  1. This website is fantastic and the ladies on it are great! There are tons of reviews and threads about different places depending on your budget and what you are looking for! I found my wedding venue on here Also, yes it's possible to plan it by next year, we got engaged in Feb and are getting married this November.
  2. That's really good! Our wedding is off the resort and a mariachi band was 575! For the same amount of time. If it was 375 I would of splurged but yeah.. Have to cut corners where we can. I keep reminding myself that we are doing really good for planning a wedding in 9 months and paying for all of it cash... Just sucks when you want to do more stuff! Ha ha. Oh the hidden costs come at you for sure. But all in all, you seem a lot like myself where you guys are splurging only on some things and having a clear head with others. Rich and I want a beautiful wedding day but we keep taking a step back and asking ourselves if we really need some things. It's hard to do that but we have come around to other ways of doing it cheaper this way too Oh man.. And the new ideas, YEP that's me. I avoid wedding websites (minus this one and Pinterest) like the plague so I don't see anything. Watch me come back with more after the wedding fair next week!
  3. This isn't in a store but I got cotton totes from bagiva.com for a really good price and they are awesome quality! Got 25 for around 30 bucks with taxes and what not The shaving kits are a really good deal!
  4. Most definitely! I wanted a mariachi band sooooo bad but we are already way over our budget - I think they are fantastic though and would make a great addition to a wedding!
  5. Hey- we just got a credit to our final balance, it was nice it ended up being 1575 cheaper! Sure helps when you go over your budget! LOL
  6. I was about the say the same thing! Deodorant all the way. Or some brides have suggested if you have a plug in close by, getting one of those dorm room fans and putting it under your dress! (Might work!)
  7. Hey look at it this way. You can always renew your vows on the beach a year later or so with just one another and still have your special time. there are a lot options around the area, the shawnessy barn is a really nice one. We have some venues around Okotoks that are gorgeous too (Saskatoon farm etc) There is also that wedding show next weekend where I am sure you get some inspiration. Maybe you can have a beach themed reception?
  8. Love air transat! We got our rebate from them today and it helped with the costs of the wedding for sure! and a travel voucher for future travel WestJet is awesome for Canadian travel, don't get me wrong but I love Air transat to the Caribbean
  9. I'll keep my eyes pealed for a hair clip for you Calgarybride! if you do see something you like that is in the states, we make Montana trips every now and then and I get stuff shipped to the border. I could always grab it for you and meet you at Chinook or somewhere. Just an offer. I found that getting stuff I wanted from the states and shipped to the border was extremely cheaper and I didn't have to sacrifice getting what I wanted. I'm all for updo's. I really really wanted to wear my hair down but it falls out so fast and I know it will look like crap and get sweaty hours later, so updo for this girl. My sister in law is doing photos for us a few days later since our ceremony is at sunset and we won't have enough time, so I will do my hair down for those ones. Updo's are so glamorous in my opinion and keep you from getting sweaty. OH and PS. You do not even want to know what I paid for my veil.. UGHH. However, I will be using and abusing that thing.
  10. They are really good quality. I got mine months ago and have started putting them on our bubba's, they look really good I can't wait to post my planning thread here in a month or so time when I have all my crafting and sh*t done!
  11. here is the back of the dress. Pretty long as well. I'm going to get a bustle though
  12. Love your dresses Calgarybride & snorfle ! I personally wouldn't shorten it, I think it's perfect. You should see how long mine is LOL. a bustle would be perfect IMO. I concur with if you removed it completely, it would take away from the dress. and for posture? I was on buzzfeed a few weeks back and there was a whole post dedicated to doing the "turtle" I can't post links on my work computer or copy and paste for some dumb reason but it was hilarious, however very true when it came to posture. Not lying! Sounds funny but yeah. I just searched for it on google and you type in turtle wedding posture it's the first video
  13. A7X LOVE the dress! So gorgeous!! Your wedding is coming up so soon, you must be excited!!
  14. Hahaha. Yeah we have bets on how much some of my relatives can drink in one sitting at an all inclusive, so it will be quite entertaining. I'm the same, I crave chips and what not when I am drunk and will stock up on some from the store during the day so I am prepared when I get back to the hotel. I love the snack bar but sometimes all you need is bag of chips and a chocolate bar to make this girl happy. If they had 5 cent candies available, that would be golden
  15. Hangover relief is the one thing I am regretting not picking up but I had a great idea the other night when trying to fall asleep. As our venue is 30 minutes away from the resort and we have vans transporting guests to and from, I was debating picking up two flats of Gatorade at sams club and picking up some mini bags of chips to hand out at the end of the night. I think it would be hilarious - or do you think too tacky. keep in mind that it's a ukranian/newfie wedding, so most people WILL be drunk. and of course I would "wedding" the Gatorade and chips and put it into a fancy bag with glitter or shit, not just have a flat of it.
  16. Thanks ladies. I was torn about getting more for the gifts as you see the planning threads on here but each one of you is right with the different points you made. That's initially why we spent less too, because we know people would use the bubba kegs 100% for sure (I even got personalized stickers for them I've already created a passport style welcome book for the OOT bags, so I think with the snacks and such, we will be good. Thanks ladies, it's always nice to come on here and get advice because you'll actually give it to me and understand P.S- We are getting pizza as a midnight snack for our guests at the wedding which is kind of a surprise, so I guess we are kind of doing something. Our seating chart involves beers too, so I guess when you narrow it down, we are doing stuff for our guests. I just always worry
  17. We are going pretty minimal on them as we spent most of our budget on 20 oz bubba kegs for each guest. We will be putting little bags of chips and a few small things in there but all in all we aren't going too crazy. Is anyone else in the same boat? I see all these amazing OOT bags but with spending so much on the bubba's and the wedding as a whole, we can't afford to make them super full of stuff for 51 people. I hope people don't think we're being cheap!
  18. How is everyone's planning going? I am 63 days out until we leave! EEEP!! I feel like I have so much to do still... Looking forward to the wedding fair next weekend in Calgary and getting my dress sized next month after boot camp is done
  19. I was clicking on this to reply but acw above said everything and then some. Very true words. if you aren't able to get the group rate from AM resorts/WestJet, I would sit down with your fiancé and decide what's important. Good luck
  20. Can you switch tour agents to air transat or such? or switch resorts? That's so sh*tty that this is happening to you, you think certain people want to be there for you and then they completely shit the bed on it, which is a disappointing feeling. *hugs* I would try and see if they will honor the pricing. It's worth a try. Or seeing if you can switch resorts or even extend the deadline a bit.
  21. I will definitely let you know how I make out! When you price out taking a taxi for everyone and the time, honestly it's about the same. I don't want to feel rushed on my wedding day but I didn't want the makeup and hair people on the resort either, so this was my way of doing it. BToppings on here has done the same thing as me as well, so we will have two of us to report back
  22. Most likely at Ethos. I am just worried if I try someone new and it doesn't end up being what I like, I'll be hooped. It's so expensive I tell you to get it altered!
  23. Hotel room all together was 165.41 for a beach front room in Akumal (which is not even a 5 minute taxi drive away). We were going to go to Playa Del Carmen to get it done when we heard we couldn't bring them on the resort but honestly, it wasn't worth the hassle of getting everyone up super early, driving 30 minutes to PDC and then rushing back. Akumal is one of my favorites, if not favorite beach ever, so I'm super stoked to get our hair and makeup done there. We ended up getting a beach front, ground floor room so the ladies (there are 10 of us all together) can come and go out of the room as they please on to the beach or just sitting outside. and since it's only 5 minutes away, we don't have to rush Worth it in my opinion!
