  1. No electrical problems what so ever. They actually updated their wiring the day we left. It's an amazing place right on the beach. If you'd like I can put you in touch with Greg who runs the villa and he can answer any questions you have.
  2. Check into The Dazzling Details and Mishka Designs. I haven't heard anything on either one of them having an opinion one way or another on the sexual orientation of their clients., what I don know is that they do really creative and fun events. I had talked to both of them and gotten some help and suggestions and wasn't even a client. Both were really nice and helpful and just truely seemed to want happy brides.
  3. jmred, Villa Encanto is awesome. We are friends with one of the owners and have stayed there before. There are only five bedrooms in the main house, but they also have a media room downstairs with a couch that pulls out into a bed and a two bedroom guest house behind the pool so it actually sleeps 16. You may want to ask about these options and what the price adjustment would be. My only suggestion is that you may want to work with a local planner to save yourself the headache that goes along with all of the extra details of a villa wedding in Mexico. Depending on your number of guests you may be able to rent your place settings and glassware directly from the villa and have Maria cater for you. She is an amazing cook. The villa is also very close the The Royal Decameron, an all inclusive resort; The Four Seasons and a few other smaller hotels if you have guests that are not staying with you but would like to be close. The Daxxling Details has done several weddings there and if you search their blog you can see some great pictures. They've even put dance floors on the beach to maximize space. Let me know if you have any questions. I also have photos of our last stay there.
  4. It will test your patience and make you grow as a person. I've learned to roll with the punch on a whole other level. You just have to go with the flow and know that somehow it will all work out
  5. We fly out in 5 days! It is crazy how fast time flys. I did not expect all of the ups and downs that I have experienced planning this "small' and "simple" destination wedding in Bucerias, Mexico. We have definitely saved some money and spent double. A budget doesn't help when a quote in writing means nothing. I have shed more than my fair share of tears. Especially this week as we lost the villa for our entire family and were forced to have them book their own rooms in hotels. Somehow it all worked out in the same day! I have been surpirsed by how difficult simple things become while dealing with a foreign country. You'd think they want your money?! Google Translator has become my very best friend. I am still waiting on the final rsvp for several guests. And I don't even care at this point. Paper lanterns should arrive by Friday. My fiance and several groomsmen / bridesmaids still haven't altered their suits and dresses. Still don't have belts for the groomsmen or the groom! Still don't have a place for our Rehearsal / Welcome dinner and no one seems to care. As of now the Itinerary that I wanted to send everyone has gone out the window. Guess we're going to have to wing it. Finally came to terms with become a "crazy bride" yesterday while crying and yelling at my fiance on the phone about how he'll never understand why it's important that people know where we're going to dinner ahead of time. No an itinerary is not annal retentive! No matter how low maintenance and relaxed you think that are, planning a destination wedding will test you on levels you've never seen before and bring out the side of you that you swore didn't exist. We signed up for an adventure and boy did we get one. Let's see what happens once we take off.
  6. Finally applied the Fake Bake self tanner last night. The color guide made it super easy. Had my fiance do my back where I couldn't reach. Woke up this morning with the perfect glow and not a single streak I rubbed lotion on my knees, elbows, ankles, toes and fingers before applying and used a dry cloth to buff as well. I love the color!
  7. Just ordered all of my lanterns from www.asianimportstore.com AMAZING prices. I put it off until the last minute. It's Wednesday afternoon and we fly out on Monday. For an extra $7.00 the promised them to me by Friday. We're both in CA no sure if that makes a difference. Got 25 ranging from 8" to 20" in fuchsia, orange and yellow for under $70 total. Super nice company and great for the budget!
  8. The bags makeup bags and totes are from www.wholesaleaccessorymarket.com. Super cute and super cheap. You may have to spend a minimum of $50.00 though. I have five bridesmaids and got five of each with shipping for that.
  9. Does anyone who already got married have photos of the lanterns that they used and the final number used? Just curious to see how it all worked out.
  10. A good friend of mine who has an amazing "fake" tan recommended this to me. If you order it off Amazon it's half the price. I got mine a few days ago and am just about to try it. I'm not looking for a dark tan, just a little bit of color. Wish me luck.
  11. Neither my fiance or I like cake and have no desire to spend a bunch of money on something that doesn't taste good so we're not doing it. It's our wedding and we're paying for it. We're doing a dessert table with a variety of traditional Mexican desserts. We did really want to do flaming desserts like cherries jubilee and bananas foster, but aren't sure if that's going to be possible. We'd reather have everything taste good and be fun.
  12. We're getting married at Villa Encanto in Bucerias www.villaencantomexico.com. It's an adorable 7 bedroom villa on the beach. We knew from the very beginning that a hotel and ballroom were never going to work for us.
  13. I just got some gorgeous CZ earrings on Etsy from Designbykara. Love them! Super fast shipoping and great price. Can't beat $29 and free shipping
  14. I'm actually not sure. I have five girls so my order came out to $53.04 after everything, but that was the bags, makeup bags (set of three in each), a funky little button with each girl's initial on it & shipping.
  15. I just got the beach bags and makeup bags and they are SUPER CUTE!! Quality is great, especially for the super cheap price. I definitly recommend ordering from them.
  16. They're set to arrive Monday the 7th. The names on them are so cute, but I didn't do it since it's not really the girls style. But I did order cute little buttons with their initials on then to pin on each bag. 75 cents each I figured that they can take them off if they don't like them. I'll let you know when they arrive.
  17. For anyone who had their rehearsal dinner / welcome parties there can you give me an idea of what your menu and pricing was like. Thanks!
  18. I am working with Iris at Iris Designs www.irisdesign.com.mex I am a floral design myself in Los Angeles so turning my own wedding flowers over to someone else is scary on a whole different level. And hard since I know what everything cost here wholesale! It is true that they have to import a lot of flowers to Mexico. We do that here too and they're still not as expensive. I was originally going to have my suppliers ship all of my flowers in and I'd do them myself, but none of them will deal with Mexico. Customs are tough and a lot of times flowers don't make it through, arrive way too late or die. The ones that will only ship them there, you are left to clear Customs on your own and if they don't get through you're out of time and out of luck. Plus the taxes on imports are huge. I found Iris through a wedding planner while looking for reccomendations of florists that they use. I met with them both in Puerto Vallarta. Said planner came along to translate since Iris's English is not very good and also to see if there was anything that I'd like to work with her on. I learned a very important lesson. Everyone in Mexico IS NOT flakey. After waiting for months for price quotes on different possibilities and crazy prices and wrong information I decided to bypass the useless middleman and go straight to Iris since I thought we hit it off and she would have wanted my business. Two words: GOOGLE TRANSLATOR! AMAZING! It will translate any language to and from English. I took a chance and wrote her directly and she got back to me within an hour. I sent pictures and specific flower requests. She did not try to over charge me at all. Everything is very realistic based on their flower cost. She loves what she does and her style of work is very much on par with what I do here in Los Angeles. I highly reccomend her and don't feel that you are at the mercy of locals because you don't live in Mexico.
  19. Mine's getting really close. March 10th at The Villa Encanto in Bucerias. 36 day and counting!
  20. We're getting married in Bucerias which is 17 miles north of Vallarta. Any reccomendations for hair and makeup that will come to us and isn't outrageous?
  21. I just ordered ADORABLE beach totes and makeup bags for my girls. I plan on stuffing the bags with all sorts of goodies for Mexico. This site sells everything wholesale. I think the totes were $4.50 each! www.wholesaleaccessorymarket.com
  22. Trying to find terra cotta tequila cups similar to these but having zero luck. Anyone know where I can find them?
