  1. My engagement ring and wedding ring were purchased as a set, so they fit together beautifully. However, looking at them you wouldn't know that - they could totally be worn separately. The band has a little bevel edge that slips into a groove on the e-ring so they stay together and don't move around (band is channel-set diamonds, so it keeps them upright) and they sit tightly together so you don't have that gap you talk about. The ring designer is a friend of my fiance, so he told him upfront that was a concern of mine.
  2. Hey ladies, congrats to everyone here! It looks like we've finally set a date & location - Dreams Punta Cana, May 28, 2010! I'm so excited! Now I just need to work on getting my scanner up & running so I can email Deyanira all the deposit info :/

  4. I know, the resort looks amazing! I'm so sad we just can't afford it. As I know so far, none of my guests will stay 7 nights- they'll all stay 4-5 nights Good luck with your planning, and please keep us updated on your experience with the NH!
  5. I've been stressing a bit about the STD/Invite timeline & process too. Our wedding is May 28, 2010, and we've just now decided on that date (literally, like yesterday). I'm fairly positive we've settled on the resort too (we just need to put down the deposit to secure it), so I'm pretty much ready to move forward. I was thinking originally of this timeline: 1) send STD's by mid/end of Sept (possibly boarding pass style) with pages of info, request to RSVP preliminarily, and link to wedding website 2) send formal invites (possibly passport style) in Feb with info again and formal RSVP 3) Follow-up with email/phone reminders as necessary closer to the date But then I was thinking of how much I'll be paying in production/shipping (even DIY costs $!) coupled with all this redundant info, and now I'm starting to wonder if it would just make sense to do this instead: 1) skip the STD altogether 2) send NOW an email and postcard with a simple "STD for a wedding - names/date/hotel name/website link" (website to have all info to date, and updated constantly) 3) send in Oct formal invites with all the info & RSVP cards (possibly an RSVP date of March 1?) 4) Follow up email/phone as necessary as date gets closer
  6. Very cool! And if you *really* wanted to personalie them, you could always iron on some sort of patch, or even just get them embroidered. But honestly, I think they're cool enough as-is!

  8. Congrats & welcome, fellow Jersey Girl!
  9. I am a meeting & event planner by profession, so I am loving the simplicity of a DW. I just can't be bothered with all these minute details, especially when from experience I see just how little it all matters. There will be some things I will DIY here and bring with me just to personalize it a little, but I'm not killing myself. I think the worst part of this whole process is picking the date and resort. In so many instances it's comparing apples to oranges to lemons... a side by side comparison just makes it that much harder - I like the rooms of this one, the pool at the other, the beach at the other, the dinner package at the other, the ceremony package at the other, etc... makes me want to scream!
  10. Is it just me or does the NH's wedding package seem really expensive compared to other resorts in PC? Here's what I just received: Traditional Wedding Package: US $995.00 (judge fees not incl) Complimentary when booking 15 rooms for a minimum of 7 nights in any room category. - Wedding planning and assistance by our Wedding Coordinator - Choice of location for the wedding ceremony (Beach, Center Courtyard, Tropical Garden or Indoors) - Wedding music selection during ceremony (from CD selection) - Deluxe chairs for Bride and Groom - Elegantly covered chairs for guests - Bouquet for Bride and boutonniere for Groom (Tropical Flowers) - Wedding cake for 10 guests - Toast with sparkling wine for 10 guests - Welcome fruit platter in room for Bride and Groom upon arrival - Services of Civil Judge - Simultaneous translation of ceremony - Marriage Certificate delivered by UPS (please expect a processing time of up to 3 months from signing) - One floral centerpiece for ceremonial table PLUS -any groups of more than 25 people require a private event; there is a surcharge for private events US$1,999 We're expecting around 35 people, who will most likely stay around 4-5 nights. So there's no way we can get this package for free. We're also doing a symbolic ceremony, so at least we wouldn't have to pay judge fees. But still - they seem so much more expensive than Dreams, Iberostar, Riu... or am I missing something? I really like this hotel, but I'm so sad to see these prices. I think I may have to toss it out of the running
  11. I'm confused about this as well. I've held off sending STD's until we secured a date & resort. I want to create a website to include on the STD too, where people can RSVP so we know how many people we can hope to receive. But, Once I do all that, what really is the point to send a formal invite? You're just reiterating the same info they've been receiving... or, should we not do STD's and just do formal invites right away (even though they'll be 9mos prior)? I just hate the idea of bombarding folks with too much, and I hate to spend unnecessary money too

    Hi!

Hello everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself - Name's Susan, and my fiance Roberto and I are planning on getting married next May 2010 in Punta Cana. We're not 100% set on a date, though we're hoping for May 28th so it'll be over the Memorial Day holiday. We're still looking into resorts, and hopefully will make a decision soon!
