That is everybodys response. My brother and his wife had a huge wedding in our area. My sister in laws parents paid for the whole reception (200 people) and my parents paid for all the extras. We do not have that luxury and are paying for the whole thing ourselves and our main focus is to get a house. To spend a fortune on a wedding here in NYC would be crazy since we want a house within a year of the wedding. We are sticking by our guns. The close friends and family we want there, will be there. Most of his family isn't coming because of the location. It doesn't seem to bother my fiance. Just stick with the wedding that you and your hubby to be want and focus on that. All the other people that don't like the idea can always look at pictures! I live in central NJ and totally feel your pain! If we wanted to do our wedding on the beach in NJ and then at a resteraunton the ocean, wewould be spending close to $75,000!!! Being that my FI and I are paying for this ourselves and own our hous, there is no possible way we can afford that! However, so many people cant grasp the concept of a DW. We have gotten so much negative feedback from people. I'm done with getting stressed over it. Whoever doesn't come will def be missing out
  2. Thanks girls! You definately gave me some reassurance. I'm hoping that as the wedding gets closer she will get over it and get excited. If not, I just have to brush it off, move on and understand that at least I am coming into a family that will give my FI and I support.
  3. I've been very upset lately with my family, especially my mom. My fiance and I were recently engaged and I feel like I have no support from my mom or her side of the family. When I told her we were going to Mexico all she could say was "I don't know how you are going to get me on a plane!" However, 2 years ago she flew to Miami for a cruise and a year before that to Jamaica! I feel like she is being so selfish because we aren't doing what she wants us to do! We are paying for our wedding ourselves with NO help from anyone! I don't think it's that hard to ask of her to fly to Mexico for a few days to go on vacation and see her only daughter get married!! Also, none of my aunts and uncles from my mother's side of the family called to say congrats. My fiances whole family called and we got an engagement card from my friend's parents who I've only met once! Its so frustrating and I feel like its ruining our whole newly engaged experience. Thanks for letting me vent!
  4. Aww poor girl! At least things worked out. I'm a bridesmaid for my MOH's wedding on Friday. I had my fitting and when I picked up my dress last week, the dress BARELY fits me! Sometimes these things happen I guess. Thank god for spanx!!
  5. We are leaning towards him after reading his reviews and seeing his work. That's the style we are going for and his price is within budget.
  6. Hi! I sent you a reply through your webpage! Provided in the email is my contact information. Hopefully I'll be hearing from you!
  7. I'm getting married October 21, 2011 and we are planning to send our save the dates by November and invitations at the end of January. I generally have the worry that we are inviting too many people (first wave 100). But from what it sounds like by what you girls are saying, maybe 1/2 will actually book? Most of these are family members and close friends but there are others that I would like to invite past that initial 100. Do you think I should go for it or wait for the first deadline?
  8. Hi again! So after seeing the price list for Del Sol, we have started looking at some other options. Although very disappointed that del sol is a tad bit out of our budget, we found some other options. Does anyone have any opinions on Sascha Gluck or Claudia Rodriguez? Thanks
  9. Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. My fiance and I recently got engaged and we booked out wedding at Valentin Imperial for October 21, 2011. So far I have been in touch with Ana and she has been very helpful. I read most of this site and got a lot of great tips from everyone. We visited the resort last October and it was absolutely beautiful! We said that when the time to get married came, this would be the place! We obviously have a lot of time to plan, yet we are most concerned with photography at this point. We're debating on whether to use Blue Lens or spend the extra money on Del Sol. If anyone has any pictures from Blue Lens do you mind if I take a look at them? Thanks everyone!
