  1. You girls have me laughing out loud tonight.... As for pregnancy plans, we want to start trying right away, also (like when we're still in Mexico). FI will be 34 in a couple of weeks, and I'll be 33 in July, so we feel like we can't really wait (not that we want to wait). I am a twin and my FI's younger brother and sister are twins, so the chances are decent that we'd wind up having twins. Wedding day is 5 weeks from tomorrow -- yippee!
  2. Tricia -- love your rings! They are very similar to mine. Went and ordered my wedding band today, the matching one to my e-ring. It should be here in 3 weeks. One more thing off my list! Regarding music, I think we'll just have whatever the resort offers for recorded music; I can't see paying the whopping fees they charge for live musicians for such a short ceremony. We are renting out the disco at the resort after the dinner reception so we can do some dancing, and the DJ will be able to play our music, so that will be when we can have what we really want. I just assumed that when your FI puts your wedding band on, it just goes on top of the e-ring, then you switch it later. Your engagement ring symbolizes one thing, the wedding band symbolizes something different, but there isn't any need to remove your engagement ring, ya know? I totally hear you about the wedding nightmares! I had one the other night, and while I don't remember all of it, I do remember looking at the clock in my dream and realizing I had barely any time to get my hair and makeup done! Resting my weary legs after some cross-country skiing this weekend....
  3. Brooke -- beautiful ceremony! It definitely got me all teary! I've been thinking about when to book my hair cut/colouring and mani/pedi; I'll likely do my hair 2 weeks before my actual wedding day, so the first week of Feb. I'm thinking about getting my mani/pedi the day before we leave to help me relax, but I could also see myself getting distracted with thoughts of "do I have everything packed?" so it might not be so relaxing. I want to definitely get my mani done before I leave, because I'm not sure if I trust getting it done at the salon at the resort. But, I'd want to get my mani done right before I leave, since our wedding day is toward the end of our stay... I think FI and I have decided to go with the wedding band that matches my e-ring, even though it's more than we wanted to pay. FI has said several times "I want you to have a nice ring". We can afford it, even though we're also trying to save up for other purchases in the near future... Gotta go take my Christmas tree down. I'm way behind the rest of you girls. Happy Saturday!

I bought a pair of really cute dressy flip-flops with a 2-inch wedge heel. I like them because the wedge is easier to walk in than regular heels, plus the style suits a destination wedding. I got them from Best Bridal Prices online; its the Saugus "Twilight" shoe, $38 USD. 7. Hard to pick a favourite thing about my FI, but... I love how he can make me smile, even when I'm really worked up and stressed. He just finds a way, every time. Oh, and he does this pouty lip thing that I'm a sucker for...totally him and beyond cute...

He is going to get a green card once we get married. After we booked my fiance talked to an immigration lawyer and found out that we can't get married outside of the states if he wants a green card (looks like a scam or something) AND once we apply for a marriage license he can't LEAVE the states for 6-9 months (some family emergency/event exceptions you have to apply for). So like I said, we're 47 days out from our wedding and i'm just now finding out we have no options for a ceremony at the resort (Breezes Runaway Bay). I'm calling the wedding coordinator in the morning to talk to her. I don't care if they pull a waiter off duty and tell him to read the script I wrote. We have 30 other people going down there and something needs to be worked out! Even if they still let us use the WC, chairs, and get the free cake (which is all we were getting out of the deal anyway) - or heck, I don't even need the WC! So this is our fault for not checking into green card requirements BEFORE making wedding plans. I saw alot of resorts offering symbolic ceremonies and I assumed this was something all resorts offered (seems silly not to). But apparently this isn't the case in Jamaica, not just BRB. I just wanted to warn other international couples so they can be checking into things themselves and avoiding this conflict right before their wedding. I'm so panicked right now. I totally sympathize with you. I am an American bride marrying a Canadian, so I understand all the crap regarding immigration. I'm legally in Canada under a work visa, and I've applied for permanent resident status in Canada with my fiance/common-law partner as my sponsor. We decided to do the legal stuff for the marriage in Canada. We didn't want the hassle of doing a legal ceremony in Mexico, so we're having a "vow renewal" (symbolic) there. Our parents were very understanding about this. As for the immigration lawyer, I would be careful with the information they give you. In my experience, there is a lot of misinformation out there about immigration procedures. If you're able to talk to someone directly from U.S. Immigration, you're more likely to get accurate info. Also, I agree with the member who posted that it seems more likely you can't leave the country once you apply for a green card, NOT a marriage license. The marriage license would be a state-issued document. Green cards are federal documents, and federal law usually supercedes state law. I would double-check with someone reliable. By the way, I was advised by Citizenship and Immigration Canada against leaving Canada while my application was in process, but their reasoning was that if I committed a crime while outside of Canada, my application would be thrown out and I could be refused re-entry to Canada... I really hope everything works out for you. You've find the guy you're meant to be with, and I'm sure in the end, all will be well!

A custom wedding ring would be nice, but I don't think it would be done in time for our wedding (I've been told multiple times that custom jobs usually take 6 weeks, and we leave in 5). We got a deal on the engagement ring, since it was sold to us by a friend of a friend, and they're willing to do a deal on the wedding ring, but it's still more than I was hoping to pay. Sigh... By "my dress" of course I mean my wedding dress, in case that wasn't obvious. Just had my first fitting tonight and I grinned like an idiot when I tried it on tonight. Love it!

  11. Our ceremony is at 11 a.m.; it was the only time left on the day we wanted to get married. Our reception is at 6:30 p.m., then we're doing dancing in the resort disco after that. We plan on doing our pictures right after the ceremony, then just letting everyone do their own thing until the reception. My biggest worry is having enough time in the morning to get everyone's hair and makeup done and get dressed. My biggest stress right now (aside from getting to my dress fitting on time tonight!) is my wedding ring. The one that matches my engagement ring turned out to be a lot pricier than I was originally told. Not sure what I'm gonna do, and we leave in 5 weeks!
  12. Our wedding ceremony is at 11 a.m., with a reception at 6:30. We're planning on having our pictures taken right after the ceremony, then letting the guests do whatever they want until the reception. I'm kind of looking forward to being able to relax in between and not having to wear my dress for hours on end in the hot weather. I know my FI is glad he can get out of his wedding outfit for awhile!

Make sure you find that out. I am bringing Claudia's team: Citlalli (photo) + her assistant + Gerardo (video) for the whole day so that is $125x3. Lucky me! Thanks for clarifying, EmenGeeRoxx. I'm only having Claudia for half a day, thus the $65 fee.

  15. The countdown is on 'til everyone's big day! I feel like I'm getting things checked off my list, too. FH and I went to order our wedding bands yesterday, groomsmen's attire is all set, and I go on Thursday for my first dress fitting. The next task is deciding on a day to do our legal stuff... Happy New Year, girls!
  16. I had the same issue, only even more complicated as 2 people in our wedding party live in the States, and the rest in various places in Alberta. I wound up going with bridesmaid dresses from Sears -- my 2 BM in Alberta ordered their own, and I ordered one for my MOH in the States, then shipped it to her. For the guys, my future husband went shopping with his best man, picked out shirts and pants he liked, then bought everything himself, armed with the guys' shirt and pant sizes. He found the shirts at The Bay and khakis at Sears. His best man lives in the States, but luckily he was up in Edmonton for the holidays and could try on his shirt and pants to ensure a correct fit. My MOH had to guess on her dress size from Sears, but we used the measurement guide on their website and she should need minimal alterations, if at all. I debated the wedding party attire for so long, and I'm happy we finally have found outfits that seem to work. Best of luck!
  17. Merry Christmas, everyone. Looking forward to 2010 and hearing about everyone's wedding! Cheers!
  18. I'm a registered dietitian, working in pediatrics. Lots of health care workers posting to this thread!
  19. I don't have a picture right now of my dress that I can access, but here is the url address to the website page with the dress. It's an Exclusive by Allure, style 2174. I loved the dress because it's chiffon, so very "flowy", and the style works well with my figure. I'm wearing silver wedge sandals with the dress. 20. I see there are a few Alberta brides on here -- where is everyone from? I've finally thawed out my fingers long enough to do some typing on BDW! Today's -17 weather seems almost balmy... A little about myself so you girls don't feel like you're chatting with a perfect stranger: I got engaged in February of this year in Australia while my FI and I were on vacation. Our wedding is at the Occidental Grand Xcaret near Playa del Carmen on Feb. 16. We're actually doing a symbolic ceremony, as we wanted to get all the legal stuff out of the way here in Canada (much less stressful). Right now, it looks like we'll have around 30 guests. We're keeping everything pretty low-key; that's that way we prefer it. I'll have to figure out how to post a pic of my dress. It's very beach-appropriate, I think; something I envisioned from the get-go. Great to be part of this group!

As far as I know the resort doesn't have anything to do with the park, so you would need to book the wedding seperately from the resort. I will try to dig up the link to the pics. It is SO beautiful. Also, I made it clear to Marialma originally that we wanted to be married on the beach and not in the gazebo. If they have told you guys that this is not possible then I will have to confirm with her and my TA. Hmm... We actually looked into having our ceremony at the Eco Park; however, it was just too expensive for us. I'm O.K. with having our ceremony in the gazebo; the location is very nice and pictures I've seen of other weddings there look beautiful. I'm not sure if we were told this was the only location because it actually IS the only location they have, or because any other potential location is being used by another wedding group that day. More power to you if you were able to swing a beach wedding there! Best of luck with your planning!

I would be very surprised (and a bit upset) if others were told something different...
  23. Hi, ladies -- another February bride here. I can feel the excitement, since we're all getting close to our wedding dates!
  24. Wow, what an amazing story! You have a truly wonderful and thoughtful husband-to-be. Congrats!
