I'm actually about to get my ring appraised. From my understanding, once I get it appraised I put it under my home owners insurance for what the appraisal was by the jeweler. I would go back to the jeweler that your FI bought the ring from and ask why the appraisal value was different from the purchase value. Hopefully this helps!

So, I've decided that I'm going to start doing P90x. I started in the summer and was getting excellent results. I haven't had time to go through this entire forum, but was wondering how things are going for you ladies?

Barbiegirl 27, what resorts are you considering? I just went through that process and it was very overwhelming. Maybe I can help! I did price comparisons based on Jan./Feb of this year. There were many factors that went into picking a resort but one of them was affordability for our guests.

Wow, you girls rock. My last post was a couple days ago and have quit a few posts to go through! Mexibride, I'm technically done with classes but decided to take additional classes for a certificate program. I'm also in the process of writing my thesis. I can't wait to get done with my masters! My plan is to take next year off and hopefully start a Phd program in 2012 after we get married. Prettypigpig, thanks again for the compliments on the ring. I love teaching, I don't think I will ever be completely removed from education. Are you thinking about teaching at a community college? Linhy, Congrats on finding a dress! That is so exciting. As far as the booking process, I think we are going to do the flight/land deals rather than a group rate b/c everyone will be arriving/departing on different days. Doing a group deal would make me crazy!

I'm anxiously waiting for the rates to come out too. My FI and I are getting married Jan. 15, 2011 at Riu Palace Las Americas. I can't wait for my family and friends to start booking.

Ladies, I love the pictures of your dogs! We have an English Bulldog and he is ridiculously spoiled! Good news: Talked to my dad today, and it looks like him and I are going to do a father/daughter trip to visit the Riu resorts. Anyone getting married in April? We will hopefully be there April 8th-13th. We are going to stay at RPLA but will def. be visiting RPRM! I feel a sense of relief that I'm going to be able to visit the resorts. Hopefully a wedding coordinator will have time to meet with me. One last thing, anyone doing P90x to get in shape? I started last summer and loved it. I was really skeptical at first but it really does work. Let me know if anyone else is currently doing it or going to start, so we can support each other!

Josh proposed to me at a Dreams in Nuevo Vallarta and it was wonderful. As far as surviving graduate school while working, chairing a committee in Junior League, and planning a wedding. Well, it's tough but I love everything I'm doing. When things get difficult, try to stay positive and remind yourself that there is a reason for doing all of it. When I'm sleep deprived which is often, I remind myself I can sleep when I'm dead. It will all be worth it! If you ever need to vent, I'm here! I also figured having a destination would be less stressful. It is to a certain extent but I'm a little bit of a "control freak," and we plan on doing a lot of things on our own like invitations. I had made a couple of posts when this thread first started, however, things have been crazy busy for me being a graduate student, working almost full time, and to top it off I've had this horrible cold for pretty much the entire month of February. Anyways, I'm back! We are really excited because the resort, Riu Palace Las Americas, just accepted Jan. 15th, 2011 as our wedding date! We haven't signed any agreements yet because I have "convinced" Josh on taking a mini-vacation to visit some resorts in April. I'm actually shopping for rates this weekend. Well, I'm glad to be back!

Hey Jenna, I went on Rui Place Riviera Maya's website today and requested Jan. 15th, 2011 as our wedding date. I''ll let you know when I hear a response from them. I wouldn't get too stressed about not getting a confirmation yet as you already put your request in, therefore, you'll most likely take precedence over others that do so after you. I also talked to a TA today and she said that they normally don't release air/resort packages for a couple more months. However, tt does seem a little odd that they won't tell you yes b/c they do weddings everyday but who knows. Keep on them : ) I've heard that resorts are generally slow at getting back to brides. Remember their on "Caribbean time."

Welcome Nicola, Every free second I have had I have spent it looking for resorts, and I can relate to you completely. I even have a spreadsheet with all the resorts with prices for this year so I can look at the price differences among the resorts. While doing my research, I actually found this site and it has helped me a lot. I spent all of yesterday reading the Riu Palace posts, and have decided that, that is the resort we want to get married at! What other resorts were you considering? Even though I don't have a date confirmed or a resort confirmed, I found "the dress." I am also planning a home reception so I've started doing a lot of research for that too. Congrats!

At last, I found a resort that I want to have our wedding at! Thank-you for all your posts, I found it extremely helpful and couldn't be more excited about finally picking a resort. I know my guests will be too. Josh and I plan to get married in either January or February of 2011. I'm going to call a travel agent tomorrow to see what month is less expensive. Anyone recommend a travel agent? I'm currently working a wedding specialist with destinationweddings.com, however, she has made me very frustrated. Anyways, I look forward to getting to know all of you!
