  1. Ahhh I know it's so surreal! I started packing everything yesterday. We're having such miserable weather in Ottawa that EVERYONE is counting down the days until sunshine. I took the day off work on Friday, we're driving to Montreal at noon on Saturday, then flying out Sunday morning. Yahoo!
  2. Ours came out to about $1445 per person for the flights/hotel with taxes. Our tickets were included, but we paid for our photographers' trip.
  3. Hi @@Jc14! Happy to help We chose the first week of May because it's the first week after the main tourist season - which means the prices were a lot lower. Sadly because we have a lot of family that work in the education sector, this timing means that they couldn't make it. It also means I can't take a summer semester for grad school (just things that you may need to consider). The prices might be higher in December, but the weather should still be nice (I'm guessing, but you'd have to look into it), and more people may have time off work depending on how many people you want there
  4. Hi everyone! Just wondering if you have any advice or feedback for what would be best for manicures before leaving for the wedding. I had a regular manicure done 2 days before my engagement photos and had a giant chip on my left hand by the time we did the shoot! Thanks for your feedback!
  5. @@Jc14, I had lost mine too and had to re-order . As you never know when they'd come in handy, I ordered both the long and the short so that I have them on file. I'm located in Ottawa, but I know the consulate in Toronto does the paperwork for you too. In order to celebrate your wedding in the Dominican Republic the bride and groom will need to provide the following documents and they need to be authenticated by Foreign Affairs here in Ottawa.  Valid Passport*  Original or certified true copy of Birth Certificate long or short version (preferred) *  Single Status Affidavit. (Original and notarized) **  Death or Divorce Certificate in original**  Four witnesses over 18 years old. Two of them must not be relatives to the bride or groom ( hotel can provide them free, if necessary)  Translation into Spanish of the Birth Certificate, Single Status Affidavit and Death or Divorce Certificate. ( Can be done at the Embassy for a fee)  Legalization of the Single Status Affidavit, Death or Divorce Certificate by the Consular Section of this Embassy. (*) For legalization purposes at this Embassy, a notarized photocopy of your passport and Birth Certificate will suffice. The latter does not need to have your parent's name on it. However, you must bring all your documents to the Dominican Republic, including those already legalized by us and their originals. ** Translated into Spanish and legalized by this Embassy. If you are able to sign your Single Status Affidavit at this Embassy you do not need to notarize your Single Status Affidavit with a Canadian notary. Legal Fees in USD: The cost to translate a document is 40$ per document The cost to legalize a document is 100$ per document Courier to Foreign Affairs 50$ one time This fee is related to: 40$ x 4 to translate both Birth Certificates and two Single Status Affidavit=160$. 100$ x 2 to legalize two Single Status Affidavit= US100$, If any of you are not divorced or widowed, the total amount to pay to legalize and translate your wedding documents are $360.00 + 50$ (Foreign Affairs)USD = $410.00 On the other hand, if one of you is divorced or widowed, the person concerned should pay an additional US100.00 in order to legalize the Divorce or Death Certificate and US$40 for its translation into Spanish. Therefore, they will have to pay an extra US$140 per this document. In order words, if either the bride or groom is divorced or widowed, the total amount to pay to legalize their documents will be US$500.00 + 50$ (Foreign Affairs) USD$; if both (bride and groom) are divorced or widowed, they will have to pay $640.00 + 50$ (Foreign Affairs) USD$ IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please take into account the following facts before legalizing and translating your documents or even planning your wedding: 1. Once your documents have been legalized by this Embassy, they will be valid only for three (3) consecutive months from the legalization date, so take this into consideration before sending your documents for legalization. 2. A divorced bride cannot get married until 10 months have passed after her official divorce date, unless her intended husband is the same person that she has been divorced. If this is your case, please keep in touch with us at 613 569 9893 ext 232 or 229, as there may be new legal changes on this matter on the Dominican Republic or if your divorce decree or judgement had stayed that you has been legally separated for at least 10 months. In that case, the Civil State Officer in the Dominican Republic through your wedding coordinator, might take this condition into account and could give a waive to the divorced bride based on that fact. (Please contact your wedding coordinator or us to help you find out a solution to your special condition). If a waive is given, you will have to translate also your divorce decree or judgement in order to get married in the Dominican Republic because there it is proved that you have been legally separated from your divorced husband more than 10 months. 3. If any of you had changed legally your names or last names, so that they will be different from the ones indicated on your birth certificate, you have to send that legal document to us for translation and legalization because your Dominican Marriage Certificate will come out on the name of the person indicated on the birth certificate, unless there is a legal document that change those names or last names for the bride or groom. If that it is your case please let us know ahead of time because there is an extra charge of US$140.00 US$ per this extra document. NOTE: If you have any of these situations or any other that it is not totally clear on this document, please contact us: Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m, except Canadian and Dominican Holidays.
  6. Hi @@Jc14! We had our documents translated at the DR Embassy. We brought both the long and short copies of our birth certificates, but they only needed the short one. Other than that you'll need your passports and copies of your single status form (I've attached the example that the embassy sent me). STATUTORY DECLARATION OF SINGLE STATUS.docx
  7. Hi everyone, Little update, here is what we found for my little nephew at the Bay and Children's Place. My sister ordered a different tie and suspenders for him from etsy as well. The older one will just wear beige shorts and a white top with rolled sleeves.
  8. I used https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/Wedideasand couldn't be happier with how they turned out
  9. Ok, slight brag warning... my bridesmaids are amazing. They threw a bridal luncheon for me (similar to a shower, but less gifts... I didn't want anything really since people are travelling to the wedding). I worked or volunteered at camps for years and years, and they had the whole thing "camp" themed.
  10. My honey has been practicing the sentence "I don't know... ask my wife" for the past few months. He does it in different voices and everything, so for his gift, I got him a white T-shirt that says "I don't know... ... ask my wife" from vistaprint. I'm going to give it to him at our rehearsal dinner. I also ordered him a tie clip from etsy with his initials, and our wedding date on the back that I'll give to him on our wedding day.
  11. Honestly it still feels a little surreal. I haven't done much "other" wedding stuff yet. My bridemaids have had my invite list for the shower since October, but only planned it for this upcoming weekend. Originally they wanted to do the bachelorette the weekend right before we left, and about half-way through March I started having anxiety issues about cleaning my house and running last minute errands and everything else. At that point it was too late to plan everything well spaced out, so now they're doing it all this weekend! I guess we'll see how it goes...
  12. Nope, it's the $60 per person, PLUS the wedding package, admin/officiant fees, and then the extra for the beach bash (Beach bash x 2 hours: US$ 16*# of guests above first 20 people). Once again, kids 10 and under are free.
  13. Thanks @@Meandhim! I actually have no idea where it is... but for us the experience is worth the cost. The cost is extra, because we're doing the buffet it's $60/person (except for children 10 and under - they're free). The other meals that I attached start at $40 per person (once again, kids 10 and under are exempted).
  14. Thanks @@Meandhim! They're very plain, but I printed it all on sparkly ivory paper, so they looked great in the end. This thread has been much been my home base - what exactly is a planning thread? (LOL is that a silly question?) That is our menu, I'll see if I can attach the private beach dinner menus that Carolina sent me. It's a buffet set up, but it means that everyone will get what they want. M4. MENU BBQ - ING.docx M1. SET MENU - INCLUDED.doc M2. VEGETARIAN & KIDS.ppt M3. KIT PUNTA CANA CONVENTION CENTER SALES KIT - ING.pdf
  15. I should add - I didn't have the font downloaded that we used for our invites, so I went to https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/sudtipos/mrs-blackfort/and "previewed" the text for each them, then print screen/copied it into word. Complicated, but saved from the cost of downloaded the font.
  16. Hi @@amandab36, you can find mine here http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/78958-bilingual-frenchenglish-templates/
  17. Hi everyone! This week I've been really busy doing all the print-outs and prepping the "get excited" bags. I created a thread with all our templates here http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/78958-bilingual-frenchenglish-templates/. They're all bilingual, so if you're in need of some french-english resources, go to town!
  18. Hi all! While planning our wedding, I was really struggling with finding things that could work both in French (for my partner's family) and in English (for my side), so I pretty much had to create all of our printouts. Here are our Luggage tags (ready to edit and print onto Avery straight edge double sided business cards from Word)We sealed these in self-seal holders from the dollar store (100 for $3), then punched a hole in them and strung a ribbon through. Shipping labels: guests and return addresses (ready to edit and print onto shipping labels from Word) Door tags (made on Publisher, I copied and pasted 3 images per page onto Word and did it bilingual recto-verso) Menus (on Publisher, but I copied and pasted 3 images per page onto Word and did it bilingual recto-verso) Schedule and a list of excursions for people to plan ahead (on Publisher). We printed these 2 per page and used aerosole glue to add a sturdier background. I've also done a few templates for the day itself, but I'll share those later Luggage Tags.docx Shipping Labels.docx door tags.pub Menus.pub Schedule and Excursions.pub
  19. Not sure if it's too late - but Ami Fer in Montreal had some great MoriLee bridesmaids dresses that would be beautiful as wedding dresses.
  20. Hi everyone! We're looking at having my 2 nephews as ring bearers (or ring security agents). One of them just turned a year old, and the other will be 10 at the time of the wedding (he's mostly there to help the little guy out!). I'm struggling with finding attire for them though - any suggestions for where I can find something? I've seen a few cute things online, but I don't want to spend too much. My partner will be wearing grey dress pants, white top, and a grey vest (with either a white or yellow tie, that part he won't tell me). I appreciate your feedback!
  21. Ohh and I spy game is cute! So far I have Do Not Disturb hangers (recto verso with English and French) Things to do (a list of excursions with a link to the website so that people can plan ahead and budget if they want to do something) A map of the hotel (I only have a general one though, I love how you want to personalize yours) Menus A schedule of the week (only the stuff we planned) A few things to do in Montreal (in case they're driving in the night before the flight) A little note from us
  22. Haha yeah we can be when we're together. We didn't get too much: - little decorative hats - sea shells - decks of cards - little baggies (to put advil in) - then some fun stuff for specific people (such as the rubber chicken). Then we'll add our printoffs
