willing to sell for $2 to save some closet space!
  23. Hi Ladies, I'm selling 67 small totes ($3 each) perfect for OOT bags. They aren't big enough to hold towels, but can definitely fit flip flops and other OOt items. They are from Target and still have the tags on them. I ended up finding bags that are big enough to hold towels which will be needed for the resort I'm getting married at. I have 10 with the aqua handle, 40 with the black handle and 17 with the white on the bottom.
  24. Hi Ladies, I've noticed a lot of people are looking for pictures. Here are some photos I received from our WC, Elizabeth - she's been great so far. Lots of bouquet options, but she said I can send her pictures of what I like and she'll let me know if they can do them. There's one centerpiece option, but I can request them to do something else for an extra charge, of course. Any brides pick peach as their color? I was going to go with coral and we went for a site visit and she gave me a little piece of the coral fabric and now that I'm home and trying to match it to other items, I feel it's a bit more on the pink side than I would like. I wish I would have asked to see the peach sashes while I was there! This is the rooftop location you can choose for the ceremony: This is the reception room: Ocean front gazebo: This is the centerpiece option (at least for the tangerine package): This is the color chart which I don't find to be extremely useful given different monitor brightness and such: Cake samples: Bouquet samples: I can email the pics for anyone who can't see them yet!
