  1. msglave, Your pics are beautiful! I'm so jealous! Jess and I are STILL waiting for our from November. They were both slated for 8 weeks, and here we are at almost 11 and 13 weeks :-(. I couldn't agree with you more about the DJ and light up dance floor. It was soooo fun and it made the pics (from what I've seen of family pics) incredible. The lighting he brings is awesome too
  2. Yes, you do have to pay the 350.00 fee for an outside vendor photographer. What I did to sort of get around it was get a room for him the night of the wedding. It was half the price to do that as opposed to the vendor fee (it also prevented the non- Real resort guest pricing for cocktail, food, toast/cake). My sister in law and her family (kids) stayed next door at the Gran Porto and we would go over there every other day and on the first night had the Meet and Greet in the Grand Porto Lobby because Royal guests can go anywhere over there, but Gran Porto guests can not go to the Royal unless they are adults and have paid for a pass. One person stayed at the 4-star beach club place and regretted not staying with everyone else at the Royal. For the ceremony and wedding, however, Gran Porto guests can come over without a pass. Children are only allowed at The Royal receptions if you have a private reception (but they cannot come to your room- like flower girl for example). They will also quickly tell the parents to have them shape up if they are throwing tantrums/crying lol (this happened to us with our flower girl lol). I had ceremony at the Gazebo (Royal), cocktail reception in the garden area (near the gazebo), and reception on the beach in front of the gazebo. It was a nice flow because we changed locations and guests didn't have to wait for setup because each place was different. We took pictures (husband and i, and then wedding party) during the one hour cocktail reception which was immediately after the ceremony. This provided great flow for our guests because they never had to stand around. We finished our pics right at reception time. We missed out on the cocktail reception, but it didn't really bother me. I will say that if you don't want to miss it, pics before the ceremony might be a good idea ("first look") and also if you are getting married after Daylight Saving Time change in the fall (because you lose the light fast on that side of the resort by the ocean) I hope that helps!
  3. It didn't feel real to me either until we had our wedding at the Royal :-). Great job on the losing weight- can you lose some for me too?;-) Your wedding party can cut it off, but remember to keep it because they will ask for it when you get it replaced at concierge/lobby WOW!!!!! Tell him he did an AMAZING job. what a beautiful personal touch
  4. I'm not sure about the price, but my brother had the presidential suite, and although he said it was very nice and all, they ended up switching to master because the view made the difference. He also said it was " a lot of room " for two people lol. Maybe you would like it though :-) Thank you! We had so much fun! :-)
  5. LOL I had platform flips because i was nervous to walk in anything else (you couldn't even see them lol) I got mine here: http://www.bridalshoes.com/wedding-flip-flops I liked them because they have white or ivory Then I got high heels by Pour La Victoire from Zappos to put on for pics and when he took off my garter. BTW, i loooove Pour La Victoire because most of their bridal shoes have blue heels for your something blue and already have " I DO" under the arch in rhinestones :-) http://www.zappos.com/brand/2835 I lost a bridesmaid FIVE DAYS before because of this. I would reassure them that this is very true for BORDER towns, but not so for riviera maya areas.
  6. Here is my planning thread: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/thread/65917/lisa-dso-s-royal-pdc-planning-thread-pics-a-go-go/50#post_1522870 Review is on the main page here for The Royal, and here are some teaser pics (I think i get my pro pics on sunday): http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=95175&id=1147850546&l=3e255af859
  7. Hello! I used conncall: http://www.etsy.com/shop/conncall?section_id=7409194 She was very sweet and quick to make adjustments. We then took the sign to Office Depot to be printed and bought a 18" x 24" frame on sale at Michael's.
  8. Oh Jozee, In lieu of first dance, we did a generational dance where the dj peels off married couples by years married. It was nice because my parents were the last standing at 52 years of marriage and the dj had them give us advice at the end.
  9. JoZee84, We only did the cake cutting because it HAD to be cut ;-), but we did not do any of the other traditional stuff because DH said he didn't want to take away from our real first dance. I thought that was a great point, so I went with it. We did play some video of the ceremony ( I used the free editor from Windows Live Movie Maker to shorten it)...people seemed to like it since most weren't at the wedding. ChicagoBride, I noticed a pic at my reception where there was a hurricane candle, but it was unlit. For our romantic beach dinner, however, they used those little battery operated flameless tealights, so maybe it is worth requesting of your WC if you are having an outside reception (wind).
  10. Here are a few pics from my AHR a couple of weeks ago. It was at the Dallas World Aquarium and we had 3 levels of the Rainforest which was amazing! Guests started at the top floor with a bar, monkeys, a sloth, crocodile, birds. They made their way down past otters, bats, snakes, spiders (it's cooler than it sounds lol). Then cocktail reception was in a room with floor to ceiling tank of manatees, fish, turtles. Then they opened up the main room which also had a smaller tank and this was where the reception/dancing was held. It was a great time! We had a 140 people comprised of family, friends, and both DH and my co-workers. I was (at first) against seating assignments, but decided that controlled chaos was better. It ended up being a great decision because we were able to put our work teams together at like tables where they actually knew other people. I wore my wedding dress through the cocktail reception, and then changed before they announced us in for the dinner reception. Cocktail hour in Tank Room I ordered the seating chart on Etsy: I also ordered the table number luminaries on Etsy, although you can't tell they are lit up because of the camera flash. The center centerpiece also had submersible floralytes at the bottom that changed 8 different colors (from amazon). I also ordered the cylinder vases and floating candles from amazon

  12. I believe children are allowed at the Royal ONLY if it's a private reception. This was the case for me. However, the staff was very quick to tell my SIL that her daughter "couldn't do that" when she started screaming/crying during cocktail reception lol. They had to take her away for awhile. Good idea, i did this too. The centerpieces are sooo pretty I booked my on the beach in front of the Gazebo because it was the most private. We still had people walking by and talking pics of me or the reception, but I imagine it would be 10x worse near the pier with all of the people loading/unloading from the cruises They sell TONS of maracas on 5th ave (walking distance), so I'd recommend making the tags/ribbon at home and then just buying them there to save money and luggage space :-)
  13. I used a dj, but did have the sound system for parts of the ceremony and our exit (chris brown "forever") and it sounded perfect. It was very clear on our video too. Yeah, they made us do that too for some reason.
  14. For most people, the dress was ready within 24 hours, but mine took 2 days ...I'm guessing because it was a big satin dress lol I sat my photographer with my wedding party and they had a lot of fun with him I debated on this as well and decided to message Matt of Del Sol about his recommendations. This actually prompted him to right a big review on why you should not have guests seated inside. in a nutshell, if everyone is inside the gazebo and the photographer is in there trying to take pics of bride and groom, everything outside the gazebo gets washed out. You see nothing but white background, no ocean whatsoever. I had my guests on the outside with just the officiant and wedding party on the edge here is an example: Fernando was still doing my makeup, so my MOH ran to the wedding center where Maya Diseno was waiting with the flowers. She brought the bouquets back to my room, but Zulma (my WC) kept the centerpieces and bouts for the guys. OMG I just had it this past Saturday and it was amazing! I'll have to post a link with pics as soon as I get them back from various people. If it is any indication, I am still recovering and am not at work today lol
  15. Did anyone else do a rehearsal dinner at La Tortuga/El Bistro rooftop (besides me and Jess)? We had such a blast there and the manager and waiters were so fun!
