  1. I went with the Italian menu.... it was AMAZING!!!! Best food we ate alllll week. We told our guests ahead of time so they didnt have to waste a night going to the italian restaurant...since there are so many other options. Everyone raved about the food we chose and they were very accommodating... I am a vegetarian and i had 2 other guests who were veggie too. The presentation and taste was a 10 out of 10. Most of our guests went to the Italian restaurant the next night just to have it again! I think we chose the best food menu for our wedding... it was classic and still had that formal but fun wedding dinner menu feel. I would recommend it to anyone looking for the same thing. I have some pictures of the food too..not sure if i uploaded them in my profile but i can add a few later.
  2. They had everything set up during the week we were there... it looked so fun... however it rained for about an hour just before it was supposed to start so they cancelled it. I dont even think they re-scheduled..it was just cancelled.
  3. Hey Ashley... Same thing happend to us and we booked a year and half in advance... we chose the 2pm ceremony time... and even tho it was pretty hot it worked out perfectly. Our guests didnt mind the 2pm time.... they went and cooled off in the pool, had some drinks and hung out in between ceremony and reception.... It was great for us... we went back to our room to cool off and spend a few moments together... then had a solid 2 hours for pictures... which.. at a resort that huge and beautiful...you will need !!! all in all it worked out perfectly with the 2pm ceremony. the only time we ran into another wedding was after our reception when we all went to the lounge above the blue lagoon... we didnt want the sweaty gross club so we went to the lounge and there were 2 other brides up there.
  4. Hi kellydawn, we stayed in a honeymoon villa... it was beautiful !!!! woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the ocean every morning.. watching cruie ships in the distance from our bed. the rooms are stunning !!
  5. I felt the same way... kind of got anxious and i didnt want to miss out on booking anything. But as soon as you get there and see how it works youll be like ohhh its sooo not worth stressing about annnnything. Dont worry.. they wont forget about you
  6. YES!!!! Normal makeup will sweat off and run down your face... with airbrush you dont even feel like you're wearing anything at all.. its so lightweight and it lasted ALLLL day and ALLL night. My ceremony was at 2pm and dinner was at 6pm ... it was blistering hot and i had a heavy dress on but my makeup stayed all day and night. Having said that.... my eye makeup/eyeshadow did melt off a little so i re-touched that up between the ceremony and reception with my own makeup .... and you could bring a powder ...my face did get a BIT ... llike a little bit shiny right at the end of the night..after all the dancing. Just a quick dusting of powder would help keep it matte ... but i didnt do that. I literally had to scrub my face for 20 mins to get the makeup off... and I was still scrubbing it off the next morning.
  7. Hi Lena, For the ceremony at the gazebo... they initially charged us $500 to rent an ipod dock for the ceremony ONLY. We told them to forget it since we had hired the steel drum band and didnt require the ipod dock. I'm sure if you have your own they will hook that up and use it... not sure though. Otherwise... the minister uses a microphone and they still used the sound system for our vows and the entire ceremony (by entire i mean the whole 20 mins lol). Sound should not be an issue at the gazebo.. i'm pretty sure the whole one side of the resort heard our entire wedding.
  8. Hi Michelle, or anyone else wondering about flowers..... I had real-touch flowers made for myself, MOH and 3 bouts for the guys.. and I ended up using the bouquet that came with the wedding package. We went with Waves of Love and the colour of the bouquest was beautiful !!! As soon as the coordinator brought it i forgot all about my stiff and uptight fake bouquet (which the colors were off too) The bouquet was blue hydrangeas and it was beautiful. It matched the flowers at the ceremony as well... the 2 big bouquets infront of the gazebo. They transferred the 2 large arrangements to the reception as well... 1 went on the head table (we did sweetheart style) and 1 went on the cake table. They were MASSIVE and so beautiful and absolutely enough. Unless there is a specific style you want... i wouldnt pay for fake flowers... it was a huge waste of money. The resort bouquets were beaufitul.
  9. Dont worry happyfamily, They may not have responded to you yet because your wedding is so far away. They literally will not finalize/plan your wedding until you actually get to Jamaica. As long as your date is reserved and your dinner reservation (which restaurant) you want is in place you should be okay... everything else gets done what seems like very last minute for us... but on time for them. I think the only other thing we reserved in advance was the dinner menu 1 month in advance and the steel drum band and zurielamaka show.. which we reserved 2 weeks before we left.
  10. Mel... i am curious tho.... what do u mean regular room? Are you staying on the jamaica or lady hamiltonside? Because allof the rooms at the resort are junior suites.
  11. Mel... i booked 10 months in advance and we were able to reserve 30 rooms no problem. Not everyone was in the same villa...but we were pretty close. The issue might be that you are booking too far in advance. Most travel companies dont even have rates until june for the following year. The only thing i would do is reserve your wedding day/time with the resort.... a 300 fee .... and then checkwith travel companies as it gets closer For april 2014... i dont think rates will even be out until after june 2013. They have a lot of rooms there... i dont think availability....esp in april will be a problem. Just my advice though.
  12. Hi chelsea, Poisedon is very nice... uts on the far side of the resort... pretty seckuded and on top of the nicest beach they have. You will see the best sunset views from this restaurant. My reception was at the blue lagoon.... very nice and large.. but not much privacy from other guests. Your wedding will be beautiful.
  13. I have a seating chart template for the blue lagoon. We did 7 round tables with 8 people...set up lkind of like how the 5 looks on a dice and then 2 more at the top on either side for our parents tables. Worked out perfectly. Most of your planning and finalizing will takeplace when u get there.
  14. Hey everyone... i was married last May at the GPLH ... check out my review and profile for some pictures and info... if you have any questions i dont mind answering them!
  15. The reception was at the Blue Lagoon restaurant. We had a lot of room.. it was very comfortable for the 48 of us.
  16. Hi Erica, I was married at the GPLH last May ... we did the Italian menu not a buffet, so i can't really comment on the buffet options. The Italian menu was absolutely amazing... most of our guests ended up going to the italian restaurant the next night to eat it again. When you are in Jamaica you will meet with your WC a day or two prior to your wedding. She will take you to the location and backup rain location and go over how things will be set up. Keep in mind they do up to 4 weddings a day so just make sure you have your main options pre-planned and booked through the WC (location, music options, food options, cake flavor, etc) Any decor that you bring from home.... you will be responsible for setting up. My mom and I went to the reception hall after the ceremony and set up our centerpieces.... and we had to change all of the place cards around (they put them out but not all the couples were beside each other lol) We also had to set up a table for the ipod player since we brought one instead of paying $500 to rent one. If there are any "extras" that you want set up or displayed that you are bringing from home... they might set them up for you (make sure you ask your WC) ... but regardless... i would DEFINITELY designate at least one person to double check and ensure things are done the way you want.
  17. Hey JA2012, I couldnt agree with you more... I wanted a natural look as well... but i always wear eye makeup and ALWAYS do my own makeup for everything .... i dont trust anyone else doing it because i look either WAY too overdone or not enough... but i thought i AM the BRIDE after all... i didnt want to do my own makeup i wanted to be pampered and i gotta be a star of the show lol. I absolutely loved what she did ... i -amiled Rashel a picture that i found on google of ,,i believe it was hayden pannetierre (spelling!?) at some awards show... natural but still glowing and done up... and thats exactly what she did ... it was so perfect. Timeless and classy. Not clowney at all. I was very impressed with what she did ... she even incorporated my colors (brown and aqua blue) into my eyeshadow ... subtle but looked beautiful. She was so much fun to work with too !
  18. you can search rashel edwards on facebook... http://www.facebook.com/ChasityArtistry?ref=ts&fref=ts#!/MAKE.UP.ARTISTRY.JAMAICA?fref=ts also...check out my picture gallery. I used Rashel's assistant... she was amazing and i absolutely recommend using her. Very professional, fun and talented.
  19. Hi Lena, The speakers and mic should be included for the CEREMONY. (Not sure about ipod as we had the steel drum band and didnt require an ipod for the ceremony). The $500 charge is for the RECEPTION. I strongly suggest investing in your own at home for muuuch less. I brought my own for the reception and it worked great... and we used it all week at the beach. The ceremony and reception are 2 different parts to the wedding in terms of cost and planning... The only thing that overlaps is the package decor. For example with waves of love... the flowers used during the ceremony are moved to the cake table and head table during the reception. You will need to bring your own centerpieces for the reception.... they do not provide anything. I believe you can purchase some through the resort but they are ridiculously expensive.... and if u plan of leaving things behind for future brides... please know that they will throw it out and not pass it on.
  20. Hi Catrina, My wedding was actually back in May. I contacted Rashel via email: [email protected] If you are booking off-site hair and makeup... you dont use the spa at all. They would need to go to your room and you will get ready there. You will need to make sure they have an area to plug in a curling iron, blow dryer and the airbrush machine. I cleared off the the desk area and they did my hair and makeup there.
  21. I booked hair and airbrush makeup through Rashel. She was booked for my day... so I booked her assistant for airbrush.. Antoinette Bailey. She was amazing. Check out my pictures in my profile. The airbrush makeup was well worth it!!!
  22. We did both... it was definitely worth it the splurge. For our one day the steel drum band made the ceremony.. totally differentiated it from the traditional ones we saw all week that used ipods. Everyone absolutely loved it.. they played while everyone was being seated and waiting.. then during signing and after the ceremony for the champagne toast. they were very good. The zurielamaka show was kinda the same for our reception... differentiated it from allllll the other weddings we saw. we had guests come from all over the resort to see what was going on. Everyone is still talking about how amazing it was. I would highly recommend both the steel drum band and the show.
  23. I was also married at the GPLH... there are a few really good feeds on this website with TONS of info.. i posted a few pictures... click on my profile and go to "default pictures" album. Also.. u will see soem of the more active GPLH discussion feeds in my "subscriptions" area i posted a review and definitely recommend the blue lagoon... however be careful with your reception timing as a band does play directly overhead.
  24. I had this show at my wedding... it was absolutely mind blowing! loved it... was beyond our expectations!! very fun and authentic... Well worth it! I'm not providing a full review as i do not want to ruin the details of the show for any future brides. it was very fun and well worth it!!!! definitely recommend zurielamaka!
