  1. If you go to 5th ave in playa, I would love to know if there are flower vendors! Pics of your trip would also be awesome. Make sure you ask about pricing for a rehearsal dinner, if you are going to have one, and about substituting things from the menu, packages, etc. Also, does anyone know if the sound system you can rent includes lights? We are considering doing the iPod thing instead of a dj and I wondered about the lighting situation. Have fun with the site visit! So jealous...
  2. You'll have to give us a full report when you get back!! Congrats and enjoy yourself!
  3. I asked the same question and she told me 5.42 ft for a six person table. I think they have an 8 or 10 top so I guess it depends on which you are going to have. Is anyone getting a good deal on a rehearsal dinner? It's my latest hurdle. Someone on one of these threads said that they got a private dinner on the terrace for $20 pp without the $500 fee but when I mentioned it to Ana she acted like that was unheard of. Not sure what we'll end up doing... Quote Originally Posted by Chante anyone knows what is the size of a round table at the Jade ? 4. Here's a decent thread for a florist... http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/73955/maya-diseno-floral-great-affordable-florist-in-playa-cancun-area/70
  5. I'm not positive but I think that you just have to pay the fee for a day resort pass for a photographer instead of the $350. I still haven't decided on a photographer yet, but I'll let you know what I decide! Ana sent me 5 different weddings and I really wasn't impressed with the photographer. There is one review on here and I must say that her pics are the exception. I just really don't want to risk having pictures that I don't love. I might even bring someone from home. We'll see. As for flowers, if you use an outside florist but meet them outside the resort to bring in the flowers, then you don't have to pay the fee. The resort will put out all of the decorations that you bring in, however I'm sure there is a service fee. The florist will put everything together for you though. Another idea is do go to the market in Playa del Carmen and get your own but then you'd have to get a little creative with floral tape etc. I am positive that I can come up with gorgeous center pieces at a fraction of what they are charging!! As for the Divine pkg...I almost went with that instead of the Eternity until I read the fine print. It says that in 2012 they are replacing the DJ with a 45 minute soloist or guitar player, etc. After seeing that, I decided that there really wasn't much of a benefit to paying $1000 more for that package. I think we are just going to put together playlists on my ipad and then have my niece "dj". I think you can get away with being a little more casual with things like that when it's such a small group and in Mexico! My niece is so excited so I think everyone will have fun with it.
  6. From my understanding, they quit trading from the packages a while back. It sucks, but at least its not your negotiating skills! I could be wrong so maybe someone else will have a tip for us.
  7. That is fantastic that she said you can send stuff there. Thank God! What is everyone doing for a rehearsal dinner? Instead of a dinner, I think we are going to do a cocktail party but I'm still unsure if we should go off the resort or not. I'm hoping to negotiate with Ana so that we don't have to pay $500 for a private function plus drinks and apps.
  8. I forgot to that thank you for this link. I've checked it out and it is super helpful!
  9. Did you tell you anything about charging you to hold the items at the resort? I can't remember, but I feel like another bride got charged for sending things for them to hang on to. I really think that Playa will have some cool items for center pieces and even cheap flowers on 5th ave. I might even get the flowers myself or have one of my sisters do it for me. As long as I'm not too picky it shouldn't be a big issue I need to find out the size of the pergola so I can get fabric to decorate it, and the size of the tables so I can look at runners... sigh I put an ad on craigslist for a photographer to travel with us. I'm praying that someone will want a vacation in exchange for their services!!
  10. How did this work out for you? I really like the idea, but I'm wondering if people will still get gifts. I really don't want anyone to get us gifts or money since it's expensive for them to travel for our wedding.
  11. This looks great! Can't wait to see it on. What seller did you decide to use at dhgate?
  12. We did the Eternity pkg. I think al a carte was just too much and I didn't see any benefit to the divine pkg, but to be honest it has been a little while since I've crunched the numbers. I may revisit and check out the al a cart option just to see if I'll save anything. I think one of the big places that the resort tries to make money outside of the pkg is the decor. I'm going to try to keep things pretty simple and bring a few things, but I'm also planning on heading to walmart in playa to get a few item for center pieces etc. I'm planning on having 3 or so inspirational ideas to take with me and then get creative when I get there. If all else fails I'm sure I can group together a bunch of ivory candles! Since we're getting married over Easter weekend, I'll also have to bring stuff "from the easter bunny" for my 3 and 5 year olds so I really want to try not to commit to bringing too much. Traveling with kids sucks as it is! When are you getting married?
  13. I agree that you loose the drape when you decided to shorten the length. It still looks good but maybe you could add more volume underneath. Not sure if that would help or not. Sorry!
  14. Looking for help from some past brides. Did anyone who had their reception in the bamboo room use paper lanterns on the ceiling? I don't have a real good picture of the space and I really don't want it to look cluttered. Any feedback?
  15. Hi Ladies, Not sure I'll have too much new info for you, but I am also planning an April wedding at Now Jade. From reading way too many blogs/forums about the resort, I think I may have some helpful info. If you decide to do flowers from another vendor, you can just meet the person outside the resort and them bring the flowers in yourself saving you the $350. Many brides have done this since the resorts prices are really expensive. As for a DJ, I am still unsure but I may just do the ipod thing and have a designated person "in charge". I think we'll have about 50 people so I've been looking for places to cut everywhere! Apparently they serve enough hor d'oeuvers for 40 people during the cocktail party so that cuts some cost. One planner also pointed out that since there is already alcohol and a bartender, it isn't necessary to pay extra pp for drinks either. If you are having any kids at your wedding, they are half price for dinner (under the age of 12) so that helps! I have yet to figure out a photographer...I feel like everything is so cheesy! (and expensive) Hope that helped a little.
  16. So happy that I found this thread! Many of you have said that you are glad that you did the OOT bags but not many people have mentioned what they put in them that was so great. I really want to add useful items but I don't want to spend a ton either. I'm also trying to make it to Mexico with out 6 bags of luggage!
  17. Sarella727- I'm getting married there too and I'm so bummed to hear this! Dang it...maybe if we stress that they are biodegradable and focus on the "green" I'm bummed.
  18. I agree with taking off the second row of beading. Other than that I think it looks great. The lace on the bottom looks really good. Look at it this way, even if you have to have some alterations it will still probably be less than your inspiration dress. Post pics when you get it!
  19. Beautiful photos! I've been searching for a photographer with that style and I'm having the worst time! Everything looked great. Can't wait to see your full review. Congrats!!
  20. I found this dress on Craigslist today in Portland, OR...I'm sure you could offer her less and at least you'd be getting an original so it's less of a gamble.
